Captured A Celebration of the Photograph Captured Edited, Produced and Published by: Gallery Different Paper Arts and Cre8it.com Santa Fe, New Mexico Contact: [email protected] Volume 3 -Spring,2008 Thank You To my wonderful photography students for lending their amazing images (and words) to this publication. Editor As the images and experiences of the months of March and April coalecsed into a “Spring” issue, my “feeling” for Spring evolved in ways unexpected. Our most familiar images of the season are of new shoots and flowers being reborn out of melting snow, and birds returning to feeders where they have been sorely missed. Copyright Captured, © March/April, 2008, Jessica Wesolek and Cre8it.com All photographs and writings herein are protected by their creator’s copyright, and may not be reproduced or used in any way without permission. If the photograph is available as a print, notecard, or stock image, it will be noted on that page along with the creator’s contact information, and we encourage your support of these artists. In all of that glory, we often fail to notice the truly beautiful closing acts of the waning Winter. Whole worlds are reflected in puddles of mud, and snowbanks present a changing show of sculpture as they disappear into those puddles. WInds carry seeds to places they have never been. For reasons as varied as Spring flowers, we were guided to combine these two months into one Spring issue, and in the process, greatly expanded our appreciation of this sweet transitional season. Jessica Wesolek Editor and Publisher Harbingers . . . Welcome, wild harbinger of spring! To this small nook of earth; Feeling and fancy fondly cling, Round thoughts which owe their birth, To thee, and to the humble spot, Where chance has fixed thy lowly lot. ~ Bernard Barton © 2008, Photo Credits, Left to Right: Dorothy Gibbs, UK/ Bev Wauer,MA/ Shelley Sisson/OR © 2008 Ann Paine, Flimwell, East Sussex, UK Nikon D300 F/11, 1/800, ISO 400, 105mm, Aperture Priority The miracles of nature do not seem miracles because they are so common. I was a bud - so eager to BE! Then I was a leaf on a vibrant tree. I took my bows when the cold winds blew, Then fell to earth in a carpet new. I yearned to soar with the wind so free But a blade of grass soon captured me. I’m anchored here, a part of the earth. What should I choose for my rebirth? For once again, I’m eager to BE! Perhaps this time, I’ll be the tree. To Be ©: 2008, Gloria Dirla, Bay City, Michigan A Question of Balance . . . and he saw the tree above him, and the stars, And the veins in the leaf, And the light, and the balance.
