Wow is it cold enough for everyone
lately.....Bbbbbrrrrrr. The only good
thing about that is some very nice
opportunities to get some images
showing frost or fog, hope you have
been out there making the most of these
cold atmospheric mornings. Heather
Matthews posted this one on facebook
a couple of weeks ago Certainly
highlights the chill in the air we have
been feeling lately!

Last month we had David Simmonds
judge for us, a professional photographer
formerly from Melbourne, David
has moved into the Otways and now
lives at Johanna. He specialises in
photographing Architecture and shared
with us some of the great images he
has captured in and around Melbourne.
Congratulations to those who entered
and to the winners and placegetters.
Planning is well under way for our
AGM this year at our August meeting,
we will follow up on last year's
successes and host a Trivia Night after
the formalities of the meeting are over.
We had great feedback from our Trivia
Night last year that was loads of fun, so
we hope to do the same this year. You
will need to arrange teams of four like
last year and BYO small table to sit at.
Please let me know your team of four,
family and friends are most welcome to
make up the team. Our Committee has
been running short handed this year so
anyone willing to join us for next year
please let us know.
We are hosting the Corio Bay/
Bellarine/Colac Tri comp this year on
Saturday August 8th at 7.30pm. Dinner
will be at NuDeli prior, hope you can
join us on the night. Interclub nights
are always a great opportunity to view
some amazing images from other clubs
and to see how well we shape up against
them. I urge you to come along on the
night. Go Colac!
We have an outing on the syllabus
planned for the July "Open Melbourne"
weekend on 25 or 26th July this year
it is called "Discover your Curiocity".
If the weather is forecast reasonable
we will attempt it again this year. We
have tried a few times and not made it
so hopefully this year will be different.
Our plan is to drive to Geelong then
jump on a train so we don't need to
worry about parking when we get there.
Those people keen to join in please let a
committee member know.
This month we will be competing in
our annual team event of the Guys vs
Gals. The competition is going to be
hotly contested again this year for that
amazing trophy! I hope the girls are
able to continue their winning ways this
year. Go Gals!
Happy snapping ~ Kerrie

in focus
ask me no questions
and I'll tell you no lies.
Where were you born?
London, England.
What town is home now?
I now live just outside Simpson
along with my partner and an ever
growing menagerie of animals.
Which sportsperson or team do
you admire the most?
If you could live in any other
timezone when might that be?
I’m an engineer at heart, so
probably the future, it would
be awesome to see how we’ve
advanced as a species.
Full time photographer, part time
smallholder.
What would be your dream
occupation?
Lion tamer, seriously though I’m
pretty lucky to do what I do now.
What’s your favourite food?
(Dak Galbi), a Korean dish
consisting of spicy chicken,
cabbage and potato.

Who’s been your biggest role
model?
I find myself asking myself "what
Ryan Brenizer do?” an awful lot,
I’m lucky that I can drop him a
message and find out.
What’s your occupation?
Paul Benjamin
Member Profile
What’s your favourite movie?
"Small is Beautiful” and not just
because Jeremy bullied me into
saying it*.
*ok maybe a little...
You are gifted $10,000. How do
you spend it?
I’m officially old and boring so
it would mean I could justify a
slightly nicer tractor...
page 13
Genki Sudo, both for the way he
approached the sport and what
he has done since his retirement.
That and he was cool when we
trained together..
You can invite 5 famous people
to join you for dinner. Who are
they?
Assuming we are limited to the
living, I’d invite Alan Moore, Seth
Godin, Matthew Inman, Quentin
Tarantino and Amanda Palmer
(ideally she’ll bring her husband
along too)
Do you have a hobby other than
photography?
Until the move to the country I
spent my free time boxing and
wrestling, now the closest I get is
trying to catch the pigs.
Who or what inspired you to
take up photography?
I’ve always been fascinated by the
ability to capture moments on film
and relive them forever, looking
through my parents photographs
and slides as a child was awesome.
Leaving the UK and wanting to
document my life around the globe
made me take things a bit more
seriously.
What’s something that you’ve
always wanted to try?
Right now I’m really keen to
try producing wet plates and
other alternative processes, it’s
definitely on the list once I have
the darkroom built.
