HP Laser Jet 1160/1320 MFP Maintenance Instructions
1 Fusing Assembly – RM1- 1289
1 Transfer Roller – RM1-1471
1 Pickup Roller – RL1-0540
CAUTION: Fuser may be hot. Turn off printer, unplug it and allow it to sit for 20
to 30 minutes before performing these maintenance procedures.
Fusing Assembly Removal and Replacement
1. Remove Left Cover
a.) Open toner cartridge access door
b.) Release two tabs at the rear of the printer (callout 1) then separate the rear of the left cover
approximately 1 ½ inches away from the rear printer. NOTE: A screw driver will be needed to
release the two tabs on a Laser Jet 1160.
c.) Slide the cover toward the front of the printer to clear the inter lock tab (callout 2) and then lift
cover away from printer.

2. Remove Right Cover
a.) Open toner cartridge access
b.) Lift the back of the printer up and use a flat blade screwdriver to pry the cover away from the
tab (callout 3) at the bottom of the printer.
c.) Use a flat blade screwdriver to pry the internal releasing tabs (callout 4) at the back of the
printer. Lift and remove cover.

3. Remove Rear Cover
a.) Remove four screws (callout 5)
b.) Tilt the printer so that it rests on its front, use a small flat blade screwdriver to release the duplexpan assembly hinge (callout 6) at the power plug side of the assembly and separate the rear cover
from the printer to remove it. Release the tab (callout 7) then lift cover straight up and away form
printer.

c.)
Hint; When reinstalling rear cover, make sure the sensor flag is through the opening in rear
cover
4. Remove Fan
a.) Remove the fan cable (callout 8) form the ECU.
b.) Remove two screws (callout 9), unhook the fan clip (callout 10) and then lift fan off printer.

5. Remove Duplex Drive/Face Down Drive Gears
a.) Remove three screws (callout 11) and the carefully lift duplex drive assembly away the printer.
(NOTE: THE GEARS ON THE DUPLEX DRIVE ASSEMBLY ARE NOT ATTACHED TO THE
PLATE. CAREFULLY REMOVE GEARS AND GEAR PLATE TOGETHER TO PREVENT
THEM FROM SEPERATING.)

6. Remove Duplex Solenoid
a.) Disconnect on ribbon cable (callout 12) from the bottom of formatter.
b.) Disconnect four cables (callout 13) at the top of the formatter.
c.) Remove two screws (callout 14) from the I/O cover.
d.) Remove six screws (callout 15) from formatter plate and formatter.
e.) Lift the I/O cover, formatter plate and formatter off the printer.

7.
Removal of Fuser
a.) On the right of printer, press the two tabs on the two gears (callout 16) to release and remove gears.

b. Disconnect six connectors (callout 18) from the ECU. Remove the wire harness for the guises
(callout 19).

c.
Pull the tabs on the wire harness holders (callout 20), then slide wire harness holders towards
the center on printer and remove.

d.
Disconnect three wire connectors (callout 21).

Pull wire harness holder (callout 22) straight back to remove it, and then remove the wire
harness form guide.

f. Disconnect one connector (callout 39) and then remove the wire harness from the guide. Before you
proceed to the next step, make sure that all of the wire harnesses that you disconnected in previous
steps have been released from any wire harness guides and holders.

g. Remove three screws (callout 40) from the right rear of printer.

Remove three screws (callout 41) from the left rear of printer.

From the back, pull on the upper right side of printer to spread chassis to release fuser form
the frame.
j.
Pull the fuser out of the printer at an angle so that the delivery roller shaft clears the hole
(callout 42) in the chassis. Carefully remove the wire harness from the guide in the lower left corner of
the fuser.

To reinstall fuser reverse all steps.

Open toner access door
Remove toner cartridge
Locate the bushing on right side next to the drive gear
Squeeze the tabs on the bushing and lift up, slide to the right and remove

Tray 2 Pickup Roller Removal and Replacement
1. Removal of tray two pickup roller
a.) Remove tray two
b.) Tilt the front of the printer upward and press down of the green tab to release the duplex pan
(callout 1)

c.) Pull the tab out and then rotate tab forward to release white retaining collar and remove left
collar
d.) Follow step c.) for right retaining collar but DO NOT REMOVE. Slide the pickup roller to the
left to release right side of the pickup roller and remove.
e.) Remove two screws on the separation pad assembly. Lift the separation pad assembly straight
up to remove. Replace pad
