Ever since I was a little girl I have
wanted to make things. I believe that we
all have a need to create and to make.
Create Beauty Everyday is my mantra
here at the studio because creating
beauty should be an ordinary part of our
day, an everyday kind of thing.
Rug hooking is a simple and easy way
to add beauty to your life. It is not only
the finished rug that is lovely, it is the
time you spend making it. It is a simple pleasure to sit with yourself,
take time out, and let your hands work freely. It is a simple pleasure
that adds a lot of peace and contentment to life.
I have watched women start with simple little kits and grow to bigger
patterns and designs filling their home with their own gorgeous
creations. Some have made rugs for the daughters to be married
on, others have made carpets for every grandchild’s bedroom. It is
endless what you can do with hook in hand. Some women have
started with a hot mat and made modern
looking living room carpets. While some
have even had shows of their work in
galleries after hooking only a few years,
others are content to make their
grandchild’s room their showcase.
For some it is a craft that builds
community as they meet people online or
travel to hooking events and classes near
and far. For others it is a peaceful and
quiet pursuit they carry on by themselves
or with a few neighbours. Rug hooking is
exactly what you want it to be. It can be a hobby or an art form. It
can be social or something you do on your own. You can make
beautiful artworks or sweet gifts to decorate your home. For me it is
the perfect craft, the perfect art form. In this racing age of
technology, it requires nothing more that the morning light shining
through your window and it is the perfect chance for you to slow

Each month you will be sent a pattern
on linen for $34.00, that is inspired by
what I am currently hooking, or by
one of my original designs. Imagine
receiving a new hand drawn pattern
every month in your mailbox.

stash of wool you already have on
hand and have fun!

of cloth and fold it four
times.Then take our 5.5 inch
hand cutting scissors and cut
your wool into strips for
hooking. They do not have to

Homemade Hospitality
Sanford Oatcakes
A Recipe from Mrs. Sheila Sanford
These are a studio favourite,
good old fashioned Nova
Scotia oatcakes. They are
the real thing. Great served
with maple butter, honey or
cheddar cheese. Nothing
better that these with a cup
of tea.
3 cups oats, 3 cups flour , 1
cup sugar , 1 cup butter, 1
cup shortening, 1/4 cup
water, 1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix all ingredients together,
and work into softened
butter and shortening. Roll
out to 1/4 inch thickness and
cut into circles with a glass.
Bake at 375 degrees for 15
minutes.
I started this studio in my home
selling a few supplies and my
one of a kind hooked rugs
when I was about to have my
first child. He is about to turn
twenty three this winter. Over
the years we have grown but
never so much that we don’t
have time to offer you a cup of
tea and an oatcake. The studio
is an emporium of colour,
texture , creativity and fibre art.
We specialize in rug hooking
and knitting but we’re sure
you’ll be inspired if you visit us.
