Every summer great musicians from around the world meet up in Mammoth Lakes to celebrate nature
with inspired performances of cherished masterpieces, old and new, in eight concerts at Cerro Coso College.
The Felici Piano Trio &
18 Distinguished Guests
July 13 - 29
2016
In “Bass Camp”, Oscar Hidalgo’s velvety low frequencies supply
a sonorous cushion to works by the fiery lady composer Louise
Farrenc and the cheerful Czech, Antonin Dvořák.
Crossing “T he River Wild ” is a foray into Romantic chamber
music of untamed intensity by Tchaikovsky and Dohnanyi.
Tedeschi’s gently cascading Suite, in the delicate hands of harpist
Kyunghee Kim-Sutre, smoothes the torrents…
“Roughing It ”features two delightful string octets by Dmitry
Shostakovich and Joachim Raff. Avid hiker Johannes Brahms
expresses his love for the Alpine regions in his Cello Sonata,
passionately interpreted by Mark Kosower and Jee-Won Oh.

The ever-adventurous 2LA (a.k.a. Thula Ngwenyama) leads us to
some hidden “Sierra Secrets ”unearthing amongst treasures of
the past by Turina and Brahms a brand new composition of her
own making: “Above the West”.

Venturing “Into the Woods ”, we shine a light through the
thicket of Mozart’s String Quintet in C Minor and the distinguished Victorian composer Edward Elgar bares his soul.
Contemporary composer/author Lera Auerbach explores new
creative paths in her Piano Trio.
We will say good-bye on Friday, July 29th,
with “Sunset Songs”, a program of
some of the best classical
music has to offer, with Igor
Stravinsky’s charming Suite
Italienne, Beethoven’s String
Trio opus 9, and Dvořák’s
immortal Piano Quintet.

Ernst Toch was “Playing with Fire ”when his Geographical
Fugue was first performed in 1930… Our tongue-in-cheek
version pays tribute to beloved Eastern Sierra localities! Josef
Suk’s first work and Franz Schubert’s last, the Quintet in C
Major, carry the torch of enlightenment and hope.
World-renowned violinists Corey Cerovsek and Guillaume Sutre
are amongst our “Trail Blazers”on the opening night gala
concert, performing works by such innovators as Beethoven,
Strauss and Schumann.
Looking forward to seeing yo u this summer!
