A REACH HISTORY AND TRADITION
Prijepolje was established as a settlement in
1234,
and historical sources mentioned
Prijepolje for the first time in 1343. In historical
sources, Prijepolje was developed like a road
settlement on caravans road known as
"Dubrovnik's road", which was connecting
central and east parts of the Balkans with the
middle part of the Adriatic coast.
In the terms of history, this area was very
important trading cross road and the shortest
connection route between West Balkans and
East, as well East and West. Today Prijepolje is
located at borders of Serbia, Montenegro and
Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Prijepolje area abounds in cultural and historical monuments and heritage, dating to as far bask as the
Roman times.

industrial products into Serbia are generally customs-free, but for a large
number of goods customs duties will be progressively abolished over the sixyear period, ending in 2015.

Kolovrat Business Zone is one of five business units of infrastructure that exist in the municipality of Prijepolje representing the
backbone of its business and economic development. Velika Župa, Ivanje, Kolovrat, Zalug and Brodarevo are locations that
perform various business activities within the sectors of: production, processing, construction and building materials industry,
storage, trade, transport and distribution.
Business Zone Kolovrat is the largest and the most exploited space of this type in the municipality, and therefore it is the most
important for its economic development, playing a significant role in the development of the whole sub-region of Polimlje. It is
located in of the southeastern part of Prijepolje at the distance of 2 km. The zone covers 60 hectares of land, mixed ownership
structure - municipal, private, state (Serbian Railways), 25 ha of it is developed space.
Business entities that currently operate in this location employ over 1,000 workers. For this reason, BZ Kolovrat represents a
central point of economic life in Prijepolje municipality, providing the strategic importance to Polimlje on the economic map in
the south- western part of Serbia.
The zone is located at the intersection of main roads M21 (Subotica-Podgorica) and M8 (Novi Pazar-Pljevlja), next to the
railway Belgrade-Bar. State border with the Republic of Montenegro is not far from the Zone, with the border crossings
Jabuka (12 km) and Gostun (34 km). The border with Bosnia and Herzegovina is 34 km far (border crossing Uvac). Just this
kind of geographical position makes the Zone an attractive location for business and convenient for international economic
activity.
SUB-ZONE -
is located along the left bank of the Lim River to the main road M21 and covers an
area of ​15 ha. In addition to the listed entities, all other sizes, towards Bijelo Polje to the highway, is free
and is privately owned.
CENTRAL ZONE -
is located between the road M21 and railway Belgrade-Bar, the total area
of ​8 ha. 13 existing businesses currently located in this region operates in the sectors of furniture
production, the industry of constructing materials, textile production and processing, wholesale and a
number of services. The structure of the remaining available land in this sub-zone is partly privately owned
and partly owned by Serbian Railways.
INDUSTIAL ZONE
- Within the Zone there is an Industrial Zone with 13 lots, the total area
of ​2.5 ha, ranging from 7-33 acres per individual lot. One of the lots provides exceptional opportunities for
Brownfield investments, including the abandoned building with the dimensions 50 x 15 m, built of solid
material, suitable for maintenance and repair of vehicles and machines. Other locations are also suitable
for Greenfield investment.
This separate sub-unit is fully equipped with infrastructure (road access, substation, rain and fecal
sewerage, water supply) is available to interested businesses. The production, trade, service and
administrative activities within the sectors of wood, food and textile industry are recommended in the
Study of Justification, done by the municipality, and represent the main development activities of the
municipality.
UPPER ZONE -
covers 25.5 ha, extends from the Belgrade-Bar railway line to the main road
route M8. Its greatest potential is certainly numerous of Brownfield sites remained after the great industrial
factories of chemical ("Elan") and metal-processing ("FAP") industry. There are dozens of businesses
currently operate in the sectors of wood processing, trade, bakery industry and metal processing, leaving
enough space for new investment projects.
LOWER ZONE -
covers 9 hectares and extends to the right of the Upper zone along the left
bank of the river Seljasnica, at the foot of the hill Gradina. The former giants of textile ("Ljubisa
Miodragović") and footwear industry ("Limka") located their production sectors at this location, working with
significantly reduced capacity due to current economic trends. At the same time, among them, there are
dozens smaller companies located more there.

The most common of the fruit production are: raspberry, apple and plum. Potato is the

As the natural environment has been preserved in our region, there are large
quantities of forest fruits, medical plants and mushrooms.
Most processed are wild mushrooms (porcini and chanterelle). Mushrooms are
marketed as fresh, dried and preserved. This products are mainly exported. The
municipality of Prijepolje is excellent market for forest fruits (juniper, dog rose,
blueberry, wild strawberries, wild blackberries, etc), which are processed, dried,
frozen, blanched and exported to a markets of Italy, Austria, Germany and Poland.
There are also large quantities of herbs as plantain, mint, thyme, gentian, yarrow,
mallow, selenium, sage, lavender, angelica and oregano.

In the last two decades in Zlatibor region,start a production of houseplants and
garden flowers. There are more than 70 types of flowering plants in region of
Zlatibor . In Požega ( 102 km distance from Prijepolja) exist The Forest Seed
Centre, provided with most up-to-date equipment used in the world. It is the bestquality plant for processing and storage of forest seed in South-East Europe.
PRODUCTION AND PROCESSING OF
MEAT
This production is present at agricultural farms and there are a lot of
farms with a larger number of cattle, cows, sheep and fattened bull
calves. A lot of farms produce in traditional way. The animal products
are of top quality.
There is a large number of abandoned villages in our region, so you
could find cheap land holdings.
An excellent example of a successful business in this sector is
"Zlatiborac". "Zlatiborac" supplies hotels, big trading chains, huge
supermarkets with smoked meat products of top-quality that are
produced in a traditional manner and by modern finishing and

MILK
Milk, from Zlatibor region, owing to the geography, climate and the
method of breeding, is of top quality and in high demand at the local
and foreign markets. A larger part of production belongs to the
production of pasteurised milk and sour dairy products, and recent
products are paprika with cream, Trappist cheese and cream.
Cheese is produced in wide-ranging flavors, textures, and forms.
PRODUCTION OF HONEY
Honey is produced in unspoiled countryside that is clean green and
nuclear free. The most common of this production are: meadow honey,
forest honey and acacia honey, with the addition of fruit and nuts, placed
on the market in small packages. Honey can be produced with the
addition of forests plants. All raw materials needed for this production
could be found in our environment.
FISH PRODUCTION AND
PROCESSING
In recent years production of fish in region of Zlatibor has
increased. Ponds have been constructed primarily for
growing trout. Companies that produce fish are going to
modernize their production and improve competitiveness in
domestic and world markets. Foreign market is in constant
demand for fresh fish, and because of that fish processing in
our municipality would be the right choice.
MILLING, BAKERY AND CONFECTIONERY PRODUCTION
In the food processing industry there are facilities for bread and
pastry production. In recent years some companies produce
pasta, dough slices for pies, pies made of buckwheat, puff pastry
and fruit pies .
The region has developed confectionery production, primarily
processing and packaging of sugar. Packaging of granular and
powder products is increasing.

Prijepolje Municipality is characterized by the high quality
hydrological capacities, above all, the Lim River, Mileševka and
Seljašnica river courses, and numerous potable water sources. The
analysis conducted by the Serbian Health Protection Institute
showed that water of all 13 sources located on Prijepolje Territory is
potable. Source of high quality selenium rich mineral water is located
in the valley of the Seljašnica River (8 km from the town).
Prijepolje has enormous potential for the construction of mini hydro
power plants.
FORESTS
Prijepolje municipal territory is rich in forests in the areas of Zlatar,
Jadovnik, Ozren, Lise, Kamena Gora, Babina, Pobijenik and other
mountain areas. These areas are characterized by fresh air and
represents an important natural resource.
According to «SRBIJAŠUME», Prijepolje Municipality manages
65,523.63 hectares of forests owned by state, out of which 6 ,525.87
hectares are under conifer forests, and 22,220.32 hectares under
low forests. Such a forests structure is a great potential for wood
processing industry development.
ORE
40 million tons of copper, lead and Zink deposits, according to
assessment, are locate in Čadinje, close to the industrial zone.
Additionally, there are smaller deposits of gold, silver and nonmetals.
LAND
Prijepolje territory has plenty different scenic areas ranging from valleys close
to the river Lim to thick forests and mountain grazing land.
Agricultural land in this area covers the area of 38,205 ha and represents an
enormous wealth of our region.

intertwined; trade caravans and Dubrovnik’s emissaries, poets, and

The rich tourist offer of Prijepolje , which is called the “town of rivers” by
modern tourists, includes Mileševa monastery ( XIII century ), the
monasteries by the “holy waters of the River Lim“ (Davidovica,
Kumanica...) , the medieval castles Mileševac and Kovin, the Roman
necropolis in Kolovrat ( II and IV century), the monuments of the Islamic
culture and civilization.

Pasha’s Mosque in Šarampovo ( XVI century ) listed under the status of
the “cultural monuments“ and Clock Tower in Vakuf ( XIII century ).

constructed in 1887, on a rock above the River Lim
