Join CANHR’s Lawyer Referral Service About the LRS California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of California's long term care consumers through direct advocacy, community education, public policy and litigation. CANHR's Lawyer Referral Service, certified by the State Bar of California since 1985, is the only statewide Lawyer Referral Service specifically focused on serving California's long-term care consumers and their families. Become a member of CANHR's LRS today! We are dedicated to serving elders and persons with disabilities in need, and we are interested in recruiting attorneys who share this goal. CANHR LRS Panel Membership entitles you to technical assistance and support from CANHR's highly qualified staff and other panel attorneys. It also places you in one of the most knowledgeable groups of Elder Law attorneys in California. The CANHR Listserve Membership in a CANHR LRS panel entitles you to automatic enrollment in CANHR's Estate Planning or Elder Abuse email listserv, which will enable you to post questions and receive feedback on complex cases and exchange information, documents, ideas and experiences with other panel member attorneys who advocate for long term care consumers. PLACE PHOTO HERE, OTHERWISE DELETE BOX Panel Membership Attorney Qualifications All of CANHR’s panel attorneys are required to complete continuing education requirements to stay up-to-date with changes in California’s Medi-Cal, Probate and elder abuse statues. In addition, all approved panel members are required to commit to accept a minimum of two pro-bono and two reduced fee cases per year. CANHR’s Lawyer Referral Service maintains compliance with the California Business and Professions Code and the State Bar’s Rules of Operation. APPLICATIONS A separate application must be submitted for each panel the attorney wishes to join along with a copy of the attorney’s most recent insurance policy face sheet. An application fee of $30 is required for each panel i.e. Estate Planning Panel and/or Elder Abuse Panel. Once the completed documents are received, the application is submitted to CANHR’s LRS Advisory Committee for approval. CANHR has the client call the attorney directly to set up and appointment. CLIENT FEES AND COSTS Attorneys must fully discuss their fees and costs with the client before the initial consultation. LIABILITY INSURANCE All panel members must be continuously covered by a policy of errors and omissions insurance of at least $100,000 for a single occurrence & $300,000 aggregate per year. A copy of proof of coverage is required each year to retain panel membership. You can also contact the LRS for information on insurance coverage for only the CANHR LRS. PROHIBITION ON SALE OF ANNUITIES Member attorneys must agree as a condition of accepting referrals not to engage in the sale of annuities, financial products, or insurance products.
