Many generous business’ and private individuals donated silent auction items, and they were treated to good weather and a fantastic lunch. The Discovery Bay Women’s Golf Club and Discovery Bay Breakers co-chaired this event, and we want to thank all the volunteers and committee people that made the event a success. Hopefully soon we will not have to have this event, but until then thanks for your support. This change 2:00 in dressp.m. code policy is in keeping with many of the changes that have been made to accommodate the membership and many other Country Clubs, including Round Hill, Diablo and Orinda Country Clubs have made these adjustments in an attempt to encourage more members to support the restaurant operation. This new format will be on a trial basis and will be evaluated after the first of the New TH Year. THE CLUB WILL BE CLOSED ON CHRISTMAS DAY SUNDAY, DECEMBER 25 . Thank You, Club Management “NEW” Sunday Evening Dining Format On September 12th we started a new format for Sunday dinner. After much consideration, we decided to change our Family Buffet to a casual Late Lunch/ Light Dinner Menu. We are currently not receiving the amount of participation required to continue with the Family Buffet due to the cost associated with this format. Over the last year, we are averaging just forty people for our buffet and have decided to offer a menu that is very affordable and all items will be available for “Take Out” as well. This menu will be available from 3:30-7pm and seating will be in the Grill and Fairway Room. “Take Out” orders will be available by phone as well as in person and if picking up an order, we will relax the dress code to include denim so as to make it convenient to come to the Club to pick up your order. We will appreciate those reservations for parties larger than four, call ahead of time so we can have a table set for you. We understand that we do have some members who enjoy and support the current Sunday Buffet but unfortunately, we can no longer offer this. Perhaps we will be able to offer the buffet at some future time. For those members who decide to dine here, our usual casual dress code applies. We look forward to this new dining option and we hope that our members will enjoy and support the change. However it is also great if you can learn to improve at golf as that will give you even greater pleasure. While many believe you can get better by using some magic training aid the truth still remains that it will require effort and commitment in order to improve. The amount of time and energy you put in will reflect how good you become. However there are some things you can follow in order to get better faster and with the least amount of effort possible. The key is to practice smart and not necessarily hard. One of the best tips to follow in order to lower your golf handicap is to practice a lot on the short game. It is important to spend enough time hitting wedge shots and chips and pitch shots around the green as these kinds of shots can save you many strokes during a round of golf. Hit a lot of shots from inside 100 yards. Also hit a lot of chips from all kinds of different lies. In fact look for the worst lies possible when practicing and hit from those. If you can learn to play from bad lies then the game will become a lot easier. Learning the game backwards from the green to the tee is how many professionals learned how to play golf. Also remember that if you have confidence in your short game it will also help your long game since you will not be afraid to mishit the occasional shot as you know that you will be able to recover most of the time.
