Fiberglass Vieuxs Greater New Orleans Corvette Club September 2010 September 2010 Fiberglass Vieuxs Page 1 DYNO DAY By Robert Darcey I got up early on Saturday, July 31, 2010, for a trip to Southern Hotrod, L.L.C., on Aberdeen Drive, in Kenner. By 8:30 AM a small crowd had gathered in the street in front of the business with our cars lined up along the curb. We were all there to run our cars on the dynamometer and trash talk about who had the most horsepower. Fifteen cars were strapped to the dyno one by one. Fourteen Corvettes and one Plymouth Duster were run. There were C-4s, C-5s, C-6s and even one C-3 (which couldn’t go due to a radiator leak). While the owners sat outside in the shade we heard the incredible sounds of powerful motors running at high RPM's. In the end, we all learned just how much horsepower our cars put to the street. The top five horsepower ratings were: Buddy sampling the cuisine! No, Diet Coke does not cancel the calories in a Krispy Kream Donut! James Ford’s 2001 Red Z06 – 486.0 Charles Horton’s 2009 Velocity Yellow Z06 – 452.2 (Charlie the .2 didn’t help) Rudy Laris’ 2008 Atomic Orange C-6 Vert – 451.7 (Procharger equipped) My 2009 Cyber Grey C-6 Coupe Manual – 382.1 (gotcha Carl) Carl Schroeder’s 2008 Crystal Red C-6 Coupe Auto – 373.8 Carl’s car and mine are virtually identical except for the transmission. As you can see the Manual is good for nearly nine horsepower. Of course, I immediately called Carl to make sure he knew this! Several customer’s cars were in attendance – a supercharged Dodge Magnum (600+ HP) and a Jeep Cherokee with a body kit and 620 horsepower! We also had several visits for Kenner’s finest (police) due to the noisy exhausts of several of our friends as they left the area. It was reminiscent of a bunch of teenagers leaving the theater after watching the Gumball Rally – Zoom! Bob Darcey's 2009 Cyber Grey Coupe ready to roll! Everyone had a great time! Now, what do I need to mod to get to 400! September 2010 Fiberglass Vieuxs Page 2 PRESIDENT'S VIEWS I know everyone is eagerly waiting for some better weather and cooler temperatures to enjoy all of the upcoming events. Please go to our GNOCC website and check the calendar and make plans to attend. While you are there you may want to read the newsletter, many of our members put in a lot of hard work to present this for your pleasure. It is that time of year and at our September General Membership Meeting we will begin nominations for 2011 Officers and Board Members. Our Nominating Committee will be our Membership Director Bob Himes and his lovely wife Susan. If you would like to represent our Club please put you name in for a position. You do not have to be nominated you can simply volunteer. EXTRAVETTEGANZA Our biggest GNOCC event of the year!!! rd This meeting Sept. 3 will be the last General Membership Meeting before THE BIG Malcolm Graff EVENT! So for those of you that have not yet registered your car or not turned in a Sponsorship Award, please do so at this meeting Sept 3rd. I hope everyone is getting excited about the show, it seems to get bigger and better every year. Be sure to try and attend the pre-show Party Friday night Sept 24th at the Host Hotel, The Hampton Inn, at 7pm till 9pm or so. You can always stay there the night like many of us do and be only down the road from the show on Saturday morning. Please do not forget Patricia Touro still needs door prizes, just for an idea maybe car related items that you would want for yourself. Also Leah Wooten is looking for Auction Items, we are hoping to raise the scale with some really nice packages such as restaurant certificates, entertainment, hotel stays, gift baskets, etc. The ExtraVETTEganza is not just a car show. It is a Corvette Social Event. So whether you have a show car, street car, or daily driver please come out and support your club and Charity Metro Center for Women and Children. This is your show! So come on out. Now they have a 06 VY Convertible and is Lori's Daily Driver. AUGUST'S 50/50 WINNER Dian Richoux held the winning ticket for the August 50/50 jackpot! She is now $156.01 richer! Are we starting a new trend here? Two months in a row we had winners who had previously won already this year. Things that make you hum... Hank Williams was responsible for picking out the door prizes. He put together some really cool cleaning kits, as well as Fleur De Lis earrings and chocolate candies. September 2010 Fiberglass Vieuxs Page 5 GNOCC BOWLING EVENT By Kathy Culbertson Corvette Reporter On Sunday, August 8, the Greater New Orleans Corvette Club held its annual bowling event at Colonial Lanes in Harahan. It was a really nice day, with lots of friendship, “good” bowling, and food and drinks. As the teams got their shoes and bowling balls ready, many of us ate pizza and had soft drinks and beer, and enjoyed sharing stories with each other about our summer happenings. Some of us had pictures to share and caught up on each other’s lives. After the bowling event was over, there was a really funny award ceremony led by our industrious President and First Lady, Malcolm and Barbara Graff. Awards were given out the best bowlers, and the bowling pin was also awarded to the bowler with the lowest score. Barbara made some really funny chocolate candy in the shape of dog poopies to put in the award winners’ prize bags. It was quite entertaining when everyone took out their poops and compared them. Thank you, Barbara, for your ingenuity and humor!! It was a wonderful event, well-planned, organized, and full of good cheer and friendship. We look forward to attending the fun event again next year. September looks to be a very busy month for our club. We have events planned for every weekend in September. They are the Petroleum and Shrimp Festival in Morgan City on September 4, the Turan-Foley Corvette Display on September 11, the trip to Pensacola on September 18, and our biggest and most awesome Corvette display on September 25th …the Extravetteganza. I can’t wait to take Kat’s Toy out of the garage and have some fun with dear friends and fellow Corvette enthusiasts! I never rode in an automobile until I was 12. ~Loretta Lynn September 2010 Fiberglass Vieuxs Page 6 ANOTHER GREAT EVENT !!! By Barbara Graff Sunday August 22 at The Italian Pie, 44 GNOCC members sat around 11 tables laughing, throwing dice and yelling “BUNCO”. All it takes is to play once and you are hooked. This is by far one of the most enjoyable events on the calendar. What a way to beat the summer heat. There was pizza and drinks for everyone. Maria had lots of great gift certificates for the winners and lots of nice door prizes which Dee Kaplan so graciously purchased. We were even treated to some special deserts, rum cake by Maria Credo, brownies by Patricia Touro, cheese cake by Barbara Graff and some delicious cookies and mints by Sharon Pertuit. Thanks so much ladies for your help. Please be sure to check out the rest of the pictures on the web site. The looks on some of our faces really tells the whole story. A big “THANK YOU” to Mark and Maria Credo for putting on such a fun event. I am sure we are all looking forward to Bunco Sunday again next year. Thanks to Bob Darcey, Kathy Culbertson and Barbara Graff for telling everyone just how much all these events were! You guys are the best and I couldn't do this job without all of your input! Thanks again for everything! I do have one thing that is a bit upsetting though. Out of the 130 people who looked at the newsletter last month only one person sent me a recipe! Now that is really pathetic. Susan Himes deserves some sort of award for taking the time to share her Blueberry Yum Yum recipe! Thanks for coming to my rescue Susan. You always send in the most delicious recipes!
