KVH TracVision Land-‐mobile update April 2015 Index Index ...................................................................................................................... 1 Background ............................................................................................................ 1 Updating R-‐series: R4sl/R4/R5sl/R5 & L3/S3 .......................................................... 2 All: ............................................................................................................................................................................. 2 Astra2S is satellite A ......................................................................................................................................... 2 Astra2S is satellite B ......................................................................................................................................... 3 Astra2S is satellite C .......................................................................................................................................... 4 Updating TracVision RV1 ........................................................................................ 5 Validation: ............................................................................................................. 6 Workarounds ......................................................................................................... 7 Static models: R4sl / R4 / S3 ......................................................................................................................... 7 In-‐motion models: R5sl / R5 / L3 ............................................................................................................... 7 SKY Workarounds .............................................................................................................................................. 7 Sky (Standard definition) receivers ............................................................................................................ 7 Sky HD receivers .................................................................................................................................................. 8 Background The satellite operators have been making a number of changes to the broadcast settings of Astra 2 (28.2E) as part of the on-‐going satellite renewal process which will conclude with the Astra 2G commencing operation in the coming weeks. All TracVision products tracking “Astra 2S” have been affected by this change; it prevents the antenna from identifying the satellite signal as the correct satellite on 2 of the 4 operational settings (both high-‐band settings). The update process is straight forward; R-‐series (R4sl/R4/R5sl/R5) plus older L3/S3 models requiring PC connection to the serial port changing the FEC coding in both the VH/HH transponders in the TracVision. The latest RV1 is update via the KVH TracVision App. Updating R-‐series: R4sl/R4/R5sl/R5 & L3/S3 All: Connect PC via serial lead to switch panel. Use terminal programme such as Hyperterminal / TerminalLite at 9600-‐8-‐n-‐1-‐n First confirm the current configuration: Sky & Freesat Installations will be UK configuration Power TracVision on and watch data on screen, once searching for satellite type: HALT <ENTER>
SATINSTALL <ENTER>
It will respond with which satellites are installed, use the below commands to change
the necessary settings based upon the configuration:
Example responses:
>satconfig,astra2s,none = Astra 2 is Sat A (UK configuration)
>satconfig,astra2s,hotbird = Astra 2 is Sat A
>satconfig,astra1,hotbird,astra2s = Astra 2 is Sat C (Trisat configuration)
>satconfig,astra2n,astra2s = Astra 2 is Sat B
ONLY FOLLOW THE UPDATE PROCESS FOR THE CORRECT
CONFIGURATION, if in doubt please contact us first.

ZAP <ENTER> Proceed to VALIDATION Updating TracVision RV1 The update for the RV1 is available as an automated file via the KVH TracVision App (Android & iOS) Go to Google Play / Apple App store and download the App for your device if you don’t already have it. 1. Open the App before you connect to the TracVision (TV-‐Hub) a. Click the bottom left option to check for updates b. Select RV1 and download the firmware file. c. Also download the latest satellite Library file (8.29 includes the Astra 28E April 2015 update). d. Close the App once both files are downloaded to the device. 2. Connect your device to RV1 a. When you are in the vehicle and TracVision has booted up & searching, use your Wi-‐Fi settings to select the “TV-‐hub XXXXXXXX” access point, join it. 3. Now open the App 4. Click the connect button in the middle of the welcome window a. A commissioned system will take you directly to the “Home” page with the image of the vehicle, if this is not the case then press the “exit” button in the commissioning Wizard if you don’t wish to complete it at this stage. 5. Click the “Updates” menu at the top of the screen (Portrait mode on small screen devices – click the menu boxes top right to locate the “updates”) a. This page will show current versions of both library & firmware files, and give you the choice to install them – Version 1030 is current. b. Note: the firmware file can take upto 30mins to install and may reboot the hub a number of times during the process – the file is copied to the TV-‐Hub first and it controls the update of other system components. You will lose the Wi-‐Fi connection during the update and this is normal – if you are in range of another hotspot that your device “knows” then it will reconnect to this, so remember to reconnect to TV-‐hub XXXXXXXX prior to opening the App to check status. c. Power system down, wait for 30sec and power back up and check to see if update has indeed completed; jumping from an early version e.g. 1010-‐1030 will mean all components will be flashed and you may see a message after reboot that there are still files to be updated, allow this to complete, reboot once again and repeat the process until the message no longer appears and the correct versions are showing in status page. d. Check the Lat/Long and alter in the “settings” page if significantly out (>5deg either way from 52N, 001W) 6. Update the Satellite Library file once firmware is complete (sub 1-‐min update). 7. Power cycle 1 last time and the process is complete, continue to Validation. Validation: Following the update process confirm correct operation: Power down the antenna for 30sec, then power up and allow time to locate satellite (assuming line of sight to satellite). Then use the satellite receiver to check the following channels for 1-‐2mins on each: BBC1 London BBC2 England Sky News QVC Check the PC, each time you change channel the datafile will show the band/polarisation being tracked: Change to Sky News and it respond; >RF: S,A,V,H,V – indicating Sat A, Vertical, High, Valid Provided antenna remains locked for all Band/Pol combinations invoked by the channels above the system update is complete. Workarounds These are possible workarounds until PC update is possible: Static models: R4sl / R4 / S3 For Free-‐to-‐air and Freesat boxes; switch the receiver on and select BBC1 Switch on TracVision and wait for it to lock on. Once locked and receiving BBC1, switch off TracVision. You can continue to watch any Astra2 channels without issue until the vehicle is moved. For Sky boxes see SKY Workarounds below: In-‐motion models: R5sl / R5 / L3 For Free-‐to-‐air and Freesat boxes; switch the receiver on and select BBC1 Switch on TracVision and wait for it to lock on. Once locked and receiving BBC1, you can continue to watch the majority of “Freesat” terrestrial channels, however, selecting high-‐band channels e.g. Sky News / CNN / QVC will cause tracking to be lost. For Sky boxes see SKY Workarounds below: SKY Workarounds Sky (Standard definition) receivers The default transponder is a VH transmission which means that while the box is looking for updating the EPG etc it will be looking for this and prevent TracVision from locking on, the following will force the Skybox output to low-‐band which will enable the TracVision to lock: Press SERVICES on the Sky remote Press 4 (SYSTEM SETUP) Press 4 (ADD CHANNELS) Configure the screen as below: Move down and click Find Channels – ignore the unable to find channels message. Switch on TracVision It should then locate Astra 2 and for static systems, turn off the TracVision and use the Sky box normally until the vehicle is moved. For in-‐motion models you will be limited to terrestrial “freesat” channels until the TracVision update is complete. Sky HD receivers The default transponder is a VH transmission which means that while the box is looking for updating the EPG etc it will be looking for this and prevent TracVision from locking on, the following will force the Skybox output to low-‐band which will enable the TracVision to lock: Press SERVICES on the Sky remote Move right/left to select the spanner (settings) Move down to highlight but not enter Picture (see pic) Press 0 Press 1 Press Select This will enter the hidden installer menu. Choose the “Default Trp” tab and then enter the settings as pictured below: Then press GREEN to save settings Switch on TracVision It should then locate Astra 2 and for static systems, turn off the TracVision and use the Sky box normally until the vehicle is moved. For in-‐motion models you will be limited to terrestrial “freesat” channels until the TracVision update is complete.
