Brake system adjustments Shifting system adjustments Rear & front hub adjustments Headset adjustments Bottom bracket adjustments Torque all screws and nuts Standard wheel true Lubrication maintenance Safety inspection / test ride As the weather changes and the snow melts the Rocky Mountains turn from ski havens to mountain biker's dream. There are a few thing's you should consider after dusting off your bike and before hitting the trails. We sat down with Buckley's own Erik Peterson who just returned from the Barnett Bike Institute (BBI) as a Certified Bike Mechanic. The certification took two weeks, was held in Colorado Springs and was led by industry leaders from all over the country. At BBI their philosophy and focus is on: Bicycle mechanics is a science, not an art; eliminating guesswork; eliminating reliance on subjective "feel"; eliminating reliance on memorization, and the need to take notes (bbinstitute.com). In the biking world this training is considered the Gold Standard in bike maintenance and those who participate and pass are certified to work on several types of bikes. We asked Erik what services he recommends for your bike before you hit the trails. Here is what he had to say, "You should check your chain stretch, if your chain is damaged it can cause major problems to your bike. It is cheaper to replace the chain than to replace all the small parts a bad chain can ruin." Another service Erik recommends is checking your brake pads. Old, worn out brake pads can cause damage to your wheels and are vital in keeping you safe on your ride. You can get these services as well as a full tune up for your bike at Buckley Outdoor Recreation (ODR). Erik is an avid mountain biker who is happy to share his knowledge of bikes, trails recommendations, safety and a fun story or two. You can visit him at Buckley Outdoor Recreation, bldg. 1022, or by calling 720-847-6100. Erik's last bit of advice, "get out and ride!" Biking Areas Erik Recommends: - Winter Park, CO - Cherry Creek/Aurora Reservoir, CO - Golden, CO - Air Force Academy, CO If you are feeling really adventurous... - Lake Tahoe, CA - White Mesa, NM - Mecca of Moab, UT (ODR is planning a trip this fall!) 3 Fitness Center Dash to Distance 3 June 12k (7.45 miles) 0730 Outdoor Track Download this month's complete class schedule at 460fss.com THE BUCK STOP Fitness Center Bldg 35 720-847-6679 Monday-Friday 0500-2200 Saturday 0600-2100 Sunday 0600-1800 4 Grab-N-Go Starbucks Coffee Smoothies and Gear! Family Child Care offers in-home care for children ages 2 weeks to 12 years in both on-installation housing and civilian communities. The Family Child Care (FCC) program is designed to provide an alternative to center-based care with flexible hours and small groups in home-like settings. BECOME A FAMILY CHILD CARE PROVIDER: Did you know that individuals caring for other families’ children, more than 10 hours a week on a regular basis in on-base quarters, must be licensed by the installation commander? Would you like to open your own business? Do you like working with children? If so, perhaps you would be interested in a Family Child Care Provider career. The Buckley Family Child Care Program is currently recruiting child care providers to provide care for children with Special Needs and the Expanded Child Care Program which includes UTA/drill weekends. These individuals are given priority in licensing. If you are interested in becoming a licensed family child care provider, please contact Lorrie Heller, Family Child Care Coordinator, at (720) 847-9225/7215. EXPANDED CHILD CARE PROGRAMS: The Expanded Child Care (ECC) Program tailors short-term care to the unique needs of the children and their families in licensed/affiliated FCC homes. Available are many programs that offer FREE child care to qualified service members and their families. Care for Unit Training assembly weekends, Extended Duty Care (EDC) Program, Home Community Care (HCC), Pre-Deployment and Deployment Child Care and Returning Home Care (RHC). To request care, the parent must complete the AF FCC ECC Registration. 10 f Like 460FSS Youth Center NEW Summer Hours Beginning 6 June-5 August Our new summer hours of operation will go in to effect.
