PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS Our Ninth annual Vette’s Doin Charleston show was held at the Citadel Mall for the fourth year in a row. You couldn’t ask for a better day, weather wise. Well, it could have been a little less windy, but that’s nit-‐picking. The club car count was down eight from last year, with twenty-‐eight club Vettes in attendance, making for our lowest club car total for Vettes Doin’ Charleston! Congratulations goes out to Charles Long for taking first place with his 1964 Convertible, Tim Hayden and his 71 Convertible in second, and Bill Morris with his 1974 Convertible rounding out the top three. 2016 NCM BASH UPDATE -‐ Kim Sheldon Once again, the Bash was a great success with attendees enjoying multiple presentations from GM representatives and others. Jackie Holst and I, attended the Ladies Garage session, had a great time, and received very nice gifts for attending. Oh yea, and we also learned something (go figure!). The new 2017 Grand Sport was the Bash focal point with the Collector’s Edition, Watkins Glen Gray with Tension Blue seats and trim and two really nice paint schemes: Admiral Blue with the traditional GS White stripe and a reverse color scheme of Arctic White with a Blue stripe. Henry Younger, CCCC member from Alabama and NCM Board Member, was seen sitting in this car. Bet that car is in his future! Also introduced, were 4 new colors for 2017: Admiral Blue, Watkins Glen Grey, Black Rose Metallic and Sterling Blue Metallic. All very nice colors and very nice additions to the paint choices we’ll have to buy. Ed Lipman was seen several times browsing around the new cars on display. (Kathy, thinking a new Z06 in one of the new colors may be in your future!) HPDE (High Performance Driving Event) took place at the Motorsports Park, which was a great success as well. Charles Younger, CCCC member from Alabama, participated in the event and achieved Instructor status! Congratulations to Charles! The MSP looks very different in the last year with the addition of the Holley Control Tower and the garages. Located in the center of the garages is the Kimberley Fast Pavilion which is where the really great picnic tables CCCC donated last year from VDC proceeds are located. I took a ride for 5 laps at the MSP on the track with Jim Painter (long time friend and Instructor at HPDE). What a great ride!!!! When you have 30-‐60 minutes I can tell you all…. about it! Kim and Bob Baker attended and took part in the touring laps at the MSP and it certainly appeared as if they were enjoying them every time they passed the observation tower on the long front straight away of the track. CCCC was recognized Friday evening at the Winners Circle dinner for their contributions to NCM and especially the picnic tables at the MSP. Plans are beginning for the 2019 Caravan (yes, 2019 will be here before we know it!) I will let you all know more at the June meeting. All in all, we had a great trip and visited with several folks from the Charlotte area, Myrtle Beach, Raleigh, Florida, Georgia and more. In attendance from our club, locally, were Bob and Kim Baker, Jackie and Jerry Holst, Ed and Kathy Lipman, and myself. Our club members from Alabama in attendance were Henry and Charles Younger. Kim Sheldon 9
MAY MEETING MINUTES – Liz Furmanek
The meeting was called to order at 3:00 pm by Ken Scott, President. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and a moment of silence held. Jim Buckley, Treasurer, gave the Treasurer’s report. Ann Armenio, VP of Membership, gave the membership report. She reported that Guenter Blaeser, a club member who resides in Germany, will be th
visiting. Any members interested in seeing Guenther can meet on May 19 from 4-‐6 pm at the Famulari’s Pizzeria in Cane Bay. John Ditmore was the winner of the membership trivia question. Ken introduced Barb Ditmore as the new VP of Competition. Barb reported that 111 cars attended VDC with an additional 28 club cars. Forty seven cars were judged by teams and judges indicated that the cars were immaculate. Liz Furmanek, Secretary, reported that the NCM had a stellar year selling merchandise at the VDC show improving sales from the last two years. Barb handed out club car VDC awards and reported on upcoming car shows. th
Kris Daugherty, VP of Social, reported that the next social event will be at Carolina Ale on May 14 following the car show at Veteran’s Victory House. Del Davids, Board Member, encouraged members to attend this show as there is an ongoing challenge between the Porsche club and CCCC as to which club brings the most cars. Prior to the car show, there will be a breakfast at Sunflower Café for those interested in attending. Kris also reported that there will be a cook-‐out at the Holy Spirit Evangelical Lutheran Church following our June business meeting. The June meeting will th
begin at 2:30pm. Members were encouraged to sign-‐up to bring food items. On June 14 , the next social event will be at Red’s Icehouse in Seabrook. Debbie Hayden, VP of Charity and Public Relations, indicated that she thought the VDC show was a big success and thanked members for stepping up. Ken thanked Liz and Jim Furmanek for their help. There was no webmaster report or NCM Ambassador’s report. New Business: Ken announced that John Ditmore had been elected to the vacant Board of Director position. It was discussed that the club trailer had been vandalized (sound system and generator taken). There was discussion about changing storage location, but determined that vandalism could occur anywhere. Del reported that he purchased locks that are very difficult to cut. The club decided to hold off on purchasing replacement sound equipment until after the police have done their investigation, as well as the next car show is not until September. A club member has offered to lend his generator in the mean time. Ken reported that, in the past, the club has withheld some monies from the VDC net proceeds for club expenses. Members expressed concern that replacing the stolen items might exceed that amount. Jim Buckley reported that there were still monies coming in and going out, but he did not feel that the club would be in financial trouble if monies were withheld. A decision is pending dependent upon further information about the vandalism. The winner of the 50/50 was Kathy Smail. Del auctioned off Corvette items from Beth Cosimano. The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 pm. Liz Furmanek 10
