slideshow resource guide
This guide is a comprehensive list of products
I’ve used to create professional quality
photo slideshows over the last 12 years.
Many of the products are priced for the
“professional” user. By no means do you
need all of these products to get started. All
you need is a basic scanner and software to
build the show. As you get more clients with
complex projects, you may need to add on
additional equipment or services.
SCANNING PHOTOS
SCANNERS!
Kodak - PS50($1669 ezphotoscan.com)
• My top choice for high speed scanning
Canon - Canoscan 9000f ($178 - Amazon)
• Good cheap flatbed that also does a decent job on slides/negatives
Pacific Image - Powerslide 5000 ($1100 - Amazon)
!
• Good automated batch slide scanner with dust/scratch removal
SCANNING SOFTWARE!
Vuescan - ($39.95 std; $79.95 pro - hamrick.com)
• Great software that works with over 2400 scanners & has infrared cleaning support to make slides look their best. I use the
pro version when I’m using my Powerslide and Canon scanners.
!
SCANNING/VIDEO DIGITIZING VENDORS!
• EverPresent (everpresentonline.com) - EverPresent digitizes any photo, video or audio format, including very delicate
albums and scrapbooks and even damaged videos. They also go to the next level on folder structuring, caption
transcription, facial recognition and photobook/slideshow design.
• FotoBridge (www.fotobridge.com) FotoBridge professionally prepares, enhances and scans photos, slides, home movies
and video tapes which are then transferred to high quality DVDs.
!
IMPORTANT SCANNING TIPS!
• Scan photos at a high enough resolution to enable cropping and panning/zooming (300 dpi min.)
EDITING PHOTOS
SOFTWARE!
Photoshop Elements ($99.99 - adobe.com)
• There are obviously lots of choices for photo editing, but I find that for the money, Elements is all I need and it has great
fast fix options for color correction, brightness, red-eye and fixing scratches.
!
!
RETOUCHING VENDOR!
Hollywood FotoFix (www.hollywoodfotofix.com) provides wholesale photo restoration services to photo professionals. DON’T FORGET!!
• Crop all white borders/edges - only show the photo!
• Color correct, red-eye removal, time date stamp removal, brightness/contrast, fix scratches
• Depending on your preference, convert black white images to grayscale for consistency
