Our Story
A family owned and operated farm since 1971. In 2002 we became a Certified
Organic Farm. There were several obstacles for organic farmers in the area. One
was not having an Organic Grain Elevator at harvest time to sell or store their
grain. The other was the need for help with the organic certification process.
In 2007, we had the opportunity to purchase a vacant grain elevator. After much
cleaning and a few minor repairs, we were operational for harvest in 2007. We also
started the consulting service to help local farmers with the certification process.
We have continued to make upgrades to the elevator since its purchase. More
storage bins and an outdoor pit to unload semis have been added. The most recent
upgrade in the summer of 2013 was a 70' x 11' Rice Lake digital scale with a
maximum load capacity of 200,000 lbs.
We have expanded the business to carry organic &
natural product lines. We offer organic livestock,
pest/weed control and gardening products. Currently
we are a very diverse in the things that we do

Have you been thinking about transitioning your farm to
organics? Is the thought of all the paperwork just too daunting?
Or are you already certified and need some help maintaining all
the paper work? Below is some FAQ that will help you
understand what we can to for you.
What services do S T Organics consultants provide?
1. Assistance with the organic application process.
a. We will fill in the appropriate blanks, layout the maps,
attach necessary documents, etc. for the application.
b. You will have to gather some basic information about your operation and meet
with a consultant to complete the application.
2. Field visits
a. We will meet with you and tour your operation to familiarize us with it and point
out potential problems that may be of concern pertaining to organic standards.
(Example- Buffer Zones, runoff from conventional fields, on-farm grain storage of
both conventional and organic crops, Etc.)
3. Maintain audit trail documentation.
a. We will set up and help you maintain your field logs.
b. We will provide and help fill out needed clean out logs/paperwork.
c. We will provide and help with seed searches.
d. We will maintain product labels used in your operation.
4. Help addressing non-compliances (problems complying with the organic standards).
a. You will be inspected annually by an inspector and may be given requirements
that need to be addressed before the next application we will advise you on
what you can do.
5. Answer question about ANYTHING ORGANIC!
a. If we do not know, we will find out!
How much is it going to cost?
1. It will vary greatly by size and complexity of the operation.
a. The application and initial setup will vary from about 8 to 20 hours and usually
decrease after the first year depending on your farms activity.
b. The remainder of the year will depend on how much you do in your operation
and the degree of assistance needed.

BS compost is a small. We currently offer cattle manure compost screened
topsoil, custom fertilizer blends, extracted compost tea and river rock.
Quality means everything to us at BS Compost. All our compost is closely
monitored, and turned to create the best finished product we can provide for the
customer. Testing of the finished compost is done routinely to ensure consistency of the
product and nutrient levels.
BS Compost provides a rich,
quality product so the consumer can use less
and receive the same benefits.
Soil has microbes living
in it which assist in doing the work of growing plants. These microbes put compost at an
advantage over commercial fertilizers and other types of plant food.
Compost is an excellent way to help conserve water. Compost
builds the soil to better absorb and utilize the moisture. Compost also helps reduce
leeching, water run-off, and loss of vital nutrients.
BS Compost meets all of the NOP organic standards. Our
compost has been maintained at temperatures between 131 and 170 degrees F for a
minimum of fifteen days with a minimum of five turns.
Our compost starts out with a mixture of cow manure and straw. We
then test for moisture content, temperature, and CO2 levels. These readings are what
we use to determine the best time to turn and add water. We closely monitor CO2 levels
as well as temperatures to ensure that the microbial life has the best conditions possible
to produce a quality product.
We believe that everybody has different needs. If you are looking
for a specific blend, we can assist you by mixing it to your specifications. Just call for

Our cattle manure compost is a rich blend of cattle manure and straw. This product
works great for new lawns, per-existing lawns, gardens, and flowerbeds.
Screened topsoil is used as a replacement or conditioner in places where the soil is not
very good for growing. This product is screened to remove rocks, clumps, and other
contaminants.
Our topsoil compost blend is a blend of our rich Cattle
Manure Compost blended with screened topsoil. This combination makes a beautiful
blend that works well for new lawns, new sod, flowerbeds, and anywhere you want nice
growing conditions present.

Extracted compost tea is a biological stimulant that will
dramatically improve plant growth and plant health. We use an
extraction process which increases the biological life and
diversity in the tea, creating a superior product. The biological
life in your soil is what delivers nutrients to the plant to help
grow a healthy plant. Our tea helps enrich the soil with
biological life thus giving the plant the extra organisms it
requires to build the plant into a healthy productive plant.
Household plants, Vegetable gardens, Flower beds, Lawns,
Trees, Wheat, Barley, Corn Fields, Other Farmland, and Any
Vegetation that needs to grow.
The extraction process allows the microorganisms
to stay in a dormant state. Brewing makes them
active; therefore a brewed product must be used
in 48 hours or less. Extracted compost tea has a
shelf life of approximately 6 months and it has a
more diverse biological life than can be obtained
from the brewing process.
In our Extracted Compost Tea, micro-organisms are extracted into the brew where they
lay dormant until the Act Pak is added. The Act Pak is a food for the micro-organisms,
and after adding them, the organisms are ready to be applied to the vegetation that
needs fertilization.
BS Compost's Extracted Compost Tea is made with
non-manure based compost, and is allowed for use
on organically certified crops. Ask for a label to send
to your certifier.
Empty the contents of the Act Pak into the jug of tea.
Shake well and apply to vegetation in need of some
tender loving care. For every 1 gallon of tea, apply to
4,000 sq. ft. Use the activated tea within 24 hours of
activation. Do not apply 1 week prior or after germination.
Extracted Compost Tea is a liquid biological stimulant that helps plants grow, and
makes the nutrients in e soil more available for plant absorption. It is applied foliar to the
plant and helps maximize yield potential and overall plant health.

Humates (coarse grade) derived from
Leonardite shale and a natural source of
humic substances and trace minerals
from New Mexico. Contains 45% humic
acids. Coarse grade for soil application
only. Use 50–400 lb/acre or 1–2 lb/100 sq
ft. Apply directly to seedbeds at 10–30
lb/acre. For lawns, use 50 lb/15,000 sq ft.
Drammatic
For centuries, fish has been recognized
as an excellent fertilizer source. For this
reason we have developed multiple all
natural liquid fish formulas for organic

We make our fertilizers from fresh fish
carefully processed at low temperatures
to maintain the integrity of naturally
occurring amino acids, vitamins,
hormones and enzymes. The raw

Garlic Barrier
Garlic is well-known for its insectrepellent and fungicidal properties.
This specially processed all-natural
garlic concentrate is odorless in
minutes after it is applied, even
indoors, will not affect the taste of
edible plants. Garlic repels, rather
than kills insects, so it is important to
apply before they have taken up
residence. It can be applied in most
cases 10-12 times per season for
quarts and 4-6 times per season for
gallons. Do not use just before or
during pollination or bees will avoid
the plants! Mix the quart size Garlic

Talmadge Farms & Feed
We acquired our portable pellet mill in 2007. The mill was
previously owned by Rebecca's late Great Uncle, Richard
Montgomery. The
mill is one of only six
ever manufactured as a portable mill. As far as we
know, this is the only one left in the US that is still
set up as a portable unit. The pellet mill had
always intrigued Justin. We use the bi-products
from our grain elevator to make feed for our own
livestock. This led us to making pellets & feed for
our customers.
