The other large cities we’ll visit during this cruise are Buenos Aires in Argentina, and Sao Paolo in Brazil. Crystal Cruises wants to show us not only the remarkable and impressive culture of these three metropolises, but also the small cities on South America’s eastern coast which we bet you’ll find enchanting! This cruise, which Crystal calls ‘Tangos and Sambas’, will take us from the shores of the ‘Paris of the Southern Hemisphere’ (Buenos Aires), to the welcoming arms of Christ the Redeemer in Rio. Along the way we’ll enjoy some churrasco and caipirinhas, and perhaps learn to samba, while putting ashore to enjoy the culture and history of three countries. The ship docks overnight in cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. With broad, well planned avenues, charming sidewalk cafés, carefully tended parks, elaborate monuments, and splendid rococo buildings, the city exudes an air of sophisticated elegance. Perhaps you’ll venture into town that evening to catch a tango performance or to enjoy dinner with the locals. On how many tours will you have the opportunity to visit Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo? Set in a picturesque location along the River Plate, Montevideo evokes the flavor of Spain with the massive masonry, hidden patios and palm-shaded plazas that are so reminiscent of that country. Another notable port is Paraty, a picturesque colonial town frozen in time. Founded by Portuguese immigrants, it became an important port during an 18th century gold rush. The money that poured into town resulted in a collection of beautiful colonial buildings, and today the historic town center is closed to 2 • • • • • • Escorted from Detroit by your NexTour Leader * Airport parking and shuttle to terminal * Pre-trip gathering with fellow NexTourists * 11 nights aboard ship (including port taxes and transfers) 33 meals (11 breakfasts, 11 lunches, 11 dinners) All-inclusive package aboard ship includes complimentary fine wines and premium spirits, gratuities for housekeeping, bar, and dining staff, entertainment and lectures, one dinner each at specialty restaurants Prego and Silk Road, 60 min/person/day internet access Tour of Petropolis Ship porterage of one piece of luggage per person Airline baggage fees, 1 bag per person Round-trip main cabin air and destination transfers will be included at the additional price noted below unless you advise us otherwise at time of reservation. *Exclusive NexTour features Pricing (per person) DoubleSingle Cat C3 (Window), deck 7, forward $5,600 $7,260 Cat B3 (Verandah), deck 8, forward $6,460 $8,950 Cat A2 (Verandah), deck 9, forward $7,100 $9,600 Other cabin categories may be available; call office for details. You might visit the southern part of the continent of Africa only once, and we suggest that this combined cruise and game safari tour will satisfy your desire to experience South Africa’s attractions—both natural and man-made. South Africa is a vast country and one of the most culturally and geographically diverse places on earth. Fondly known by locals as the ‘Rainbow Nation’, South Africa has 11 official languages and its multicultural inhabitants are influenced by a fascinating mix of African, Asian and European cultures. Most important to many visitors is South Africa’s remarkably untamed wilderness with its astonishing range of wildlife roaming freely across game reserves such as Kruger National Park. Kruger is one of the world’s largest game reserves and here we’ll experience amazing diversity, from the scenery and ecosystems to the dazzling array of animals, trees and birds. Established by South African president Paul Kruger in 1898, Kruger’s 16 eco-zones (each with its own geology, rainfall, altitude, and landscape) are home to more than 500 bird species and 147 mammal species. The Park’s flora varies from tropical to subtropical. We’ll go on safari as soon as we arrive in South Africa, flying into Johannesburg and staying four nights inside Kruger at two of the Park’s rest camps. Daily game drives will take us in search of the Big Five: the African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard, and rhinoceros. Although our accommodations in Kruger are not rustic—we’ll have private bathrooms and showers—it will be nice to board the luxurious Silver Cloud after a few days at Satara and Skukuza Rest Camps. Our 10-day all-inclusive voyage will have three days at sea, allowing us lots of time to relax and enjoy the ship’s wonderful amenities. 6 Daily Itinerary Pricing (per person) Feb 10 Fly Detroit/Johannesburg, SA Feb 11 Johannesburg Feb 12 Kruger National Park Feb 13 Kruger National Park Feb 14 Kruger National Park Feb 15 Kruger National Park Feb 16 Johannesburg Feb 17 Cape Town, SA Embarkation Feb 18 At Sea Feb 19 Port Elizabeth, SA Feb 20 At Sea Feb 21 Maputo, Mozambique Feb 22-23 Richards Bay, SA Feb 24 Durban, SA Feb 25 East London, SA Feb 26 At Sea Feb 27 Fly Cape Town/Johannesburg/Detroit Disembarkation; Cape Town city tour Feb 28 Arrival in Detroit Vista (window) Veranda Mid-Ship Veranda Included Features • • • • Ports on our cruise include the unspoiled Indian Ocean beaches of Richards Bay, cosmopolitan Cape Town, and historic Durban which is said to have the largest Indian population outside of India. If you’ve never been to Mozambique, here’s your chance. We’ll dock for a few hours in Maputo, its laid-back capital. First-time visitors are often amazed at how sophisticated the infrastructure is on the southern tip of what is still sometimes referred to as the Dark Continent, and yet moved by the living standards of so many. This unnerving combination of First and Third Worlds is also what makes it such a dynamic destination. Add vast tracts of untouched wilderness, iconic natural wonders, fascinating wildlife, superb wines, world-class restaurants, and an all-year temperate climate, and it is easy to see why post-apartheid South Africa has emerged as one of the world's fastest-growing tourism destinations. • • • • • • Escorted from Detroit by your NexTour Leader * Airport parking and shuttle to terminal * Pre-trip gathering with fellow NexTourists * 6 nights hotel lodging, 10 nights aboard ship (including port taxes and transfers) 40 meals (16 breakfasts, 10 lunches, 14 dinners) Kruger Wildlife Safari game drives; Cape Town city tour All-inclusive cruise features: beverages (select wines, premium spirits, specialty coffees and soft drinks), stocked mini-bar, 24-hr room service, transportation into town in most ports, onboard gratuities, enrichment and entertainment programs, free Wi-Fi throughout the ship Hotel and ship porterage of one piece of luggage per person Airline baggage fees, 1 bag per person Economy air Detroit/Johannesburg, Johannesburg/ Cape Town and and Cape Town/Detroit and destination transfers will be included at the additional price noted below unless you advise us otherwise at time of reservation. *Exclusive NexTour features DoubleSingle $6,540 $ 8,630 $7,420 $ 9,950 $7,580 $10,190 We will add $1,575 for roundtrip economy air to the above cost unless you tell us you wish to make your own air arrangements at time of reservation. Tourists now flock to see the bears as they migrate and we’ll join in that pilgrimage, traveling by train (in Sleeper Plus class) rather than plane between Winnipeg and Churchill. Our full-day polar bear adventure will be aboard a 40-seat specially-designed Tundra Buggy which will take us out onto the tundra to view wildlife in its natural environment. As a result of climate change, the bears’ numbers have dropped by 22% over the past 30 years. Don’t wait—reserve today—the polar bears might not be near Churchill forever! Christmas In the United Kingdom – Seasonal Joy! The holiday spirit is fabulous in the hamlets and towns of the U.K.—many towns have holiday markets, décor is Olde World charming and peace pervades the land. Less known than ‘the continent’s’, but just as charming and fun-to-shop, are the Christmas markets in Great Britain’s smaller cities: Bath, York, Cardiff, and Nottingham. We'll stay three nights in Bath at the Bath Abbey Hotel. This 18th century building is near the Pump Rooms and Roman Baths, not far from Bath Abbey as we explore Jane Austen’s wonderful city! Follow in her footsteps as you stroll Great Pulteney Street or along the Royal Crescent before visiting the Assembly Rooms featured in her novel Persuasion. We’ve included a walking tour both in Bath and on our day trip to Cardiff, Wales. Next we transfer to York with a drive through the Cotswolds and with a stop at the Victorian Christmas market in Nottingham. Our three nights in York will be at the Park Inn by Radisson. York is a lovely city; we’ve included a walking tour and we’ll see York Minster, we’ll shamble along The Shambles, a street lined with overhanging timber-framed buildings and attend a Christmas concert by ‘Joglaresa’, a female vocal quintet which specializes in medieval, folk and world music. Near York is Castle Howard, one of Britain’s finest stately homes which we’ll tour while it’s decorated for Christmas. We’ve squeezed a lot of excitement (and shopping) into a week-long package which will kick off your Christmas season with a reserved British bang. And if shopping’s not really your bag, just think of all the time that frees up to explore these beautiful small cities on your own. The markets are all located city-center, so you could wander the nearby alleys or lanes or relax in a pub while waiting. Snow? Certainly not guaranteed, but Mother Nature could decide to decorate the countryside—come with us to Britain and find out! 8 Oct 3 – 9, 2016 A Polar Bear Adventure in Churchill – By Train! $2,850 double/ $2,980 single.
