“The time is NOW for
this great school, and
every gift has the
potential to make a
real difference.”
letter FROM THE Chairman
Ted Legasey
Friends of Malden Catholic:
I
am deeply grateful for another successful year made possible by our alumni, parents, and friends. In building upon our more
than eighty-year tradition of providing quality Catholic college preparatory education to young men in Malden and throughout
Greater Boston, it is a privilege to thank you for your steadfast and inspiring support and commitment. Your support is highly
important to the future of the school, and is a testament that you believe in the transformative power of a Malden Catholic education.
At Malden Catholic, we value that our students come from over 40 cities and towns. To enable this and with your support,
the school makes available over $1.3 million in financial assistance annually either in the form of scholarships or financial aid.
The funding for this assistance comes from two sources: contributions to the annual fund and the annual gala; and endowed
scholarships. The great majority of funding comes from the first source and I want you to know that your generous gifts are
being carefully stewarded to ensure a direct positive impact on our students each day. I urge you to continue, and increase if
possible, your support so that we can sustain the level of financial assistance that is so essential to our students and families.
As we look to the future of this great school, I am profoundly grateful to Joe O’Donnell, MC ‘62, and Jim Donovan for their
generous commitment to serve as the Campaign Co-Chairs of The Essential Malden Catholic Campaign. Their vision and
leadership, coupled with the support of each of you, will ensure and enhance the future of Malden Catholic. The Campaign is the
result of years of careful planning and study by the Board of Trustees and our Headmaster. In essence, it seeks to cement Malden
Catholic‘s position as a leading edge, Catholic educational institution for the 21st century. There is much to be done to solidify
that position, and there is an urgent need for each of us who loves Malden Catholic to support the Campaign. The time is NOW
for this great school, and every gift has the potential to make a real difference.
A successful Campaign will enable MC to strengthen and enhance its thriving educational programs; to modernize its
infrastructure and learning spaces to enrich academic opportunities and enhance competitive positioning; and to build strategic
operating reserves that go beyond the sources of funding that have been sufficient historically to operate the school. Such
reserves will ensure that MC can provide competitive compensation to attract and retain top-notch, professional faculty; can
provide adequate financial assistance for deserving and talented young men; and can meet outsize operating demands.
This annual report is a testimony to the vision of the Xaverian Brothers; the dedication of the Board of Trustees, faculty and
staff; and the generosity of our alumni, parents and friends. As we celebrate more than eighty years of educational excellence in
the Xaverian tradition at Malden Catholic, I am grateful for your unwavering support and boundless generosity, which has kept
tuition affordable while providing outstanding educational opportunities and rigorous top quality programs to students from
diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Going forward, I cannot overemphasize the need for you to go “more beyond” in your
support to The Essential Campaign. Together we will continue to create a lasting legacy for students, families and the community.
We absolutely could not make this work without your support.
With Much Gratitude,
Ted Legasey, MC ‘63

Dear Friends,
T
he 2012-2013 school year marked another link in a long chain of student achievement at Malden Catholic High School.
We again celebrated outstanding college placement results, with two members of the Class of 2013 attending Harvard, and
many others attending outstanding schools, including Brandeis, Georgetown, Boston College, Northeastern, and Boston
University, to name a few. Several of our 2013 graduates chose to serve our country, including one who is attending University of
North Georgia, one of only six senior military colleges in the nation; one who has enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.;
and one who is attending the United States Naval Academy. We take great pride in the success of our graduates. The Class of 2013
applied to 239 colleges and universities distributed over forty states, Washington, D.C., and Canada. The achievement and promise
of these students was recognized by college scholarships with a four-year value of more than $19 million. They will be tremendous
lifelong learners who will make a positive difference in our world.
Certainly, academic success is always paramount for a college preparatory school, but since its inception more than eighty years
ago, Malden Catholic has been about guiding in the formation of the character and spirituality of these young men. At no time is
this more evident to me than in the hours after school. On Crystal Street at 5 or 6 p.m. one can find young men who spend their
day honing their scholastic skills in the academic arena, taking part in spending their afternoons or evenings on the field, in the
gym, engaged in clubs, or contributing to our Campus Ministry. Students with this level of drive and dedication thrive at Malden
Catholic, where their innate potential is discovered and cultivated.
Malden Catholic teachers have a passion for teaching and form eager adolescents into young men with leadership qualities built
on a foundation of rigorous studies, athletics, extracurricular and Christian values. They seek out and adopt the latest techniques
in education, seriously pursuing professional development to the advantage of our students. This past spring, our faculty invested
many hours in technology training sessions aimed at helping them fully utilize iPad technology in their classrooms. As we phase
in iPads this fall with the freshman class, Malden Catholic teachers will usher in a new paradigm of teaching and learning – one
that is more fluid, more responsive, more individual – and definitely more accessible to today’s teenage boys.
Malden Catholic today is true to its roots on Highland Avenue. Formation of the whole boy, Catholic values, academic excellence
– these are our standards, and they resonate with local parents, as our freshman enrollment shows. With 160 young men
entering the Class of 2017, we have met our goal and are proud of our strong enrollment. To remain strong in a competitive
market, we need not only to be true to our heritage, but also to recognize and meet the promise of what Malden Catholic can
become. Technology is part of that, but we have more work ahead and will need your support. I am grateful for all that you have
done in partnering with us and know I can count on your continued participation, ensuring Malden Catholic a brilliant future.
Sincerely,
Edward C. Tyrrell
Headmaster

Student profile
Patrick Allen
T
he story of Patrick Allen ’13 is a story of
Malden Catholic tradition and excellence that
embodies the motto of “plus ultra.” Patrick, a
Wilmington resident, is one of four brothers to attend
Malden Catholic. He joins Stephen ’08, Kevin ‘04 and
Daniel ’01 as an alumnus. In addition, Patrick’s uncle
attended Malden Catholic – Robert Ryan ’82.
“When you look for a high school, you want to look
for a place where you can develop all your skills and
talents and abilities,” explained Patrick. “Malden
Catholic gives you the best opportunity to do that.”
At Malden Catholic, Patrick participated in multiple
activities while maintaining honor roll status as
an SFX Scholar. His involvement was recognized
with numerous awards, including the Campus
Ministry Compassion Award, the Lancers-in-Action
Leadership Award, and awards for Quiz Bowl and
Spanish Club. He earned Gold Medals in the National
Spanish exam. He was selected as a James Otis
Scholar and invited to attend a lecture series at the
Massachusetts State House. Patrick was among several
Malden Catholic students selected to represent our
school at the annual XBSS conference. He also served
as President of National Honor Society and Secretary
of Student Council. Patrick was also active on the
field, playing both baseball and football.
Patrick’s many achievements and exemplary service
received high recognition this year. He was named a
National Merit Semi-Finalist, placing him in the top
2 percent nationally on the Preliminary SAT (PSAT).
He was recognized with the President’s Volunteer
Service Award, given annually to Americans of all
ages who volunteer significant amounts of their
time to serve their communities and country. The
award was presented through the Prudential Spirit of
Community Awards Program on behalf of President
Barack Obama. Patrick, along with classmate Nicholas
Holmes, was also awarded the Cardinal Medeiros
Scholarship to Boston University, where he now
is pursuing his bachelor’s degree. This four-year
scholarship recognizes his character and leadership.
Patrick believes he will maintain his connections to
Malden Catholic, even after college and beyond. “I
definitely think the bonds I formed at Malden Catholic
will go far beyond the walls of 99 Crystal Street. I will
always be a loyal Malden Catholic supporter.”
Malden Catholic students like
Patrick benefit from a challenging
curriculum, dedicated faculty and
opportunities in clubs and athletics
to expand and build their potential.
Equally necessary for these young
men is a facility that supports 21st
century education. Please read
the center spread in this annual
report to learn about The Essential
Malden Catholic Campaign and
how you can help Malden Catholic
thrive in the years ahead.

Saint francis

W
e are very grateful for the generosity and commitment of the
members of the Saint Francis Xavier Society, Malden Catholic’s
leadership giving circle. The SFX Society began in 1994 as a way for
alumni and friends to promote and celebrate annual leadership gifts of $1,000
or more. It started with just four members who contributed a total of $8,250.
Today the SFX Society has over 200 members who contributed $1.2M in fiscal
year 2012. These dollars accounted for 75% of the philanthropic dollars raised at
MC last year, served as an essential source of funding, and helped offset many
operational costs.
Leadership gifts have a powerful impact on the future of Malden Catholic. These
dollars help to ensure that a Malden Catholic education will continue to be offered
to families in our communities for generations to come. Donors who join the
SFX Society and those who renew their membership each year make a powerful
and lasting statement about investing in the value of the MC experience and in
the preservation of Malden Catholic education. For more information contact

Making a direct and lasting impact
Mason Tenaglia
‘74 and family
Mason, Laurie, Belle and Max Tenaglia
M
ason Tenaglia ’74 is Founder
and Managing Director
of The Amundsen Group,
Inc., a management consulting firm
in Burlington, Massachusetts, that
serves the senior management of U.S.
pharmaceutical companies. He has
worked in the management consulting
industry for more than 30 years since
beginning his career at McKinsey and
Company in 1981.
Mason and his wife Laurie are among
Malden Catholic’s most ardent supporters.
They are regular and major contributors
to the Annual Fund, the Gala and have
funded several annual scholarships.
“In 1999, when I reengaged with the
administration and alumni group, I had
not connected with MC for almost 25
years,” explained Mason. “The previous
year, I had the good fortune to sell the
consulting firm that I had built up in the
1990’s to an investor group led by Michael
Milken and Larry Ellison. It was a good
time to pause and give back. And despite a
degree from the Walsh School of Foreign
Service at Georgetown and an MBA from
the University of Chicago, I believed that
my MC experience—and particularly,
the discipline learned in debate—had the
greatest impact on the trajectory that took
me from Everett to McKinsey.”
After “retiring” from his consulting firm,
Mason volunteered to assist Malden
Catholic with financial and operational
planning. He was subsequently invited
to join the Board of Trustees in 2002,
serving three consecutive terms.
For the last five years, the Tenaglias
have also provided funds to enable more
than 25 rising seniors per year to take
the Kaplan SAT prep course. With a
strategy to subsidize and encourage
the highest performing students to
take the Kaplan course, the college
placement results have been nothing
short of amazing. “It is our investment
in philanthropy that has had the highest
and most visible return,” said Mason.
You will often find Mason and Jim
Donovan, current Board member,
fishing off Chatham or watching the
Lancers play a hockey game. According
to Jim, “Mason is a great friend who has
stood tall for MC ever since I met him
13 years ago. A wonderful example of a
son of immigrants who never forgot his
Everett roots. He truly “gets it” when it
comes to placing the proper value on his
Malden Catholic education.”
Mason and Laurie have made a
significant commitment to The Essential
Malden Catholic Campaign. “I get
calls from The University of Chicago,
Georgetown and the private high
schools and colleges that my kids have
been to. None of them need our money
like MC does. Our investment in the
future of MC has direct and lasting
impact. And we can see it take effect. It
will go into the needs we have today and
the faculty and kids we have today.”

Ryken
Society
n 2004, Malden Catholic inaugurated the Theodore James Ryken Society. For 80
years, Malden Catholic has benefited from the generosity and forethought of those
who have given their time, talent and treasure to the educating young men taught in
the tradition of Ryken, the Founder of the Xaverian Brothers. The Society was created to
recognize those who have provided for future generations of Malden Catholic students
by making significant gifts through bequests, life income arrangements, or other
planned gifts.
Members of the Ryken Society will be recognized for their gifts, receive a handsome
lapel pin, invitations to special events, news and information about planned giving
at the school, and ongoing gift planning services. For more information on how you
can benefit Malden Catholic through a planned gift, please contact Bob McCarthy,
Director for Institutional Advancement, at 781-475-5333, or you can email Bob at
[email protected].
Since our founding, Malden Catholic has focused on the family commitment to our
students and alumni. We hope you will also consider us a member of your family
when you create or modify your will or estate plan.
You can become a member of the Ryken Society by:
1.Including Malden Catholic in your will, revocable trust or other financial plans.
2.Entering into a life income arrangement or charitable trust for the benefit of
Malden Catholic such as a charitable remainder trust, a charitable lead trust or
a pooled income fund.
3.Naming Malden Catholic as the owner and/or beneficiary of a life insurance policy.
4.Making a gift to the school of a residence or other tangible property.

Ways to give
Thanks to generous individuals like you, Malden Catholic
continually improves the opportunities offered to the young
men who will lead tomorrow.
Your gift today makes an immediate impact on students
by providing financial aid, co-curricular opportunities, and
curricular strength.
Matching Gifts
Don’t forget to ask your employer about matching gifts! You can
maximize your personal contributions to the school and increase
the impact of your gift by taking advantage of your company’s
matching gift benefit. Check with your human resources or
payroll department for details.
A Gift of Securities or Real Estate
By making a gift of securities or real estate you benefit in two
ways: first, by receiving a charitable income tax deduction,
and second, by avoiding capital gains taxes that would
otherwise be due on the appreciated property. For stock
transfer instructions, please contact the Director of Business
Operations at 781-475-5329.
To make a gift using your Visa, MasterCard, or American
Express, donate securely online at
www.maldencatholic.org
or contact Lisa Schlosberg at 781-475-5334.
Planned Giving
Planned gifts allow you to provide for Malden Catholic while
realizing your own financial and estate planning goals. Many
planned giving methods benefit the donor as well as the school,
by reducing or eliminating income, gift, and estate taxes. For
more information on Planned Giving, please contact the
Advancement Office at 781-475-5334.
Gifts In Kind
Non-cash gifts of property such as computers, books, scientific
equipment, art materials also make important gifts. The
fair market value of such items is deductible for income tax
purposes. A formal appraisal is required by the IRS for gifts in
kind valued at over $5,000.
Memorial Gifts
A gift in memory of someone you love or admire can be
a particularly meaningful way to contribute to Malden
Catholic High School. In honor of a special occasion or in
remembrance of a family member or friend, many choose to
create a restricted scholarship or an endowed scholarship in
their memory.
If you wish to mail a gift, please address it to:

Ensuring Malden Catholic for
Future Generations Through
The Essential Campaign
Jim Donovan
L
ongtime friend and supporter of
Malden Catholic High School,
Jim Donovan enjoyed a 25-year
career in banking prior to forming a
start-up medical consumer finance
company in 1993, Amerifee. Jim
retired in 2001, following the sale of
the company to Capital One. Since
that time, Jim and his wife, Beverly,
have served Malden Catholic High
School with inspiring dedication and
tremendous commitment.
“Malden Catholic is part of my DNA,”
explained Jim. “I feel strongly about
sustaining its mission. My father was
a 1937 graduate and introduced me
to Malden Catholic and the Xaverian
Brothers culture and mission at a
very early age. My brother Joe and I,
as well as my sons Jim and Mike, are
all products of Xaverian educations.
It is indeed essential that the entire
Malden Catholic experience be made
available to young men in Malden
and surrounding communities to
benefit from the faith formation
and educational structure offered
at MC. Boys who matriculate here
will make friends for life — not just
with other students, but with faculty,
administrators and coaches as well.
Young men leave Malden Catholic
with a strong moral compass and
outstanding study skills that they can
rely on to shape the rest of their lives.
For the past twelve years, I have had
the privilege of serving on the Board
of Trustees, giving me a window into
the very good work that takes place
each day at Malden Catholic High
School. As my campaign co-chair, Joe
O’Donnell, frequently says, MC is
an “Urban Oasis.” It is a unique place
where young boys are transformed into
mature, morally responsible young men
ready to become tomorrow’s leaders.
Just as the school’s motto “Plus Ultra”
(more beyond) implies, each and every
boy will be challenged to reach his
potential and will be nurtured by the
entire school community to ensure that
he achieves optimal results both in and
out of the classroom.
Eighty years after its founding the
mission at MC is thriving and has
never been more critical. The school
is blessed with a vibrant administrative
team, a highly seasoned and dedicated
faculty and the continued presence of
the Xaverian Brothers. Unlike many
other non-profit entities where your
dollars may be lost in the shuffle, you
can count on every dollar you give to
Malden Catholic to make a difference
in the lives of thousands of young men.
MC is on the move!! It is essential
that we upgrade our facility, support
our faculty, and provide for need-based
scholarships in order for Malden
Catholic to attract today’s young men
to our campus. We owe it to this next
generation of students to provide them
with a first class college preparatory
experience. Upgrading our technology
and renovations allowing for an
entire new science wing and learning
commons are critical components if
we are to compete in the 21st century.
We are counting on our 7000 alumni
and friends to join us in supporting
this Campaign to ensure a Malden
Catholic High School education for
future generations.”

Joe O’Donnell ’62 and Family Make $5 Million
Gift to Essential Campaign Donors Challenged With Matching Gift
“It’s personal,” said Joe O’Donnell, explaining why he chose to make
a historic $5 million gift to the Essential Malden Catholic Campaign.
“It’s payback that covers many things, but three in particular. First,
I formed terrific relationships with the people at Malden Catholic;
the school was like an extension of family. Second, I benefited from
a terrific education taught by the Xaverian Brothers. Third, I really
had a good time.”
As an eager eighth grader in the sixties, Joe originally had his sights
set on Everett High School. “My dad told me I was attending
Malden Catholic. Those were the days when your parents made
those choices for you. So with a heavy heart, I set out for my first
day at MC, taking two buses and a transfer. After the first day, I fell
in love with the place.”
A 1962 graduate of Malden Catholic, Joe graduated from Harvard
College in 1967 and the Harvard Business School in 1971. Today he
is highly recognized and respected in the business arena. He is the
founder of Boston Culinary Group, is Chairman of Centerplate,
a nationally recognized foodservice company and is the owner of
Allied Advertising Agency.
Joe is a past Overseer at Harvard and currently serves as a Fellow on
the Harvard Corporation. Joe also serves as Chairman of the National
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation $250 million Milestones Campaign. He
and his wife Kathy founded the Joey Fund in 1986 in memory of
their son who died of the disease in 1986.
Joe credits Malden Catholic with setting the foundation for his
success. “In so many ways, Malden Catholic helped me to move
forward – Exeter, Harvard, Harvard Business School – and to where
I am today. Giving back is the right thing to do.”
“We are so grateful for the incredible generosity of Joe and
the O’Donnell family,” said Edward Tyrrell, Malden Catholic
Headmaster. “Over the years, he has supported our school as a trustee
and benefactor. Today, his gift opens the door to Malden Catholic’s
future and ensures the mission of the Xaverian Brothers will live on
in the Malden area.”
Joe has generously challenged Malden Catholic’s alumni and friends
with a match of up to $5 million to the Essential Malden Catholic
Campaign, doubling the effects of the first $5 million donated to the
fund. Many six and seven figure pledges have already been recorded.
The Essential Malden Catholic Campaign will provide money for
campus modernization, including a new science wing and learning
commons, and a strategic operating reserve fund that will help
support the exceptional faculty and innovative programs that have
made Malden Catholic a top-ranked, all-boys high school.
“Malden Catholic has a bright future within grasp,” said Headmaster
Tyrrell. “With supporters like Joe, and the many donors who will step
up to his challenge, we can make a difference for Malden Catholic.”
Joe O’Donnell ’62 and Jim Donovan
Co-Chair The Essential Malden Catholic Campaign
Joe O’Donnell and Jim Donovan have come
forward to co-chair the first comprehensive
campaign in the history of the school, The Essential
Malden Catholic Campaign. Together, these
dedicated men will lead the school toward a
fundraising goal tentatively set at $15 million.
“At this point in time, it’s the right thing to do,” said Joe O’Donnell.
“Malden Catholic makes a real difference in the lives of local
students. Year after year, Malden Catholic demonstrates college
placement outcomes that rival those of any other Catholic school
in the area. With solid leadership in place, raising this money will
give a future to Malden Catholic. This cause is real, it’s sustainable,
and it needs action now.”
“When you look at the entire New England area, Malden Catholic is
one of only two remaining all-boys Catholic high schools operating
in an urban location,” explained Jim Donovan. “Given the real
difference the school has made in the lives of
thousands of young men, it is critical we maintain
and grow the Xaverian mission in Malden.
Generations to come deserve this opportunity.
I’ve been around MC long enough to see firsthand
that my philanthropic dollars have made a major
difference at the school. Others should know that
their dollars will directly impact the sustainability of the mission
for decades to come. We are counting on their generosity to help
make Malden Catholic into a 21st century model of educational
excellence. Now is the time to step up and be counted.”
“The loyalty and commitment of Joe and Jim are phenomenal,”
said Edward Tyrrell, Headmaster. “We are truly blessed to
have their backing. Their enthusiasm and passion for Malden
Catholic are certain to inspire other faithful members of the
Malden Catholic community to reach “plus ultra” and support
The Essential Campaign.”

A Lifetime of Giving
Gerard ‘46 &
Marilyn Doherty
G
erard Doherty, Esq. has led a highly successful
career in law, public service and business.
Following his graduation from Malden
Catholic in 1946, he earned an A.B. from Harvard, a
master’s degree from Wayne University in Michigan,
and a law degree from Suffolk University. Highlights
of his career include four terms in the Massachusetts
House of Representatives, serving as campaign
manager for Sen. Edward Kennedy, and chairing the
Massachusetts Democratic State Committee from
1962-67. Gerard was presidential campaign director
for President Carter and Senator Robert Kennedy.
He has practiced law in Boston for more than
thirty years and is co-developer of several adapted,
reuse applications for housing complexes, including
Admiral Hill, Chelsea.
Gerard believes that Malden Catholic gave him the
foundation for success. “The Brothers and staff at
Malden Catholic gave me confidence in what they
taught,” explained Gerard. “I was able to utilize the
strengths of the school, in particular the teachers.
They encouraged me to have balance in my life
which allowed me to be able to apply to Harvard
and marshal time to do well in a very ambitious
football program.”
For decades, Gerard and his wife, Marilyn, have
been staunch Malden Catholic supporters. A
native of Charlestown, Gerard has been a longtime
supporter of Malden Catholic’s Charlestown
students. From graciously hosting admission coffees
in their home to generously providing Malden
Catholic scholarships to Charlestown boys, Gerard
and Marilyn have consistently championed the
Malden Catholic cause. Malden Catholic was
proud to recognize Gerard Doherty as the Lifetime
Achievement honoree at the 2008 Gala.
A former Malden Catholic trustee, Gerard knows
well the challenges posed to the school and its
families in today’s economy. His past support of the
Marilyn and Gerard doherty
school has included capital projects such as Doherty
Gymnasium. Today, Gerard and Marilyn have
pledged to support The Essential Malden Catholic
Campaign with a major gift.
Gerard and Marilyn believe it is essential to
support Malden Catholic today for a better school
tomorrow. “I support Malden Catholic because the
Brothers, faculty and staff there supported me,” he
said. “They enabled me to achieve great things in my
life, and it is my time to give back. I attribute much
of my success to Malden Catholic. Also, I am very
proud of my community that I come from, and I
would like the sons of my friends and neighbors to
have available the same life-changing opportunities
and atmosphere for learning that I had. Malden
Catholic is the ideal place.”

Investing in the
Malden Catholic
Mission
Sean
Hurley
’97
A
Medford, Massachusetts native,
Sean Hurley entered Malden
Catholic High School in the fall
of 1993. Sean recalls with great respect the
tremendous impact of Brother Fred Eid,
CFX. “He had a real zest for life,” said Sean.
“He was also very fair and treated everyone
as individuals.” Coach Perry also made
an impression on Sean. He explains, “He
demanded the best out of everyone all the
time. As a member of the basketball team,
you ended up having your day scheduled until
about 9:00 each night with practice, classes
and homework. While it was very difficult,
it actually prepared me very well for college
and beyond.”
The structure provided by Brother Eid,
Coach Perry, the Xaverian Brothers and
the dedicated faculty was the foundation
on which Sean successfully built his
collegiate experience at Bates College. An
Economics major with a concentration in
Spanish, Sean went on to earn an MBA
at University of Chicago. He worked
in investment banking in New York
and later in investment management in
Chicago, London and now in Boston.
“The Malden Catholic mission is more
critical today than ever,” explains Sean.
“Reading the newspaper and listening
to the news, we constantly hear about a
crisis in education. Malden Catholic has
an eighty year history of educating young
Sean and Elizabeth Hurley
men with solid academics, competitive
athletics and service programs designed
to develop the whole person. My wife,
Elizabeth, and I know that when we
support Malden Catholic there is an
immediate impact on students, with the
vast majority of the Annual Fund going for
financial aid. In addition, as we enter The
Essential Malden Catholic Campaign, it is
exciting to see the plans for the new science
labs, library and uses of technology. These
changes will allow MC to be a leader in
education beyond our 100th anniversary.
A member of the school’s Board of
Trustees, Sean serves on several Board
committees and is an officer in the Malden
Catholic Alumni Association. “MC is still
doing a great job of building character and
academic skills to make average students
good and make good students great. The
school culture hasn’t changed since any
of us attended, while the expectation for
excellence has increased.”
“My wife Elizabeth
and I know that when
we support Malden
Catholic there is an
immediate impact
on students, with the
vast majority of the
Annual Fund going for
financial aid.”

SCHOLARSHIPS
Endowed Scholarships
When you endow a scholarship, you ensure that students of Malden Catholic will have the financial aid they
need for many generations. Perhaps you will choose to endow scholarships in memory or in honor of a loved
one, adding another level of meaning to the kind of education you believe in. Endowed scholarships are invested
and pay out an established percentage of income per year in financial aid; and you may increase the size of the
corpus at any time. Thank you to all of you who have chosen this way to make a Malden Catholic education
possible for the young men of the future.

ANNUAL FUND
The Fund for Malden Catholic is part of a strategic
advancement effort that is dedicated to securing financial
support from MC community members to help offset
operational needs, provide additional resources and
enrich the outstanding education offered at Malden
Catholic. Each year, Malden Catholic relies on the
generosity of those who financially contribute to MC
to ensure in the preservation of Xaverian education and
to provide for the margin of educational excellence that
goes beyond the value of the cost of tuition.
These dollars are put to work immediately and helps
to balance the affordability of tuition with the growing
cost of providing our students with a robust academic,
athletic, co-curricular, spiritual and social program. Our
donors show a strong commitment to the mission of
Malden Catholic when they choose to make gifts to the
Fund for Malden Catholic each year.
Support of the Fund for Malden Catholic ensures that things
like curriculum development, library acquisitions,
technology updates and more remain a top priority
so that our students receive the best educational
opportunities our dedicated faculty and staff can provide.
It is gifts to the Fund for Malden Catholic that help us keep our
competitive edge and remain one of Greater Boston’s
highest achieving all-boys high schools.
To learn more about how you can participate in the Fund
for Malden Catholic please contact Carolyn Rolfe, Assistant
Director of Institutional Advancement, at 781-475-5332
