20% return promised through renewable energy
investment

Pension funds could see a 20% investment return by turning to renewable
energy, according to the Oxford Sustainable Group (OSG).
Chief executive Hadley Barrett said he was targeting institutional and high net worth investors
to raise €200m (£178m) for the OSG's latest venture, the Oxford Renewable Energy Fund 9.
The fund promises investors an average return of 20% each year over a five-year period.
Barrett claims the impressive returns are achievable through the "added-value investment
philosophy" adopted by OSG.
"Our investment model is focused on adding value and does not count on passive asset
appreciation -we outperform our peers while preserving capital, even in a falling market,
creating value for our investors," he said. "I am sufficiently sure about this fund to kick it off
with €20m of my own money."
Barrett is targeting pension investments in particular, and claims he is in early negotiations
with a number of UK funds, each offering between €5m and €100m.
Pension funds, Barrett said, had become disillusioned with investing solely in banks after the
recession and were now significantly more open to the idea of investing in other ventures.
Investments will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
OSG's fund uses the money to invest in so-called green field sites, which can be used to
develop renewable energy sites - typically wind farms and biomass generators - in Romania,
Finland and Estonia. At periodic stages, geographical, political, structural and architectural
analysis, planning and development of those sites are implemented, adding value to the site's
worth, which generates the returns at the point of sale.

The Oxford Sustainable Group
has launched its ninth renewable
energy fund, seeking to raise
€200m (£173m).
The fund, OREF 9, will invest
in a range of renewable energy
projects primarily in Finland,
Romania and Estonia.
It has a duration of five years
and aims to deliver a low risk
20% per annum return to investors
after all costs and fees. It is
targeting institutional and high
net worth investors.
