Vintage Wisconsin from the lakeshore to dairy farms!
Kewaunee County is nestled on the beautiful shore of
Lake Michigan at the base of the Door Peninsula and
a short drive east of Green Bay, WI. The exceptional
location offers visitors endless opportunities to enjoy
outdoor adventures, sample unique culinary heritage
and explore a bit of Wisconsin history!
No matter the season, Kewaunee County offers a little
piece of heaven on earth! If Mother Nature is calling,
Kewaunee County will answer. With a seemingly endless shoreline along Lake Michigan, Kewaunee County
offers two stunning beaches.Visitors can take a sunset
stroll along Kewaunee Beach or join a game of beach
volleyball on Crescent Beach in Algoma. For those just
interested in soaking up some rays, either of Kewaunee
County’s beaches will fit the mold.
Visitors that prefer an inland adventure may wish to
explore Kewaunee County’s single-track mountain
bike trails. The county boasts over ten miles of bike
trails that meander through rolling hills and meadows.
For a bit of regional scenery, ride or hike on over to
the Ahnapee State Trail which spans thirty-two miles
between Kewaunee and Door Counties. Snowbirds
may prefer a little tubing at the county’s famous Winter Tubing Hill or perhaps a snowmobile ride on the
county’s 295 miles of trails.
For the visitor that seeks a quiet adventure, a glimpse
into Kewaunee County’s past is sure to satisfy. Kewaunee County is home to Wisconsin’s oldest winery.
Located in the City of Algoma, von Stiehl Winery was
formerly known as the Ahnapee Brewery and built
shortly after the Civil War. Just down the street guests
will find Hotel Stebbins, which has served the City
of Algoma since the mid 1800’s. Originally known as
the Ahnapee House, Hotel Stebbins has only changed
owners five times in the past 100 years.
The City of Kewaunee also offers overnight visitors a
chance to experience a piece of history when then stay
or visit the Kewaunee Inn. The Inn has been in operation since the mid 1800’s. Although the Inn has been
updated, the past surrounds guest with the antique
décor. The Inn has even been rumored to be haunted
by the spirits of the original owners.
With all the activities Kewaunee County has to offer,
visitors are sure to work up an appetite. Kewaunee
County is home to prized cheese makers and two
award-winning wineries. Paralell 44 Vineyard & Winery
and von Stiehl Winery produce high quality wine with
local, fertile soil. Both wineries offer an exceptional
tasting experience with a unique story. After whetting their palettes in the lush meadows of Kewaunee
County Wine & Cheese Country, visitors will want to
top off their dining experience at one of local eateries
which highlight the area’s diverse culinary heritage.

Ecotourism in Kewaunee County:
Kewaunee County boasts a “green” and healthy lifestyle. As an environmental steward, the county promotes
maintaining the integrity of its rural countryside and
natural resources through the support of “green” projects.
Kewaunee County is home to over 30 commercial wind
turbines which provide power to over 7,000 homes.
Kewaunee County closes the loop on energy independence by serving as home to Dominion Energy - one
of the largest power companies in the nation, and operator of the Kewaunee Nuclear Plant.
The county also features green energy in agriculture as
one of the state’s first anaerobic digesters powered up in
2009 at Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy. The digester converts
biogas into power. The current digester has 800 kW
generating capacity, with plans to expand in the future.

Kewaunee County Area Barn Quilts:
Visit & enjoy the custom designed and painted barn
quilts in the Kewaunee County Area. Over 100, 4-H
and FFA students from throughout the community
worked with the owners of eighteen local barns and
displayed the custom quilts in 2009.

Kermisses - Yes, Kermisses:
Kermisses have Deep Root in Kewaunee CountyFrom Green Bay to Kewaunee and Door Counties,
Belgian heritage is prevalent. Even 150 years after their
first ancestors settled here, influence of ethnic customs
and cuisine remain strong.
Locals are particularly proud of their Belgian “Kermiss” Festivals. Kermiss, which literally means church
mass. The Kermiss is a celebration of Belgian culinary
heritage including Belgian pie, chicken Booyah, Jute
(boiled cabbage) and Tripes (pork sausage).

Wet Whistle Wine Fest:
Hosted by Algoma’s Main Street program, the Wine
Fest is a celebration of Wisconsin’s oldest winery and
showcases award-wining wine, food and the fine arts.
And, if that isn’t enough to whet your whistle and
appetite, the festival also showcases a culinary extravaganza at the Farm Market Kitchen.
