Follow us and tell your friends! Lower Division Soccer Information • Players must not wear jewelry at games. This includes earrings for recently pierced ears. Please do not allow your kids to get their ears pierced just prior to or during the soccer season. They will cry and you will get angry when we make them take their earrings out or don’t let them play! • Games for U6–U13 begin August 1. The U6, U8 and U10 season will finish by the end of September. U12 and U13 season scheduled to end September 30, weather dependent. • Teams play 1 or 2 games each week. - U12 and U13 may play league games on a Saturday in September and playoff games on weekends in late September. See Page 1 for Game Nights. - Some U8 or U10 teams may play 1 or 2 games on a Sunday afternoon in September. - Team schedules will be given to coaches at a meeting they will attend on the evening of July 8. AYSA Lower Division 2015 Birth Year Guidelines To be age eligible to play in this league, you must be born between: U6 8-1-09 to 7-31-10 No older than 5 years old on July 31, 2015 U8 8-1-07 to 7-31-09 No older than 7 years old on July 31, 2015 U10 8-1-05 to 7-31-07 No older than 9 years old on July 31, 2015 U12 8-1-03 to 7-31-05 No older than 11 years old on July 31, 2015 U13 8-1-02 to 7-31-03 No older than 12 years old on July 31, 2015 The “Boot Room” Soccer Camps Arrowhead Youth Soccer is pleased to continue our partnership with The Boot Room Soccer Camps. The Boot Room builds upon the best tradition of English Football. Striker/Keeper Camp May 16, 2015 Time: 9 a.m. - Noon Cost: $40 Ages: 9-15 years old Location: Stebner Fields, Hermantown The Striker/Keeper camp is intended for boys and girls ages 9-15 that are looking to develop and enhance attacking or goalkeeping skills. Strikers will focus on the most exciting aspects of the game, shooting, finishing, combination plays and striker movement while keepers will train to improve their shot stopping, footwork/mobility, intercepting crosses and distribution skills. Get Ready for Fall Soccer! July 20-22, 2015 Time: 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Ages: 8-12 years old Cost: $75 Location: Stebner Fields, Hermantown This camp is a great way to prepare players for their fall AYSA season. Three 2-hour evening sessions will focus on building shooting, passing, receiving and dribbling skills. This camp will help players start their season at their best! The “Boot Room” Soccer Skills Summer Camps June 8-11, 2015 Ages: 8-10 years old Time: 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. Cost: $85, includes camp T-shirt Location: Stebner Fields, Hermantown If you love the game, this is a great chance to improve your skills. Begin the week with individual skill development progressing to fun, age appropriate games. Learn the correct techniques for passing and receiving, dribbling and shooting, defending, and individual and team tactics. This is a great opportunity for players to improve their game before AYSA leagues begin in August. Ages: 11-14 years old Time: Noon - 2 p.m. Cost: $85, includes camp T-shirt Location: Stebner Fields, Hermantown Each two-hour session offers intensive work on individual technique for older youth players. Each session allows players to focus skill development on a specific part of the game. By weeks end, you will be a more complete, skilled player. This is a great way to get ready for AYSA play or high school tryouts. These camps will provide players with high-level skills training in a fun environment. The coaches are Dave Robinson and Archie Clark. Dave is a coach for the College of St. Scholastica’s men’s and women’s soccer teams. He holds a National Youth Coaching License and is a member of the ODP coaching staff for Minnesota Youth Soccer. Archie is head coach of the Cloquet Esko Carlton High School boy’s soccer team. He holds a National D Coaching License and a NSCAA advanced regional diploma. Goalkeepers will be trained by Jake Lammi, former CSS and Denfeld HS goalkeeper. Jake has coached keepers for UMD, Denfeld HS, and many local competitive soccer teams. If you are interested in refereeing this Fall, you must complete our AYSA training program. It consists of an online component, classroom instruction and an on-field training session. Students must complete all components and pass a 50-question test to become certified. On-field training dates will be arranged for registered referees. Our 2015 Classroom sessions for new referees are listed below. New referees must attend a training session on either June 28 or July 7. Completing one of those classroom trainings and the other components will qualify referees to officiate U8 and U10 games. If you would like to officiate U12 and U13 games, you will also need to attend a training session on either July 21 or July 26. Topics covered will include: Rules on use of player passes, reschedules, on field rules, rainouts and much more. There will be lots of time for questions. A representative from each Upper Division Recreational team must attend this meeting. Clyde Iron Works Restaurant, 2920 West Michigan Street, Duluth UPPER DIVISION GAME NIGHTS U12: Tuesday/Thursday U15: Monday/Wednesday U18: Tuesday/Thursday/and some Sundays Season begins May 18 and ends July 9. Playoffs will be held July 10-12 with Final Fours and Championships July 18-19. Weather cancellations could change this schedule. Concussion Training MN law now requires concussion training and certification for all youth sports coaches. Coaches that completed the training in 2013 or later are certified for three years from completion date. Coaches that have not completed the CDC course since 2013 should go to http://www.cdc.gov/concussion/HeadsUp/Training/HeadsUpConcussion.html to complete the training. Please print the certificate at the end of training as proof of completion. Spring Coaches Clinics AYSA is hosting coaching clinics designed to provide recreational and competitive coaches with the tools to run fun, efficient practices, and improve their game strategy. If you want to improve your coaching skills, these are the courses to take! All of these clinics are very appropriate for those that plan to coach in our Lower Division season. Clinics without an adequate number of participants are cancelled. Integrating the Goalkeeper into Team Training Tuesday, May 5, 2015 Transitioning From the Lower to Upper Division Tuesday, May 12, 2015 6 PM-8 PM - - Free of Charge - Instructor: Tony Englund (MYSA Staff Coach) Location: TBD 6 PM – 8 PM - - Free of Charge - Instructors: Dave Robinson, Archie Clark Location: TBD The majority of teams do not have a designated goalkeeper coach; the fact is teams are not incorporating goalkeepers into everyday training sessions. The exceptions are shooting drills and small sided games, the goalkeepers are included but is there any goalkeeper training going on? This clinic will talk about goalkeeper technique and provide ideas on how to integrate them into the warm up, and how a coach can utilize the whole team by using them to train the goalkeeper. This clinic is for coaches of all age groups. If you will be coaching a team with 11 players on the field for the first time, ask yourself the following questions. • What is a soccer formation and style of play? • What should your formation and style of play be based on? • What does depth and width mean? • How do you evaluate players and assign appropriate soccer positions? Registration is open for Gitchi Gummi’s Juniors and Lil’ Kickers Programs, held on Mondays & Wednesdays, June 15-July 22. L i l ’ K i c k e r s is designed for 4-6 year olds and costs just $65. You will get twelve one-hour sessions that focus on technical skills and introduces the players to the game in a small sided setting. Our Juniors Program is for 7-10 year old players. The fee is $90 for twelve, one hour training sessions. We’ll focus on more technical skills and small-sided, topic-specific games. Minnesota United FC is Minnesota's professional soccer team. Our league is the North American Soccer League (NASL), which was also home to Minnesota's first professional soccer team, the Minnesota Kicks. United's line-up boasts players from around the world, including Brazil, Japan, and Italy and also a strong contingent of players from Minnesota and the United States. Many on the team have experience from leagues in countries as far flung as Australia and Switzerland.
