Adult Book Discussion Group History of Morrow Schools Join a lively discussion group of book lovers and get in on the fun! Adults are welcome to sign up to attend monthly book discussions, which take place the first Tuesday evening of each month from 6:30-8:00 pm. The group discusses a different book each month, which can be picked up at the library. Interested participants can stop in to pick up the next book. Monday, March 7 7:00-8:00 pm For all of you local history buffs, Marlene DeBoard will present The History of Morrow Schools on Monday, March 7th from 7:00-8:00 pm. March 1: The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin When his most prized possession, a rare collection of Poe poems, is stolen, bookstore owner A.J. Fikry begins isolating himself from his friends, family, and associates before receiving a mysterious package that compels him to remake his life. April 5: A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson Back in America after twenty years in Britain, Bill Bryson decided to reacquaint himself with his native country by walking the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail, which stretches from Georgia to Maine. May 3: Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee Twenty years after the trial of Tom Robinson, Scout returns home to Maycomb to visit her father and struggles with personal and political issues as her small Alabama town adjusts to the turbulent events beginning to transform the United States in the mid-1950s. Writing Circle Meetings Calling all adults and high school students who are interested in writing! The library’s Writing Circle is a group that meets twice monthly on Saturdays from 10:30 am-12:00 pm here at the library to share their creative writing pieces. Prompts are decided by the group and sharing ideas is welcomed and encouraged. Free coffee is served at each meeting. Come in and check out her Graduates of Morrow High School series of books! (Pictures taken during Marlene’s previous presentation) Serpent Mound of Warren County Presented by Judy Evans Smith Did you know? The Warren County Serpent Mound was first discovered in 1839? It was thought to have been built by the Adena Indians about 2000 years ago? Only three other serpent mounds have been uncovered in the world: one each in Canada and Scotland, and the other, the Great Serpent Mound in Adams County, Ohio? Find out the location of this mound and many other interesting facts concerning the Serpent Mound of Warren County. The Revenant by Michael Punke The American West of the 1820s is a harsh and unforgiving place, something that experienced trapper and frontiersman Hugh Glass knows all too well. After narrowly surviving an attack by a grizzly bear, Glass is robbed and abandoned by the two men in his company who were charged with watching over him. Left defenseless with life-threatening injuries, Glass channels his need for revenge into a will to live. He survives on his rage, along with his knowledge of edible plants, ingenuity, and a good sense of geography in a largely unmapped land. Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight Kate Baron, a single mother and partner at a Manhattan law firm, is astonished to get a phone call about the suspension of her 15-year-old daughter, Amelia, previously an excellent student at a prestigious Brooklyn private school. But by the time Kate arrives at the school to pick her up, Amelia is dead in a fall from the roof. While the police investigation rules Amelia's death a suicide, Kate soon receives an anonymous text saying that Amanda didn't jump. Whistling Through the Graveyard by Sarah Crandall In the summer of 1963, nine-year-old spitfire Starla Claudelle runs away from her strict grandmother's Mississippi home. Escape by Barbara Delinsky Languishing in her career as a business lawyer after relinquishing her dream to defend victims of corporate abuse, Emily Aulenbach impulsively abandons her husband and returns to a New Hampshire town where she spent a watershed college summer. Painful as it is to return, she knows that if she is to right her life, she has to start here. If you have a book that you have enjoyed reading, please share it with us and other readers! Preparing for college can be strenuous at times and having to take entrance exams can add to the pressure you’re feeling. A systematic, commonsense approach to preparing for and taking these exams, however, will ensure that you get accepted to the colleges you have selected. Local resident Bob Heyob will take us on his journey from an animal rescuer to running Horsefeathers Farm, an approved wallaby breeding facility for the Cincinnati Zoo located in Clarksville, Ohio. He will also bring his adorable “down under” friends to help promote an appreciation of this endangered member of the kangaroo clan. Wanda Wallaby Finds Her Bounce by Jonathan Emmett Wanda Wallaby has lost her bounce. Try as she might, she can't find it. She asks all her fellow animals but no one can help. Until, that is, she meets the crocodile - whose advice has a remarkable effect on the innocent wallaby, Wanda! UNIQUE!
