EXTRABLOCK SHADECLOTH BY ALNET OF SOUTH AFRICA
The Extrablock range of knitted shade cloth has been specifically designed
for use in tension structures and shade sails, but performs equally as well
when used on standard carport structures, awnings and even umbrellas.
Extrablock shade cloth is unique with its high tensile strengths in the warp
and weft directions as well as its almost equal elongation properties in
both warp and weft directions when under tension. Alnet researched and
engineered this remarkable product for almost two years, and now bring to
the world a unique and extremely functional outdoor shade cloth.

ALNET’s decorative range of products, including Extrablock and Sunblock, are manufactured on 16 gauge Raschel knitting
machines. ALNET is the only manufacturer in the world utilising as many as 8 needles per square inch in the shade netting
process. This gives the cloth its unique and stable tensioning attributes in both the warp and weft directions. Extrablock is
the result of the technological abilities and commitment of one of the world’s foremost manufacturers of knitted shade fabric,
Alnet (Pty) Ltd. Alnet is one of very few pure bred shade cloth manufacturing companies from research and development,
purchasing the HDPE pellet, extruding of the yarn, to the knitting, sales and marketing of the product.

SUNBLOCK SHADECLOTH BY ALNET OF SOUTH AFRICA
Sunblock is Alnet’s light weight shade cloth that has been designed for
residential applications, lightweight shade structures and high tension
structures where the critical requirements are for a lightweight fabric. It has
6 fantastic colours and is only 210gsm. Sunblock is also great for applications
where more light transmission is needed, this of course means its shade
cover and UV properties are lower than Extrablock.

1017 is a very high quality coated PVC with full features. Including anti wick / anti fungicide yarn and lacquer coating to both
sides. Duraskin 1017 is specifically designed to be used in tension applications such as supported and unsupported shade
structures, awnings and shade sails. It is currently available in 250cm width and eleven great colours. Duraskin comes with a 5
year UV warranty and is fire retardant. Made in Germany by Verseidag Coating and Composites. 1017 is also available with a
PVDF finish (Product 4017).
DURASKIN 1673 BY VERSEIDAG OF GERMANY
1673 is a heavier weight, highly specified opaque (block out) version of 1017. 1673 is also available to special order in a PVDF
finish (Product 4673).

Hercules HE300 is a spread coated PVC fabric with a variety of uses. It is fire retardant to AS 1530 Part 2 Flammability Index 6.
HE300 is versatile and light enough to be used for overall covers to cold air inflatables. The fabric has an acrylic coating on both
sides allowing for easy care and cleaning, is UV resistant and is easy to weld.

Docril and Docril N are proudly distributed by QCD. Citel in Spain control the entire manufacturing
process from procuring of the acrylic solution dyed fibre, to the spinning and finishing process.
This enables them to produce one of best acrylic canvasses available on the world market today.
TEFLON® (registered trade mark of DuPont) is used in the finishing process to increase wear
resistance of the fabric. It also makes the fabric more resistant to soiling from atmospheric pollutants
and general dirt particles whilst maintaining air permeability within the product. Docril and Docril N
now come with a seven year warranty

USE AND CARE OF TOP GUN
MARINE POLYESTER
CARE: TOP GUN fabric is finished to resist
surface growth of mildew, but it should not
be folded and stored while wet. Accumulations of
dirt and bird droppings which can support the
growth of mildew and result in staining, should be
removed periodically in the following ways.
CLEANING: DO NOT USE DETERGENTS ON TOP
GUN FABRIC! TOP GUN Fabric should be cleaned
with a solution of SOAP in warm water (100°F). Use a soft bristle brush
to lift soil embedded in the fabric and rinse thoroughly with clear water
to remove both soil and soap residue.
NOTE: Cleaning may result in the reduction of water repellency,
application of Aqua-Tite silicone water repellant is recommended, when
the fabric has dried thoroughly. Other products are not recommended
and may cause damage to the coating and void the warranty.

STRATAGLASS - CARE & MAINTENANCE
We recommend using only IMAR Strataglass
Protective Polish, IMAR Strataglass Protective
Cleaner and mild soap (preferably IMAR Yacht Soap
Concentrate) on Strataglass.
We no longer recommend the use of any other
products regardless of the manufacturer’s claims.
CAUTION
•Use of RAINEX on Strataglass appears to
work for a short time but then dulls the
surface and presents an ‘Orange Peel’
effect. Do not use RAINEX.
•Use of cleaners, polishes, scratch removers,
or any other product made from regular,
uncoated vinyl will damage Strataglass.
Do not use these products.
•DO NOT HANDLE STRATAGLASS (OR ANY VINYL) WITH
SUNSCREEN ON YOUR HANDS! This will permanently
cloud the vinyl where handled.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
WHEN NEW: 3M Adhesive Remover may be used
to remove glue left from fabrication. Final clean
with IMAR Strataglass Protective Cleaner. We
recommend using IMAR Strataglass Protective
Polish as the final step in installation to provide a
base of protection and a good watershed.
FOR THE CUSTOMER: We recommend using
IMAR Strataglass Protective Polish every 2 – 3
months (every 4 – 6 weeks in areas of high fallout). In the interim, use
IMAR Strataglass Protective Cleaner frequently.
NOTE: All new vinyl can easily get impressions on itself. We recommend
new enclosures to be left in place to the extent possible. If completely
removed must be interleaved with either acid-free paper (available from
framing shops) or old sheets (the best choice) to prevent ‘pooling’ in the
glass. Vinyl ‘seasons’ over time and becomes less impressionable. Roll
all curtains down and fasten in place nightly to keep perfect appearance.

TIPS TO FABRICATORS
• Lay out material that you will be using the night
before you plan to work with it. Some marking may
have occurred during transportation, this will come
out with warmth. Concerning areas may be heated
with a heat gun for instant clear up. Hold the heat
gun 4 – 6 inches away from the product and work
in 12 inch areas at a time. After a few minutes, as
the product reaches temperature gradient, it will
clear up completely It has a memory and that
memory is the perfect flatness it had coming off the press plates.
• Do not use ‘saran wrap’ or cling wrap or any vinyl products to
protect the sheets. Use craft paper or the tissue the product comes
with.
• Do not stack the curtains up without interleaving with paper or
something to keep the glass from clinging to itself, but not a vinyl fabric!
Should distortion occur, use a heat gun to heat up the surface and
return the product to its ‘memory’.
• If installing in cold weather, it is strongly recommended that you
heat up the enclosure as you are installing and stretch the product into
position. Product installed tightly in the cold will not necessarily be so
in warm weather.

Neoprene Rubber
Neoprene is a type of synthetic rubber. Neoprene rubber was
developed in the 1930s. Since then, it has been incorporated
into numerous products popular in daily life, from wetsuits to
protective gear. Neoprene has a variety of properties that make
it quite useful, including being abrasion-resistant, chemicalresistant, waterproof, somewhat stretchable and buoyant. The
many unique qualities of neoprene make it useful in a number
of popular products. One of the most popular and visible
uses of neoprene is with wetsuits. In wetsuits, neoprene traps
water between the wetsuit and the wearer’s skin. Body heat
warms the water against the skin, which works to reduce heat
loss from the body. This reduced heat loss allows someone
to comfortably stay in colder water for a longer time. It can
also be quite buoyant in the water. Neoprene wetsuits come
in a variety of thicknesses, from very thin 1mm wetsuits used
to prevent abrasions and sunburn in tropical water to thick
5mm wetsuits used in cold water. Not surprisingly, the thicker
the neoprene in a wetsuit, the more insulating it is. While the
black head-to-toe wetsuit commonly seen on television is the
image many people have of neoprene wetsuits, they come in
any number of colors, sizes and styles. Neoprene wetsuits can
dramatically slow heat loss in the water, allowing wearers to
remain in the water for much longer than they would be able
to without one. Outside of the water, neoprene has a number
of other uses. Neoprene is resistant to many chemicals and oil,
making it particularly useful for protective gloves and similar
articles. Neoprene is used in some situations where abrasion
can be a problem as well. It can be found on a number of
products today, including protective covers for items such as
cellular telephones, stubby holders and horse boots . It is also
lightweight.
