1.SAFETY
1.1.GENERAL
These safety instructions are intended for personnel operating, servicing, and repairing FARMI equipment.
These instructions will help you to:
D operate the machine safely
D operate the machine appropriately and effectively
D notice, avoid, and prevent potentially hazardous situations
The manufacturer has supplied safety instructions for the machine. The instructions must be kept in the compartment of the
machine that is reserved for the instructions, and they must always be available on the site where the machine is used.
Before using the machine, each and every operator of the machine must read the safety, maintenance, and operation
instructions. These instructions must always be followed.
The machine meets the specified technical standards as well as required and appropriate safety regulations.
In addition to those in the manual, the instructions of the local occupational safety authorities as well as national laws and
regulations must be followed.
Using the machine for tasks other than those for which it is intended or exceeding its performance is not appropriate use of
the machine. The manufacturer/supplier is not responsible for damage resulting from this kind of usage.
1.2.OPERATIONAL SAFETY
Occupational accidents often take place in abnormal or nonstandard situations.
Consider all possible, even unlikely, situations that could occur during each task.
DANGER!
Ensure that occupational safety regulations are followed when working.
Familiarize yourself with the machine’s risk zones and prevent unauthorized persons from entering these zones.
During operation, the operator of the machine is responsible for the safety and risk zones for the entire work site.
Each time the machine is to be used, first check its operational safety and correct any deficiencies.
Before starting and using the machine, ensure that it does not pose a danger to other persons or a risk of damage.
Exceeding the specified performance ratings is prohibited.
Do not operate the machine while sick or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
All of the machine’s safety and warning labels must be legible and undamaged. Replace if necessary.
The operator of the machine must always have unobstructed visibility on---site. If necessary, an assistant must be
provided to the operator.
D In the event of any defect compromising operational safety, stop the machine!
D If it is not possible to correct the impairment to operational safety, work must be stopped.

1.3.OPERATION
D Familiarize yourself with the capacity and limitations of the machine and equipment, as well as how they can be used
most efficiently.
D Familiarize yourself carefully with the operation and functions of the machine before operating it.
D The operator of the machine must also be familiar with the operation of the accessories.
D Do not stand unnecessarily close to the machine during operation.
D Prevent unauthorized persons from entering the working area during operation.
D The operator of the machine must always have unobstructed visibility of the site.
D Operating a damaged or defective machine is prohibited.
D Ensure the following:
D That the safety and protective devices of the machine are not removed or modified and that they are used properly.
D Regular safety tests and similar inspections are carried out.
D Remember that the manufacturer of the machine is not responsible for damage that is caused by:
D incorrect, careless, or inappropriate use
D misuse caused by errors on the part of untrained personnel
D When leaving the machine, always secure it from unauthorized and unintended operation.
D When parking, ensure that the machine is properly supported.
D Avoid placing sudden, demanding loads on the machine.
D Use the machine carefully in cold conditions.

Always use the oil grades recommended by the manufacturer.
Use the recommended oils in cold conditions.
Never mix different fluids or oils with each other.
Follow the manufacturer’s lubrication instructions.
1.5.MAINTENANCE
D Modifications without the manufacturer’s permission are prohibited.
D Remember that the manufacturer of the machine is not responsible for damage that is caused by:
D modifications made without the manufacturer’s permission
D use of non---original spare parts
D normal wear
D Safety devices must be re---fitted immediately after maintenance.
D Never try to take hold of moving parts when the engine is running.
D Ensure that the machine cannot be started during maintenance.
D Electrical and hydraulic failures are to be repaired by authorized personnel only. The same applies to the welding of
load---bearing structures.
D Follow the maintenance intervals listed, and perform the indicated annual safety inspections.
1.6.LIFTING
D Lift only with the proper type of lifting device, and ensure that it has an appropriate lifting capacity.
D Ensure that the lifting equipment is in good working condition. The lifting equipment must be inspected regularly.
D Ensure that you know the weight of the load to be lifted and never exceed the lifting capacity stated by the manufacturer
of the lifting device.
D Select routes for lifting that pose no danger.
2.SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CRANE
D Decision 354/83 made by the Finnish Council of State stipulates that the person operating the crane must be at least 18
years old and must have been properly trained.
D Do not use the crane before familiarizing yourself with the controls so that you are able to act appropriately in dangerous
situations.
D Before starting work, ensure that there is nobody else in the 20---m risk zone.
D The vehicle must be on solid ground and sufficiently stable. The support legs must be used.
D Always engage the vehicle’s parking brakes before loading.
D Do not exceed the maximum load values.
D Do not go under a hanging load.
D Never leave the booms up while unobserved!
D The crane must not be used to lift people.
D When hoisting, note that the booms descend slowly.
D When working close to live conductors, observe the safety distances (see Table 1.).

D Take special care when lifting a heavy load from a platform and then turning the crane to the side.
D Do not use the crane for hauling.
D Take special care when working on an inclined surface.
D Do not perform movements to the extreme positions at full speed.

2.1.ACTING IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS
D If the assembly starts to fall over, do not jump out of the vehicle.
D If the booms start descending due to overloading, move the load closer to the by column using the folding arm – do not
open the grapple.
D If the machine comes into contact with high---voltage electric cables, act as follows:
-- If you are outside the machine, do not touch any part of the machine.
-- If you are inside the vehicle, get out by JUMPING. Keep jumping with both feet until you are at least 20 meters away.
-- Immediately call for help and make sure that nobody enters the danger zone.
3.SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS
1. Hydraulic systems must be serviced by qualified, experienced hydraulics mechanics only.
2. Check the machine for any leaks and repair them before using the machine.
3. Clean the area to be repaired. Do not use solvents to clean components.
4. Never repair the hydraulic system when it is pressurized.
5. Support the machine before servicing or making repairs. Do not detach the cylinders or their valves before supporting
the machine.
6. When replacing hydraulic components and hoses, use original spare parts or parts recommended by the
manufacturer. In particular, ensure that the pressure classes correspond to the operating pressure.
7. If oil gets in the eyes, rinse them thoroughly with water and consult a doctor.
8. Oil can be removed from skin by wiping and washing. Use safety equipment when handling oils and greases.
9. Prevent hydraulic oil from escaping into the environment. Waste oil must always be collected in a container to keep the
environment clean!
10.When working in ecologically sensitive areas, use bio---oils.
11.Keep oil indoors in closed, original containers. Pour the oil into the tank directly from the container.
12.All caps, funnels, screens, and filling holes must be clean.

The slewing device (1) has a bearing--mounted column (2),
which is turned by racks.

6.ASSEMBLY AND MOUNTING
The label indicating the safe distance from live conductors
must be clearly visible during operation.
Hoses in the operator’s cabin must be
protected so that the user is not endangered by oil jets in the event of breakage.
Read these instruction before starting
any assembly or mounting work. Improper mounting work can cause hazards
CAUTION! during use of the crane.
DANGER!
Mounting carried out in a manner other than that specified in this manual can expose the user to danger
and will void the manufacturer’s guarantee.
Check the stability of the crane---vehicle assembly by
performing the necessary calculations. See Section 13.
“Determining the stability”.
The mounting must be performed by the manufacturer or a
service center or person authorized by the manufacturer.
The strength class of the mounting bolts is 10.9. Use
self---locking nuts, e.g., DIN985. The tightening torque to
be used for the mounting bolts of the crane and
supporting legs is Nm. Put all screws into place. First
tighten all screws in threaded holes to torque, and then
all screws in unthreaded holes.
The levers in the multi--lever valve can be moved to different
positions if necessary. Detach the levers from the valve
before moving them.
8.CONNECTION TO THE HYDRAULIC
SYSTEM
Before connecting the crane to the tractor’s hydraulic
system, make sure that the oils are compatible.
The crane has been tested using 10W/30 oil that meets the
API SE, CD, and API GL--4 requirements.
We recommend connecting the pressure hose to the
single--acting hydraulic outlet and the return hose to the tank
via the return filter. The filter’s intended flow rate is 80 l/min
and the filtering density 25 µm abs.
The crane can also be connected to the double--acting
hydraulics outlet. If this is done, make sure that the lever of
the double--acting valve controlling the flow is in the right
position so that the pressure is directed to the pressure
connection of the crane’s control valve. Check the operation
of the double--acting outlet in the vehicle’s operating
manual.
Retighten the bolts after the test run and
the first day of use.
CAUTION!
When mounting the crane on a foundation not delivered by
FARMI Forest, use the mounting plate shown in Figure 3..
In mounting, allow enough space for servicing and repairs.
9.COMMISSIONING
Before using the crane, familiarize yourself with the operating and safety instructions, sections 1. and 2..
CAUTION!
9.1.INSPECTIONS BEFORE TESTING
Do not pressurize the hydraulic system before connecting
the control valve’s 1/2” quick couplings to the vehicle’s
hydraulic system.
Connect the pressure hose (P) to the valve as indicated by
the arrow and the return hose (T) to the vehicle as indicated
by the arrow.
Do not pressurize the control valve’s return line (T) – this could cause the valve to
break.
Ensure that the 1/2” quick coupling are
CAUTION!
locked.
The person testing the crane must be qualified to use it.
1. Read the installation inspection report. If no
installation inspection has been performed, do not use
the crane.
2. Ensure that the control valve’s pressure line (P) has
been connected properly and that the return (T) is
unobstructed.
3. Check the hydraulic oil level.
4. Familiarize yourself with the control valve’s functions.
5. Ensure that the hoses can move freely. Remove any
transport supports and ties.
6. Ensure that there are no people or obstacles in the
operating area. The danger zone is 20 m.
7. The crane must be tested on a level, firm base.

6.1.INSTALLATION INSPECTION
Decisions 354/83 and 530/83 made by the Finnish Council
of State stipulate that an installation inspection must be
performed for each crane--vehicle assembly before use. An
inspection form can be found in section 20.
The person performing the inspection must be familiar with
the crane’s construction and operation.
7.MOUNTING THE MULTI-- AND
DOUBLE--ACTING VALVES
The valve must be positioned or covered so that the levers cannot be used
inadvertently.
CAUTION!
Install the valve using the included bracket at the desired
location, paying attention to the direction of the hoses and
movement during loading and transferring so that there is
no risk of abrasion or clamping.

9.2.TESTING
Never move the boom to its extreme position at full speed!
1. Ensure that the control valve’s control levers are in
the middle position.
2. Connect the oil flow to the crane. Let oil flow through
the valve for a while.
3. Lower the support legs.
4. Carefully drive the crane movements one by one to
their extreme positions and repeat this until the
movements are smooth.
Be careful when bleeding air from the
system. If you drive a cylinder to its extreme position at full force, the air pressure
CAUTION! in the cylinder will damage the seals.
WARNING!
Be careful when working near electric cables. Observe the safe distances.
DANGER!
When transferring the crane, support it against the trailer
body or load.
11.DETACHING THE CRANE
Ensure that the ground under the crane is sufficiently hard
and level.
Ensure that there are no extra people around and that no
danger will be caused to others where the crane is to be
stored. Pay special attention to the storage location of the
control valve, ensuring that, e.g., it is out of the reach of
children.
Always switch the pump off before removing the quick coupling between the
crane and the vehicle.
Be extremely careful when there is air in
the cylinders.
DANGER!
5. After testing the crane, inspect the joints and repair
any leaks.
6. Check the mounting bolts of the crane and the
fitting stand, and tighten them if necessary.
7. Check the hydraulic oil level, and top up the oil if
necessary.
CAUTION!
When detaching the crane from the vehicle, make sure that there are no
people in the immediate vicinity.
10.PRACTICE RUNS
D Drive through every movement with an unloaded
crane, paying attention to the positions in which the
crane can hit obstacles.
D Move the control levers smoothly and steadily,
avoiding quick and jerky movements.
D Learn to use several functions simultaneously. This
enables smooth, precise operation.
D Start off at a low engine speed in order to avoid sudden
movements.
D When you have become accustomed to the crane’s
movements, choose the appropriate engine speed so
that operation is efficient but you still have the
movements under control.
The lowest recommended operating temperature for the
crane is ---25_C.
Note that the hydraulic seals, hoses, and steel structures
are prone to damage at low temperatures.
When starting work at cold temperatures, first let the oil flow
freely through the valve for a couple of minutes.
The maximum operating temperature for hydraulic oil is
+75_C.
Use the support legs only to provide additional support for the vehicle.
CAUTION!
1. Lower the support legs to the desired height.
2. Lower the booms as shown in Fig. 4..

4. Make sure that the crane cannot lean over. Fig. 4.
5. Detach the crane from the vehicle.
6. Detach and cover the control valve’s quick couplings.
12.STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Clean the crane and, if necessary, touch up any points
where paint has peeled off.
2. Lubricate the crane thoroughly (see Lubricating
Instructions).
3. Release the pressure from the cylinders.
4. Protect the cylinder piston rods and exposed parts of
the control valve with grease.
5. Store the crane in a sheltered area, away from direct
contact with the ground.
6. When you start using the crane again, remove the
protective grease from the cylinder piston rods and the
control valve.
CAUTION!
When working on an inclined surface, do not load the crane
with the full lifting torque, and be extremely careful.
When loading from uphill, note that the slewing movement
may not be able to support the load but the pressure relief
valves can be overloaded and the load can move down,
causing a danger of the crane falling over.

13.TESTING THE STABILITY
The formulas and examples included in these instructions
are based on the SFS 4677 standard.
During the test, the vehicle is in normal working condition
without load, tilted 5_ to the side. The ground must
withstand the maximum load applied by the wheels or the
other points of support.
D The test is performed at the maximum reach with 10%
overload. All normal crane functions are performed, but
cautiously. The vehicle’s 5_ inclination is achieved by
putting a suitable riser under one of the rear wheels. Its
height can be calculated as follows:
h = riser height needed
z =vehicle width from wheel center to wheel center
h = 0.087 x z
Example:
z =120 cm
h = 0.0887 x 120 cm = 15 cm
D The vehicle is considered stable if no more than one
point of support rises off the ground during the test.
Increased stability when loading it from the side can
be achieved by widening the track and/or adding rear
axle load by using, for example, wheel weights.

(order nr.52081155).
2. Plug the T1 port with plug that was removed from port

3. Tighten main relief valve 3/4” turns. The main relief
valve must be adjusted 5--10 bar (73--145 psi) higher
than tractor’s pressure.

17.MAINTENANCE

ensure safe and trouble---free operation.

5. Detach the piston from the rod.
6. Clean the seal grooves and install the new seals. Be
careful not to break the seals when installing them!
7. Install the piston on the rod and tighten to 240 Nm.

8. Lubricate the new seals with hydraulic oil before
pushing the piston into the cylinder sleeve.
Replace all hydraulic cylinder seals at the same time.
9. Ensure that the circlip is securely in place.
1. Strike the piston rod guide inward --- see Fig. 8.
2. Turn the end of the circlip past the hole on the cylinder
sleeve --- see Fig. 8.
3. Knock the end of the circlip out of the groove using a
punch, and remove the circlip.

17.5.PRESSURE MEASUREMENT
D The free flow pressure can be read from the
manometer when the flow of oil is directed through the
valve.
Always make the adjustments with the manometer in
place.
D The main pressure is measured from the measuring
point in the control valve’s inlet section.
D Adjustments and inspections for each movement:
D Set the main pressure relief valve to 5 bar above
the value set for the protective valve.
D Perform the movement, and check and adjust the
pressure if necessary.
D Finish by adjusting the main pressure to the set
value.
D Pressure measurements are to be performed at the
normal operating temperature and at the normal flow
rate.
17.6.REPAIR WELDING
If welding is required for modifying or repairing the crane,
note the following:
D The welder must be qualified: welding grade 3. There
must be no root defects.
D Remove paint and any oil from the location to be
welded.
D Connect the ground terminal directly to the piece to be
welded – there must be no joints in between.
D Use OK 48.00 or equivalent electrodes. The electrodes
must be dry.
D Improperly welded structures can get fractured.

19.LUBRICATION
19.2.HYDRAULIC OIL REQUIREMENTS
Using the appropriate hydraulic oils and lubricants is
essential for the trouble---free operation of the machine.
The freezing point must be below ---50_C.
The viscosity must not be lower than 1.5 E_, +50_C for
piston pumps and 2.5 E_, + 50_C for gear pumps.
The hydraulic oil must contain the necessary additives
for lubrication, rust protection, and defoaming.
19.1.CHANGING THE OIL
Change the oil according to the vehicle’s maintenance
recommendations.
The crane has been filled with 10W/30 oil at the factory.
If the oil temperature does not exceed 70_C in the summer,
winter oil can be used all year round.
