Men’s Varsity Soccer Stomps DeSales 6-0
In a big annual rivalry game, the CAL Men’s Varsity Soccer
team stomped the DeSales Colts, 6-0, in its last home game
of the regular season. The Centurions started off on the attack right away, with Noah Wilcox, Tyler Green and Jackson Donovan on the fr ont line, suppor ted by mid-fielders
Asher Benge, Brad Hickman, Seth Yeoman, and Nathan
Shepherd. CAL had sever al thr eatening shots on the DeSales goal and minimal activity on the defensive end.

A #6 Ranking, Despite a Humbling Week!
When the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association
published its October 8th poll,

Centurions

Valkyries are ranked #1 in
the state and #12 in the country.

Friday started with the annual Beat DeSales chili cook off and the
students setting up in the senior parking lot to welcome the DeSales
players and fans.
The entire student section continued the tradition of walking as a group into the
stadium with the cheerleaders and the band, The students were dressed in pink
to honor Breast Cancer and took over the stadium like a big pink cloud letting
everyone know who has the Best Student section.
Michaela Arnold followed the prayer with an inspiring rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner and in honor of
her late Aunt.
DeSales won the toss and elected to receive the Ball. Eric Quinton
kicked off and Cade Sparrow, Anthony Palambino and John Harvie
made the first tackles of the night. Both teams struggled in the first
half trading punts.
The Centurions had 77 yards of offense in the first half and held DeSales to 64 total yards. The first half ended with the score 0 to 0.
Everyone had the feeling that a big play was going to be the difference maker in this game.
Half time kicked off with Ms. Whitney Lyon leading the 2015 Marching Centurions onto the field to perform
”This is Our Story”.
CAL received the second half kickoff and moved the ball 19 yards before
Quintin had to punt. The punt gave the Colts the ball on their own 34
yard line. Two plans later on 3rd and 9, Austin Johnson’s pass was intercepted by Clay Davis and returned 32 yards to the DeSales 9 yard line.
Four plays later, Austin Carr handed the ball to Milton Wright on the
sweep from left to right who pulled up and found Davis for a 2 yard
touchdown. CAL 7– DeSales 0.
Following the Quinton kick off, DeSales turned the ball over on
downs after 9 plays. Carr and the offense moved the ball 52 yards
in nine plays with the big-play being a 32 yard pass from Carr to
Cal Lewellyn. On fourth and two from the 14 Eric Quinten connected on the 31 yard field goal. CAL 10- DeSales 0.

The two teams traded punts of the next two possessions with
the Colts taking over at the Centurions’ 45 yard line determined to cut into the lead. The Colts moved the ball 43 yards in 8
plays. With a first and goal from the 12 Austin Johnson attempted to
throw the ball in the end zone. Milton stretched out and intercepted the
ball two yards deep in the end zone. Wright followed several of his
teammates to mid field were he then broke out scoring a 102 yard
Touchdown. Wright is only the 34th player in Kentucky State history with 100+ yard touchdown.
DeSales had one more possession that ended with Cade Sparrow intercepting
the Alec Brothers pass.

However it wasn’t until 17 minutes into the game that the ball found the back of the net, kicked in
by Wilcox with an assist by Yeoman. Yeoman followed up minutes later with a great shot that
went just wide of the goal. Wilcox answered again, at 21 minutes into the game, pounding a hard shot past
the DeSales keeper into the goal from outside the 18. Again, Yeoman had the assist. Green kept the momentum going, when he headed a ball kicked into the box by Chandler Anderson on the wing. The ball flew into
the goal, but the referee made an off-sides call, so the score remained 2-0.
The last four minutes of the first half saw a lot of action for the Centurions, beginning with a goal by Daniel
Lee, who knocked the ball in after Eric Quinton headed it towar d the goal. Thir ty seconds later , Wilcox sealed his hat tr ick for the game when he knocked the ball in with an assist fr om Larkin Mann,
putting CAL ahead 4-0. Wilcox wasn’t finished, however, he quickly scored another goal, assisted again by
Mann. And in the final seconds, Wilcox cur ved the ball into the net dir ectly fr om a cor ner kick, giving
CAL a comfortable 6-0 lead, and tallying 5 goals to his name for this game.
During the second half, the rest of the CAL team had the opportunity to contribute to the game. Jake Bennett, Sawyer Skarski, Jackson Donovan set forth a solid offensive attack with sever al shots but no
goals. Justin Montgomery, Caleb Anderson, Alex Tran, and Christian Kornegay distr ibuted the ball
well in the middle. Lee, Mann and Derek Holland and keeper Matthew Andres defended the goal solidly and
maintained CAL’s 6-0 shut-out victory.
The coaches’ Warrior Award, given at every game to a noteworthy and deserving player, was awarded on
this night to the enthusiastic student fans who cheered the Centurions on to this important victory heading
into post-season district tournament play. Thanks CAL students, families, and other fans for your consistent
and energetic support! Come support the Men’s Varsity team on Tues., Oct. 13, as they face district rival
Ballard, at 7:30 p.m. at Ballard.

CAL 3 vs. COLLINS 1
Monday, October 5, 2015
CAL travelled to Shelbyville to play Collins HS. Collins scored first just 90 seconds into the game but 15
minutes later Noah evened the score. However with a few minutes left in first half Collins scored to make it 2
-1.
CAL increased intensity the second half but it wasn't enough as Collins scored last second goal to win 3-1.

CAL traveled to Iroquois for a mid week game. Iroquois surprisingly jumped out to a 1-0 lead however Noah, Tyler and Justin Montgomery saw to Cal going into the half up 3-1. Jackson and Noah added second half
goals to make the final 5-2.

After recognizing its four seniors at their last home game for
Senior Night, the CAL offense went to work, taking a whopping 58 shots on goal with 24 corner penalty shots. Minimal defense
was required, with no saves needed
and no defensive corner shots.
Taylor Curran had four goals,
Jacqueline Wilkins scored three,
and Allie Grace Joyner and Sarah
Young each scored one. Claire
Thomas had two assists, with Young, Katie Jenkins, Curran, Laurel
Dortch and Alex Hill all having one each. A 9-0 win was a perfect way
for the seniors to celebrate their last home game at CAL.
On Thursday the Centurions traveled to Collegiate's field to take on the
Amazons. Lots of back and forth offense made for a tough battle and goals
by Jamie Wright and Allie Grace Joyner put CAL on the board. The Amazons answered back with two of their own and at the end of the first half the
scored was tied at 2-2. Despite its best efforts, CAL couldn't pull ahead before the end of regulation time, and an overtime period ensued. Sam
Minrath was in the goal for the Centurions and in a 1 v 1 scenario had a dive stick save, a sweep out and brought
the ball down. Jacqueline Wilkins was
successful in her shot attempt, slamming in a goal for the win. While the
Centurions had preferred to win without going into overtime, the team
was happy to take home the victory.
CAL has their last regular season game next week against Presentation
before heading into the regional tournament as the number one seed.

Coming out with great confidence in game one, CAL tied the
score at every point up to 14, but then fell off toward the end allowing the Valkyries to take the win. CAL again stayed point-topoint with Sacred Heart in game two with ties at 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, took
a small lead up to 18, then tied again at 18, 20, 21, 23, and 24.
Undoubtedly, this game could have gone either way. In fact, the
last two points made by the Valkyries came from deflecting off
CAL’s strong blocking. Game three started off close again all the
way two 18-19, but CAL could not quite pull it off, losing the
match 25-18. Every member of the team put their heart in soul in
this match, and should take great pride in how very well they played against this staunch
competitor (19-25, 24-26, 18-25).
Unfortunately, an uncharacteristically weak match occurred Thursday night on the road at North Oldham. Perhaps still recovering from Tuesday, the team did not play
its best. CAL let the Mustangs build an early lead in
game one, 4-11, clawed their way back to a tie at 15, then
dropped off at the end for a loss. In game two, North led
most of the way, but CAL pulled within three toward the
end. Despite three great clutch serves by Hannah Wilhite
that brought the score to 23-24, North won it by two. Things looked more
promising in game 3 as CAL took the early lead to 11s, but could not sustain as the Mustangs made 6 points
in a row. CAL fell in a disappointing loss (20-25, 24-26, 17-25).
A busy and bittersweet week lies ahead for
the senior six-pack. Presentation will visit for
the annual “pink out” on Monday night.

Tuesday against Butler, and a road trip to Holy Cross completes the regular season on
Thursday.

dedicated to her sport for many years. We have missed her sweet smile at practices and

CAL WINS BIG ON SENIOR NIGHT!
CAL 3 Mercy 1
The weather was perfect for Tuesday’s Senior Night festivities and game against Mercy. The careers
of Allie Blackburn, Jessica Bozell, Sarah Embry, Laura English, Lily Evans, Haleigh Fortuna, Liana
Forwith, Maddy Hawes, Dana Joss, Kim Riddett and Saxby Spencer were celebrated prior to the
game. Congratulations to all these girls!
After the pictures were taken and the tears dried it was time to get down to business. Game time against
Mercy meant a payback opportunity for an earlier season loss to them in the Bulldog Cup. Right from the
outset CAL showed they were focused and ready to make a statement. Two minutes into the game Haleigh
Fortuna hit a rocket shot from 30 yards that just missed over the crossbar. At 35:00 Laura English just
missed a long free kick over the crossbar as well. Maura Bennett connected on a header off a corner that
went just wide a minute later. At 32:09 Haleigh took a pass from the back, cut to her left and hammered a
30 yard shot over the goalie and into the net to put CAL up at 1-0, and give them a lead they would not relinquish. After a great save by Emily Gates at the 29:42 mark, CAL dominated possession the balance of the
first half with skilled dribbling and passing in the midfield by Liana Forwith and Olivia Warren. Ellen
Joss delighted the crowd with a variety of nifty moves up the left sideline, faking out Mercy defenders time
after time. The L&M center backs (Laura and Maura) played str ong against some ver y physical Mer cy
forwards. Clair Ashley and Kim Riddett turned back every Mercy run down the left side of the field. Allie
Blackburn’s hustle up and down the right side paid off later in the game. Dana Joss twisted and turned with
the ball, shaking loose of defenders and serving numerous crosses for shots by Anna Pohlman, Haleigh and Olivia. Halftime score was CAL 1 Mercy 0.
CAL started the second half just as strong as the first. At 37:13 Anna Pohlman received a perfect assistpass from Dana in the box, spun ar ound, faked a shot that sent the goalie flying to the gr ound, and then
popped the ball into the wide open goal to put CAL ahead 2-0! SWEET MOVE!!! Emily Gates made another awesome save at 35:40 to preserve the two goal lead. Play was back and forth the next 15-20 minutes
in very physical action. At 18:11, Haleigh barely missed another goal on a long free kick. With 9:36 left,
Mercy scored to make it 2-1. But, CAL dominated after that point, pressuring Mercy with run after run leading to shot after shot. As the clock wound down, and with just half a minute to go, Haleigh sent a pass wide
right to a streaking Allie Blackburn who absolutely creamed a right-foot strike past Mercy’s goalie into the
far side net to make the final score 3-1 CAL! It was a fantastic game and an unforgettable memory for eleven well-deserving CAL soccer seniors.
CAL pressed the attack and came up with several opportunities at the end of the game including a nice shot
by Anna Pohlman which was diverted by a very nice save from the SO goalie. A strong rotation of Allie
Blackburn, Sarah Embry, and Lily Evans continued to ser ve cr osses into the box, which kept South
Oldham on their heels, but CAL was unable to capitalize.

CAL FALLS JUST SHORT AGAINST DEFENDING STATE CHAMPS
CAL 1 South Oldham 3
In a very hard fought game against the defending State Champs, the Lady Centurions fell just short. The varsity girls gave a very good effort and never backed down against a technically sound and physical opponent.
In the early going the teams were very evenly matched. CAL had several thru balls that were just long to
Haleigh Fortuna to keep steady pr essur e on the Dr agon defense. South Oldham countered with runs of
their own which were repeatedly shut down by a very stout defense. Laura English stepped in many times to
kill the South Oldham attack and Maura Bennett made several hard tackles to thwart the South Oldham pressure. The teams also traded several corner kicks but both defenses stepped up to clear the threats.
At the 17:21 mark South Oldham hit a shot from 25 yards out which was nicely placed and found the back of
the net for a 1-0 SO lead. South Oldham stepped up the pressure and created several good opportunities but
again the defense stepped up with Ellen Joss and Clair Ashley both stopping South Oldham attacks on the
wing. CAL regained the momentum and beginning at the 6:22 mark CAL had several strong shots by
Haleigh Fortuna which were saved by the SO goalie. The half ended in a 1-0 lead for the Dragons.
In the 2nd half South Oldham really pressed the attack leaving only 3 defenders back and moving 7 forward. Several nice stops were made by the midfield including Liana Forwith and Olivia Warren. Laura,
Clair , Ellen and Maura continued to hold the line and Emily Gates in goal repeatedly came out to stop SO
runs. At the 32:22 mark Gates stopped a rocket with a great save. At the 30:20 mark Laura English stepped
in front of a pass and fed the ball to Fortuna who hit a perfect 25 yard shot over the SO goalie to tie the
score!
The play went back and forth for quite some time but at the 13:37 mark the Dragons controlled a ball out
wide which was strongly challenged by CAL but SO managed to hit a long shot for a 2-1 lead. At the 10:22
mark, South Oldham made a nice cross which was quickly one touched into the goal for a 3-1 lead.
The Christian Academy girls never gave up and showed a fierce determination to the end of the game. It was
a very good effort with a lot of heart and hustle. The Lady Centurions will begin Districts this Tuesday
against Ballard (looking for redemption from an earlier season loss) at 5:30 on the Eastern High School campus and should feel confident as they start tournament play! Come out and support them!!!

ANOTHER SWEEP FOR LYNCH & O’DEA
This weekend the CAL cross country team competed at the South Oldham Dragon Invitational. Leading the boys was Steven Ott, finishing
with an outstanding time of 17:26, a new personal record. Ott has continually led the team this season as a sophomore and has broken 18 almost every race. This
season is looking bright
for him as the team competes in Lexington next
weekend. Finishing next
for the boys was Charles Austin Sams, Sam Hazelip, Brendan
Sullivan and Jack-Herold Enyeart. The boys ran in a pack with
junior Clara Lynch, as they neared the finish, Charles Austin
sprinted ahead, finishing second for CAL and a new personal
record of 19:20. Jared Johnson and Jacob Miller came in soon
after with PR’s as well as John Patterson who had an amazing
finish! The boys placed fourth overall as a team and will be in
Lexington next weekend for Lexington Catholic Invitational.

varsity and JV girls setting new personal records! Clara Lynch
(19:27) and Maddie
O’Dea (19:41) led the
pack coming in first and
second. Maddie went out
very strong, leading the pack for the first half of the race.
Maddie is also known for her killer kick to the finish, passing
two South Oldham runners. Next was Jessica Wellum with a
PR of 23:15. Jessica, Taylor Moon, and Libby Gould have all
improved every race this season. Taylor and Libby also PR’ed
once again racing to the finish line, coming in 25th and 28th for
the girls varsity. The JV runners also had amazing races full of
personal records and
new levels of success. Kilie Morgan,
Audrey Wright, Lauren Robinson, Kate
Sitlinger, Ana Mort,
and Elizabeth Patterson pulled out amazing races, bringing home a third place trophy as
well. It was a phenomenal weekend for both the girls and boys
teams as many trophies were brought home and new records were

THE NEW FACE(S) OR CENTURION LACROSSE
The leaves may be just beginning to turn their autumn colors and the days may still be growing shorter, but the Centurion lacrosse program is already looking toward spring with great anticipation.
Many players continue to condition and hone their skills, taking part in fall lacrosse leagues and preparing for indoor sessions leading up to pre-season practices beginning in February.
Coach Phil Brock and Athletic Director Brad Morgan have also been very busy during this past offseason identifying three new coaches to head up varsity lacrosse for the 2016 spring season.
Trevor Timmerberg, Steve Soriano and Sean Joyce have recently joined the Christian Academy lacrosse family and will work together to prepare and coach the current crop of varsity players.
Trevor, Steve and Sean each played for Bellarmine University’s Division I lacrosse team. Together they bring varied and considerable experience as players and coaches.
This week, and for the next two weeks, I will introduce you to one of our three new coaches each week.
Steve Soriano grew up in Readington, New J ersey about an hour south of New York City. He attended Hunterdon Central Regional High School where he played varsity lacrosse three of his four years and was selected Captain his senior season.
While at Hunterdon, Steve was part of a New Jersey state championship team his sophomore year and reached the state playoffs
his junior and senior seasons.
At Bellarmine, Steve contributed as a face-off midfielder and played all four years. During his college career he saw action in 41
games… starting as a junior and senior. As one of his fondest memories, Steve scored the winning overtime goal against High
Point University on Senior Night his senior year.
Having earned his Business Administration degree, he currently works for U.S. Energy Services as an account analyst.
He continues to be active as a player, playing in adult men’s leagues and in summer lacrosse tournaments regionally and nationally. In addition to having coached various teams and providing individual instruction, Steve most recently served one year as an
Assistant Varsity Coach at Trinity High School and coached club lacrosse for Bluegrass Lacrosse Club… now Titanium Lacrosse
Club.
Steve says, “My coaching philosophies have been shaped from playing under many great coaches in the lacrosse world, Bellarmine’s former Head Coach, Jack McGetrick and dominant New Jersey high school coaches Mike Vergalito, Tom Bill and Chuck
Apel.”
He added, “I am excited to work with the CAL program and take it to the next level. I believe in the power of positive thinking. It is going to require players to believe in the systems and each other.”
In 2011 Steve took part in a mission trip to Jinja, Uganda, working with Amazima
Ministries. He described the trip as a “very humbling, spiritual experience” and
looks forward to the opportunity return in the future.
If you see Steve around campus, please wish him a warm welcome to the Christian

#IMPACT
Long time since our last update and it’s for a good reason…we have been busy doing work! Since we
started back to school in August, we have been running two to three session a day. Our morning sessions
have been amazing and the boys/girls basketball and cheer team have been wonderful to work with. In the
afternoons we have been working with the baseball, softball, girls’ basketball and out track throwers who are
all getting ready for their up-coming seasons. Watch out for the baseball program the next few years…They
have had an average of 23 athletes training 4x a week! We have also been spending our Wednesday afternoons working with the Fall Sports teams from the Boys Soccer and Field Hockey programs. The work that
they have been putting in has helped them see a dramatic decrease in injuries this season.
So very proud of all the student athletes that make the extra sacrifice to train and get better, not just
for themselves but to make their teams better. Participating in the Sports Performance Program is not only
making them a better athlete its making them a better teammate and leader on and off the field/court.

The CAL JV volleyball team had 2 big matches this week, one on Tuesday
against our sister school Christian Academy of Indiana and the other on
Thursday against a much stronger than usual opponent in Collins. On
Tuesday the Christian Academy JV team started out strong and played
strong all the way through with unforced errors kept to a minimum and
some extra hustle plays throughout the match. Solid passing from defense
(Macey Sloss, Rachel Woodward, Lucy Gilbert ), led by Isabel Clem’s
setting to the offense (Summer Frazee, Gracie Shadburne, Emily Amin,
Maddie Lewis, Olivia Altsman, Oliva Curran) kept Chr istian Academy of Louisville in control of the game and in the lead to an easy 2 set
victory for our Lady Centurions! On Thursday the JV Lady Centurions
faced a much improved Collins team from years past. The match started
with a fast paced offense from the middle from Collins which took the
CAL team by surprise. The CAL JV team stayed aggressive at the net to
keep the first set tight all the way through. But the scrappy play of Collins made it difficult for CAL
to finish points quickly leading to long rallies and some exciting volleyball to watch for the CAL fans.
Although the CAL JV team played well, Collins came out on top in the first set 18-21. Not giving in
easily, CAL came out strong in the second set with some well placed left handed hits from the right
side by Hannah Young. Isabel Clem was able to move the ball around well to the outsides Emily
Amin and Maddie Lewis for some kills and some well placed tips. The middle blocker s (Gracie
Shadburne and Summer Frazee) star ted keying in on some of Collins’ middle attacks which helped CAL secure the 2nd set victory. In the
3rd and final set, the scrappy play of the back row (Lucy Gilbert, Rachel
Woodward, Macey Sloss, Emily Amin, Maddie Lewis) kept the r allies
long and athletic. Isabel Clem continued her consistent setting with some
faster sets to the hitters proving to be effective for some kills. However,
despite the great effort by the CAL JV team, the Centurions fell short with
an 18-21 loss in the 3rd set.
Shout out to the CAL Freshman Volleyball Team (Olivia Altsman,
Emily Amin, Isabel Clem, Olivia Curran, Lucy Gilbert, Maddie Lewis, Gracie Shadburne and Rachel Woodward) for a great season and a
strong finish with a 3 set win against the very tough North Oldham
volleyball team on Thursday October 8th at North Oldham! Thanks
Coach Bill Smith for a fun season.
The CAL JV volleyball was not so fortunate facing 2 very strong teams
this week in Sacred Heart, whose Varsity program is currently ranked #1 in the state and a very tough
North Oldham squad. Although the Sacred Heart match was well played by both teams with some
nice rallies and competitive points showing that CAL can definitely play some higher level, faster
paced volleyball the CAL team lost in 2 sets. On Thursday the JV team couldn’t quite pull off a win
against the North Oldham JV team with a 21-9, 21-12 match loss. Please come out to see the JV team
in action and to cheer them on to a big week of wins this week in their final week of play at home on
Monday, Oct.12th and Tuesday, Oct 13th or at Holy Cross on Thursday Oct, 15th .

This past week was the last of our regular season
play and the Lady Centurions delivered in a big
way! Tuesday afternoon the Lady Centurions
hosted the North Oldham Mustangs. Our offense
was on fire as most of the game was played on the
Mustangs end of the field. The Lady Centurion offense had 24 shots on goal
and six corners. Mac Mellen had her first ever hat trick scoring three of the
four goals, one of which was a penalty shot that was placed low in the left corner of the goal. Izzy Lytle also put a point on the board with solid shot in the
goal. The defense had some action during this game but with Sam Minrath
only having two saves it shows this was primarily an offensive game for the
Centurions. The game ended with CAL winning with a score of 4-0.
Thursday had the ladies traveling to Collegiate for an early afternoon game.
This game was all offense and most of the offensive line either put a point on
the board or had an assist. The Lady Centurions were not going to let up during this match and the game ended with us mercy ruling Collegiate with a score
of 10-0. The Centurions feel well prepared for the pumpkin tournament that
starts Monday, October 12, 2015 and the ladies first opponent will be Collegiate. The team is hoping for another solid win against this formidable opponent; however, no team should
ever be underestimated until the final buzzer sounds.

took on KCD on Tuesday
evening in the Semi-final
game of the City Tournament. CAL took an early
lead and kept the goals coming throughout the game. Goals were
scored by Mollie Moses and Abby Lala with Claudia Thomas adding two of her own to make the final score 4-0 CAL. Assists were
made by Becca Kline and Claudia Thomas. The girls will take on
Meyzeek Middle school to defend their title on Wednesday evening
at 5:30 at Ballard High school. CAL 8th grade girls will play immediately after in their championship game. Come out and support
CAL field hockey and cheer both these teams on to VICTORY!!

Southeast Missouri State Redhawks
Chad Meredith matched a career-high 10 tackles, added
two tackles for loss and posted three quarterback hurries
in a 27-10 victory over the Murray State Racers. He
helped key a defensive unit that held the high-octane
MSU offense to just one touchdown. He made one of the
most important defensive plays of the game when he
tackled Racers receiver Jeremy Harness for a 10-yard
loss on a reverse attempt on fourth down with 5 minutes,
17 seconds remaining. It was one of three fourth-down
stops for Redhawks.

CAL vs. OLDHAM CO.
The Scrambling Tennis Centurions brought their A game in a close rematch with Oldham County Middle
School. Several very close matches—including the final doubles match which was the one to decide the outcome for the whole team! The Centurions prevailed by a single point 8-7 and emerged with a victory for the
day.

CAL vs. SOUTH OLDHAM
On a beautiful, perfect Fall afternoon under the watchful eye of their number one fan (Larry Wooldridge) the
Scrambling Centurions faced the talent heavy South Oldham team on Tuesday afternoon. The Centurions
bolted to an early lead and never let up, winning by a decisive 7 matches to one! Great job once again Team.

Winning in Doubles: Paul Hughes/Landon Wence, Drew Kilner/John Sabbak, Jaren Underwood/Piper

8TH GRADE FOOTBALL WINS FIRST PLAYOFF GAME
On Saturday the 8th grade football team had their first playoff game in
Region 3 of the Kentucky Middle School Football Association Division
3 State Playoffs. Entering the tournament as a #2 seed, the Centurions
faced Lexington Christian Academy and took to the field focused and
ready to win and advance.
After a scoreless first quarter, an interception by Jacob Sutherland set up
a handoff from Grant Russell to Harrison Zimmerer that resulted in
CAL’s first 6 points. On CAL’s next possession Zimmerer ran in another
score and Russell’s pass to Luke Leeper was good for an additional two
points. Before the end of the first half Leeper caught a 60 yard pass from
Russell, and then caught Russell’s pass for the extra two points, putting
the score at 22-0.
LCA’s offense had no traction against the defensive efforts of Jake Taylor, Brandt Babin, Anthony Sabatino, John Young, Austin Coleman and
Henry Fetter. Russell’s pass to Sabatino in the third quarter put the
score at 28-0, and after an incredible run by Zimmerer to the 1 yard line,
Russell punched the ball in with 20 seconds left in the game. CAL left
the field victorious with a 34-0 win, and one step closer to a state championship. GO CAL!

The 5th/6th Centurions took on the St. Stephen's bulldogs on Saturday. Quarterback Ben
Strong led the offense effort. The Centurions had great blocks from the offensive line.
Touchdowns were made by Conner Carr, Caleb Thompson, Gavin Willis, McKade Battcher, and Robert
Ehrenborg. Extra points were made by Baylor Hill, Ben Strong, Camden Peters, Caleb Thompson, and
Conner Carr.
Notable yards gained by Adam Ballard, Caleb Thompson, Camden Peters,
Conner Carr, Eli Thompson, Gavin Willis, Isaac Patrick, McKade Battcher,
and Robert Ehrenborg.
Andrew Dupps recovered a Bulldog fumble to put the Centurions in
good scoring position.
The defense held the Bulldogs to 6 points. The defense was led by
tackles from Aiden Hornback, Andrew Dupps, Baylor Hill, Conner
Carr, Christian Walker, Dylan Schwartz, Jacob Price and Matthew
Mauzy. The Centurions were victorious 37-6.
On Tuesday, the Centurions challenged the Fern Creek Tigers. The
team was led by quarterback Baylor Hill. The team had touchdowns by Eli Thompson and Camden Peters. Extra points were
made by Dylan Schwartz and Luke Snowden. Isaac Patrick had
two quarterback sacks.
Yards gained from Eli Patrick, Camden Peters, Isaac Patrick, Jake
Gregor, and McKade Battcher.
The Defense was led by tackles from Caden Halloway, Camden
Peters, Deuce DeBellis, Isaac Patrick, Jake Gregor, and Matthew
Reidy. Gunnar McKinley had a fumble recovery and Alex Wolfe broke up a Tiger pass.
The Centurions are undefeated and enter the LYFL Junior West Playoffs as the #1 team. The playoff
game is Oct 17th at Daniel Field in Shelbyville, Ky. Time TBD.
The team is #1 in the LYFL West Junior division and #1 in the National Prep & Youth Football Association Kentuckiana.

The CAL Peewees jumped to an early 7-0 lead Saturday when Will Reddick snatched an interception from St. Stephens, setting up for a Collin Daniels touchdown and extra point. Conner Franklin
continued the defensive coup with two fumble recoveries. Will Reddick on the reverse zigzagged down the
field for the 1st down, followed by a Daniels touchdown and a Riley Wence extra point to put CAL up 14-0.
Bryson Hauser nabbed another fumble recovery to end the half, and Logan Ottman stripped one to begin the
third quarter. But St. Stephens began to claw back on three CAL fumbles and a long kickoff touchdown. An
interception cemented the St. Stephens lead, handing CAL the 25-14 loss.
The Mighty Mites wrapped up their regular season with a loss
to the St. Stephen Bulldogs Saturday morning at CAL. Sam
Bishop had an impressive 40 yard run, but the Centurions were
unable to put any points on the board. Notable tackles were
made by Jax Babin, McCabe Squires, Grayson Jeffries, and Ian
Waltrip. The team played with heart to the very end, but lost to
the Bulldogs 39-0.
