Francis Durbridge is one of the best
loved thriller writers that has ever put
pen to paper. The Times said of him
"A virtuoso of the red herring and
unexpected plot twist, he could turn a
victim into a villain (and back again) in
less time than it took an old wireless
to warm up. As cliffhanger piled upon
cliffhanger, audiences were riveted,
night after night for weeks."
His first book Send For Paul Temple, invented the character
who was to become a household name, picked up by the BBC
and serialised on the radio from 1938. The iconic detective
enjoyed years of international success, placing Durbridge as a
leading writer of his day.
In the 1940s Durbridge started writing for television.
He enjoyed great success and is credited with the creation of
the television thriller serial. Among his best known work was
A Game Of Murder, Bat Out Of Hell and The Doll. From 1970
he returned to writing for the theatre. His seventh play The
Small Hours was written in 1991 and contains all the elements
of a great Durbridge thriller.

Since its premiere in 1974 Confusions has
become one of the most popular and
studied plays of the last 40 years.
From a devoted and isolated mother, to her
unfaithful travelling salesman husband,
through a solicitous waiter to well-heeled
diners and an utterly shambolic garden fete,
human frailty is laid bare as one hilarious
situation after another unfolds. Each of the
plays connects to the next through one of
its characters until the final one is reached
when four people sit alone on park benches.
From high farce to poignant observation;
the laughs, however dark, keep coming.

sorts of old rivalries and resentments.
Suddenly the couple, in search of peace,

BE SWEPT AWAY WITH THIS EPIC WARTIME ROMANCE
Set in 1942 against a backdrop of heartache and quiet bravery, Flare
Path tells the story of former actress Patricia, the wife of RAF pilot
Teddy, as their marriage is tested to the limits by the surprise arrival
of Patricia’s ex-lover and Hollywood idol Peter Kyle. An unexpected
and dangerous mission over Germany puts Patricia at the centre of
an emotional conflict as unpredictable as the war in the skies.
Combining highly charged drama with a truly authentic taste of the
fear, camaraderie and passion experienced by the men and women
who fought to save their country their families and each other.
With heart tugging, human emotion, Flare Path opens an
unforgettable window into a pivotal moment in our history.
This major revival comes from the producers behind the hit touring
production of Birdsong and stars Graham Seed (The Archers/Yes
Prime Minister) Charlie G Hawkins (EastEnders/Birdsong) Lynden
Edwards (A Little Night Music/Les Miserables) and Hedydd Dyan
(The Oresteia/A Midsummer Night's Dream).

Shadowlands is the stunning drama written by William Nicholson
that poses classic questions about religion, pain and love, through
childhood innocence through the beautiful wonder of lateflowering love. This West End and Broadway hit is the love story

of love in the abstract finally confronts its direct presence.
