What is a Memory Box?
Our eleven themed Memory Boxes are great resources for reminiscence work. Each box contains approximately 20 multi-sensory
objects to stimulate discussions about times past plus an information
pack on how to get the most out of your session.
What is a Local History Photo Pack?
Rekindle memories of the local area with our nine locality-themed
Photo Packs. Each pack contains 20 A4 sized photographs, a DVD of
images and an information pack with trigger questions.
Reminiscence Work and Dementia
Reminiscence work is an effective way of reaching people with
dementia. A link with the past encourages conversation, boosts selfesteem and offers support at times of change.
Booking Information
Memory Boxes and Photo Packs can be borrowed for up to 4 weeks
at a time and are free of charge to those working with the elderly in
Kirklees. See page 10 for more details.

Local History Photo Packs
Each pack contains 20 A4 sized photographs of local landmarks, a
DVD of images and information pack with trigger questions to stimulate conversation. Photo Packs are available for the following areas:

The Kirklees Image Archive
Our photographs have been sourced from the Kirklees Image Archive.
It has a large digital collection of photographs that date back to the
1900s, which are free to view at: www.kirkleesimages.org.uk

Booking Information
The Memory Boxes and Photo Packs may be borrowed for up to
4 weeks at a time. They are free of charge (with a returnable
deposit) to organisations working with the elderly in Kirklees.
To make a booking:
Contact Kirklees Museums & Galleries on 01484 223800.
The service is very popular so please book well in advance to
avoid disappointment.
Collection and return is the responsibility of the borrower.
On collection we require a returnable deposit:
Memory Boxes: £20.00 (Twenty pounds)
Photo Packs: £10.00 (Ten pounds)
[cheques are made payable to Kirklees Council]
Users are also required to sign a Loan Agreement Form.
On return your deposit will be returned.
If any items are missing or damaged an invoice will be issued to
cover the cost of replacement/s.
