The Hazleton Y Barracuda Swim Team, led by a professional is a
year-round family swim team committed to providing opportunities
for health and well-being to our YMCA members and the
community through competitive aquatic experiences.

BITTY BARRACUDAS (5-13 years)
Our year round developmental swim program will introduce the
basics of competitive swimming such as, starts, flip turns, and the
four competitive strokes: butterfly, back stroke, breast stroke and
free style. This course is highly recommended, but not required, for
anyone interested in joining the Barracuda Swim Team.

BARRACUDA SUMMER SWIM TEAM (5-18 years)
Our summer Swim Team is open to any swimmer between the ages
of 5 and 18 who can successfully complete on length of the pool
doing the front crawl stroke.
White $140: Ages 5 to 12 years. For the new or young swimmer
who needs work on technique
Red $155: Must be able to do 100 yard I.M. under 2:15 legally
(1 lap of each stroke). Emphasis will be 50% technique and 50%
conditioning
Blue $180: Must be able to swim 10x50’s freestyle in 1:00 min.
and have 100 I.M. time of 1:28:00 or 200 I.M. time 3:15:00 or
faster. Emphasis will be 30% technique and 70% conditioning.
Practices are scheduled to begin June 16.
CREDIT/REFUND POLICY
Please choose classes carefully. Refunds or credits will only be
given: with a doctor’s note or if a class is cancelled by the Y.
In the event of a prolonged illness, please notify the
departments director in writing immediately and present a
doctor’s not as soon as possible. Credit will not be given due
to participants failure to attend.
We will make every effort to hold makeup classes due to the
inclement weather. In the event of inclement weather, you
can check our website, Facebook page, WBRE-TV or call the
Y. Credits or refunds will not be given due to circumstances
beyond our control (snow/electrical storm, power failure)

SWIM LESSONS
Our Aquatics program offers a fun, safe, and enjoyable experience
for parents and young children. Under the direction of trained and
certified staff, your child will participate in a combination of wateradjustment skills, songs, and games geared for their age group
and swim level.

NEW 3 Week Lessons
Designed for 5 - 10 year olds with little or no previous swim
experience.
Children kindergarten and up may join this program for water adjustment,
stroke development, physical conditioning, and personal safety as well as
fun.

Polliwog - No previous experience and/or hesitancy in the water.
Assisted paddle stroke, blowing bubbles, and kicking.

Guppy - Beginning front crawl with overarm recovery. Concentration is on rotary breathing ,backstroke and treading water.

PRESCHOOL (3-5 years without a parent)
Pike - Child cannot swim independently. Apprehensive/first-time
experience. Emphasis at this level is putting face in the water, so
child should be comfortable submerging underwater. Basic
swimming and water safety skills are begun.

Eel - Child can swim independently at least 10 feet on their front and back in a horizontal position. This class also concentrates on back floating independently and kicking on back while finning.

Starfish - Child can swim 20 feet with face in the water and no floatation
device. Refine over the arm recovery and breathing while swimming on
front. Continued challenge with new strokes and survival skills

Ray - Child can swim 15 feet with face in the water and still require 1 or 2 small floats. It reviews and improves stroke skills on front, back and side;builds endurance and teaches treading water, floating in
dependently and rotary breathing. Introcuction to breast stroke, dolphin kick and a standing dive.

Minnow - Concentration on front crawl with coordinated overarm
recovery and rotary breathing. Can swim front crawl and
backstroke 25 yards without stopping. Symmetrical strokes are introduced.
