Learn games you can play with items around the house to teach your toddler through play. We will have fun stations set up for caregivers and toddlers to explore together. All crafting supplies will be provided. All ages are welcome, but children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Tuesday, February 11th at 3:30 PM MAKE YOUR MARK: JOIN THE TAB A CALLING ALL OTAKU ttention all manga and anime fans: we have a club for YOU! The Manga Club meets once a month to talk manga, do manga related activities, and eat snacks! that manga has to offer. Whether you are hardcore manga fan or an absolute beginner, Manga Club is the place for you! The club is open for anyone 12-18 years old. Upcoming meetings will be on: Learn about new series, test your knowledge with trivia quizzes, make manga crafts for yourself and others, and debate endlessly and passionately about the best, coolest, and/or worst Beginning Birdwatching Greg Whittaker, president of the Galveston County Audubon Group, will give a presentation on how to get started birdwatching. Tuesday, March 4th at 2 PM Recipe Swap: How Do You Spruce Up Your Salads? Come join Reference Librarian, Kayla, and share your favorite ways of making your salads stupendous. We will provide the traditional salad ingredients, but you can feel free to bring any other ingredients you like to add to your own salads. You could also just bring your ideas to share with others. We welcome your creativity. Tuesday, March 18th at 2:00 PM a Poetry Open Mic Night The library would love to invite our creative patrons who compose poetry to come and share at least one poem with other creative and interested patrons. Scheer, a professor of Texas History at Lamar University, will host a program that looks at the role women played during the Texas Revolution. Teen Reads is a book club for anyone 1218 who wants to talk about and learn about books. If you want to find out what the next Hunger Games, Twilight, Fault in Our Stars, Crank, or other hot teen book is, then check us out. You can eat snacks, talk about your favorite (or least favorite) books, meet new people, and never run out of books to read again! E CHILDREN’S STORYTIMES ach week, the library offers two fun and free storytimes for children from ages 1-5. Storytimes help build early literacy and social skills that are important for future kindergarten success. Beginning January 7th, on Tuesdays at 10 AM the library will host Toddlerific Storytime for children from ages 1-3. Every week, there will be stories, songs, rhymes, bubble time, and play time. Storytime for ages 3-5.There will be stories, songs, alphabet learning, and a different fun and educational activity or craft. Three year olds can come to either of the storytimes. Both programs are held in the Walter Holland Meeting Room and are free and open to the public with no ticket or registration required. For the spring session, storytimes are every week January 7th-May 21st. Beginning January 8th, on Wednesdays at 10 AM the library will host Preschool Due to space limitations, day care groups can not be accommodated. O O Page 3 Improve Your Computer Skills ur computer classes are aimed at beginning to intermediate computer users. The library offers courses to help patrons learn basic skills using MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Email, the Internet, and more. This semester we are offering more advanced classes, so you can take your skills to the next level. All attendees will be pre-screened for skill level before each class. Please see Sign-up & Registration Procedure below for details. These will include a station to explore a huge pile of shredded paper, a station to build with lots of boxes, and a special station that will help your child explore their senses. Beyond the fun you have during the program, we also hope that you will take some ideas home of easy educational activities you can do together without needing to buy anything or spend much time getting it ready. Dr. Mary L. Scheer, a professor of Texas History at Lamar University, will host a program that examines the role of women during the Texas Revolution. Dr. Scheer will speak about women displaced by war, those who aided in the war, and how women’s lives were changed after the war. She will focus D Dr. Scheer wrote The Foundations of Texan Philanthropy, coedited Twentieth-Century Texas: A Social and Cultural History, and edited Women and the Texas Revolution. We think the best way to reward reading is with more reading, so any resident who participates at any level during these months will get a free large print book, generously donated by the Friends of Moore Public Library. Each month librarian Luke AlveyHenderson and our Public Service Assistant, Kristina Garza, visit 5 senior citizen living centers and the Nessler Center Senior Center Programs. We design our programs to engage seniors on topics of interest, direct interaction, and pl ay short games. We strive to provide entertainment, information, and mental stimulation for patrons who can’t physically visit us. You can learn about all your options in the government Marketplace and apply at healthcare.gov. With a Marketplace application, you can learn if you can get lower costs based on your income, compare your coverage options side-by-side, and enroll. Plans go into effect on January 1, 2014 and open enrollment ends on March 31, 2014, so now is the time to apply. After open enrollment ends on March 31, 2014, you won't be able to get health coverage through the Marketplace until the next annual enrollment period, unless you have a officially recognized “qualifying life event.” According to healthcare.gov, “If someone who can afford health insurance doesn’t have coverage in 2014, they may have to pay a fee.” There is a lot at stake, a lot of options to consider, and it can always be tricky to use a new website, so the library is here to help!
