own city. Andy Scrivner,
director of golf operations, is maintaining its
tradition of evoking a
small-town experience
and also upping the personal touches a notch.
“We want our pros to
spend as much time as
possible with members
on and off the course for
even more face-to-face
exposure,” said the
Maryland native and
10-year PGA professional, who assumed his post
last August after being
head pro at Pelican
Marsh Golf Club in Naples. “Providing a tip
before, during or after
someone plays is better
than the player calling
for a lesson.”
Serving individual
needs extends to Shadow
Wood’s multiple clubfitting systems in a studio within its academy.
“We’ve recognized that
many ladies use handme-down or their husband’s clubs, especially
wedges. Most of them
need a club that’s lighter
and more specific for
their play. It’s great to
provide special help.”
The academy boasts
state-of-the-art video
swing analysis systems, a
full-swing tee and a bunkered practice green
area for both practice
and instruction that’s
“crucial to our golf experience. The academy is
one of the few in the area
that offers such a wide
range and variety in
teaching and fitting.”

bringing in outside experts such as mental
performance coach and
sports psychologist Dr.
Shannon Reese of Naples. She’ll lead an outdoor clinic Feb. 12. Such
special events inform on
“fitness, nutrition, technique and even just keeping the game fun.”
After a major investment in its indoor and
outdoor dining rooms,
locker rooms and other
areas, Shadow Wood
earned Best Renovated
Clubhouse distinction
last June by Golf Inc.
magazine. “It’s important
to be as new and modern
as possible to meet the
needs of current members and attract new
ones,” Scrivner said.
He is preparing for
the 11th annual fundraiser, themed “A Community That Cares,” for the
Shadow Wood Charitable
Foundation on Feb. 20,
including a golf tournament with approximately
150 members, and a gala
dinner with auctions and
raffles expected to gather 200-plus members.
Habitat for Humanity
was the sole recipient for
the first nine years, receiving more than $1
million. The Foundation
was created in 2012 so
the club could expand to
also support other
causes. Last year’s program raised $160,000,
elevating the 10-year
total to $1.26 million.
Benificiaries this year
will be Habitat for Humanity, Cafe of Life, New
Horizons of Southwest
Florida, Feeding the
5000, ICSL Food Pantry
and Community Outreach, Friends of the
Salvation Army and Bonita Springs Assistance
Center.

entire area,” said Scrivner, whose dad introduced
him to golf at the Diamond Ridge Golf CourseWoodlands, in Woodlawn,
