SPEED ENFORCEMENT IN SOLIVITA
The HOA, Security, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office receive multiple complaints of speeding each
week from residents. The Sheriff’s Office has been asked for their assistance in speed enforcement.
Receiving a speeding ticket is not only financially costly, but can lead to much more serious results.
Here are some quick facts on speeding: A driver is six times more likely to have an accident when
traveling at 25% above the posted speed limit. Speeding reduces the amount of available time to avoid
a crash and increases the severity of a crash once it occurs. Speed is a choice over which the driver
has complete control.

ome are started by friends growing produce in a co-op setting, while others
are sponsored by local communities. Okay, let’s drop the mystery….we are
talking about our community’s newest amenity, the soon to be open Solivita
Community Garden.
Located in Freedom Park near the Starlite Ballroom, the Community Garden is
starting out with 30 raised 4’x6’ plots in a fenced and gated area. There will be two
growing seasons, with gardeners agreeing to share in the upkeep of their individual
plots and surrounding area within the Garden. The first growing season will be from
March through August, and the second season from September to February.
The Solivita Community Garden will open sometime in February 2016. Applications
for the first growing season (March through August) will be available with the
Concierge in the Administration Building beginning Monday, November 2nd. The
Garden rules and regulations are available on the SolivitaLive.com Notice Board.
All applications must be submitted no later than Thursday, December 31st. The
30 lucky gardeners will be selected by lottery and notified in January. Payment
will be due once the lottery has taken place. Members of the Garden Trustees will
be available at November and December Lifestyles Event Ticket Sales to hand out
applications and answer questions.
There will be a cost associated with the Solivita Community Garden. A charge of $50
will be collected from each gardener per growing season. At the end of the season
$25 will be refunded to the gardener upon satisfactory cleanup of the planting bed
and return of the gate key.
Applications for the second growing season (September to February) will be made
available to residents in June 2016. A wait list will not be started in advance. Notices
will be published in Reflections, the community website (SolivitaLive.com), and
Community TV Channel (Bright House 732).

Meet Luke - The Therapy Dog
Luke is a Certified Therapy Dog residing here in Solivita with his owner Joyce Colin. Luke and Joyce
moved here to Solivita from PA two years ago. While in PA, Luke spent a great deal of time with
veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan that were suffering from PTSD or traumatic brain
injuries. Luke’s volunteer work here in Florida has centered around non-verbal autistic children at
Celebration Hospital and residents at Heart of Florida Assisted Living facility in Haines City.
Luke would like to offer his cold nose and warm heart to anyone here in Solivita that would like a
visit from him. Whether you are a shut-in, or dealing with an illness or surgery, or just miss the dog
you used to have, please give Joyce a call at 863-496-5587 and she would be happy to bring Luke
to your home for some smiles and tail wagging.

Welcome back travelers! We had some exciting trips these past few
months. Some felt left out when we saw the pictures, but that’s okay
because we have many new trips planned and some trips with spots left.
So please come see our trip tables at the next meeting. It is, once again, membership

Roaring Red Hatters
Hello Solivita! The Roaring Red Hatters
were guests of the British Isles Heritage Club at a tribute
luncheon for Queen Elizabeth. She became the longest
reigning British monarch on September 9th. In addition,
we celebrated the birthdays of Rosie Zach and our
Queen, Bernice Astrin. We voted five red hats for a lovely
British themed luncheon at the Ballroom. Last month
we celebrated the birthday of two of our dearest sisters,
Sandi Dunbar and Donna Mangone. We’re visiting Ming
Court in Orlando next and we’ll let you know how it is.
Solivita Bible Study Group
After their exodus from Egypt, the Israelites were at the border of the promise land. Moses chose 12 men to spy the land
and report back to him (Numbers 13 and 14). Of the 12, 10 reported giants, unwilling to give up their land, dominated
the country. But two, Joshua and Caleb, saw a different picture. They told Moses that the land was filled with milk and honey and
with lush terrain and valleys. They remembered God’s promise and put their faith in Him and eventually took the land. We meet every
