A new club has been formed by Farragut High School.
It is the first Friends of the Smokies Student Club.
Around 40 members are in the club. Their crew leader
is Randy Puckett, a teacher from Maryville, Tennessee.
The group holds fund-raisers and telethons and they
even help to keep scenic hiking trails clean. Donations
are always welcome. For more information contact
Farragut High School at 966-9775.
2010 marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of
the Town of Farragut. A year-long celebration will be
held with events and opportunities every month. Help
the Town of Farragut celebrate this auspicious occasion.

Did you know that Knoxville has a special phone
number which is provided to all its residents? You can
dial 3-1-1 to receive information on non-emergency city
services from parade routes to filing for a license or
maybe obtaining a permit. A highly trained call-taker
will be available to provide answers and to listen to issues.
Mayor Bill Haslam unveiled this service in August of
2005, wanting to provide an easy-to-use direct line to
Knoxville government. It is good to know there is an
“avenue” such as this available to all of us.
Being healthy was the venue for the networking event held at Quick Gym located in Renaissance I
Farragut on January 21. Ron and Sylvia Garrett, pictured, are dedicated to the promotion of not only working out to be fit, but also using healthy products for your body as well. They stand by the use of Herbalife
products and offered different samplings of these types of food products. It is an amazing story to hear
Ron Garrett talk about what his health used to be before Herbalife. Also, the specialized fitness equipment at Quick Gym saves time by providing a more concentrated work out in a short amount of time.
Randy Walker, Candidate TN State Senate, District 7 and his wife Cindy Walker are shown here chatting with Tim Williams of Matlock Tire Service. The Walkers held a networking event on January 28 at the
Offices at Waters Edge.
No matter how long ago a special event has occurred it
does not lessen the success of it. On December 5, the
Farragut High School Varsity Dance Team went to the
TSSAA State Competition in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
They faced many competitors, but, as we all know, there
is always that one team that has beat you before and you
are aching for your turn in the winners circle against such
a team. And that is just what happened. This dedicated,
young team brought home the State Championship in
the Small Varsity Jazz Division. Our hearts and congratulations go out to all of these team members and their
coach, Adonia Adams.
Bill Jones Music is proud to announce that they now
offer Yamaha Music School Lessons. Did you know students with coursework/experience in music performance
and music appreciation score higher on the SAT? In a
study, students in music performance scored 57 points
higher on the verbal and 41 points higher on the math,
and students in music appreciation scored 63 points
higher on verbal and 44 points higher on the math, than
did students with no arts participation. Call the folks at
Bill Jones Music at (865) 690-6465 for more information.
The Episcopal School of Knoxville has broken ground
for a new $3 million, 22,000 square foot Lower School
building slated to be ready for use by August, 2010. The
arts and crafts style building will be named the
Brewington Family Lower School, in honor of Mary
Ellen and Steven Brewington, whose gift is making the
building possible. It will include 12 classrooms, a
library, art room, Lower School director's office, music
room, and foreign language lab, with space for tutoring
and teacher supply rooms. The building of the Lower
School with its belfry and carillon is a landmark event for
the K-8 Episcopal School, following completion in 2008
of a beautiful 22,000 square foot middle school building
and bell tower. The 11-year-old Episcopal School first
opened its doors in August of 1998 on the campus of St.
Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Farragut. The school
moved to its present, 97-acre campus off Lovell Road in
West Knoxville in 2000 and has grown every year, adding
an administrative building, a chapel, and a 22,000 square
foot middle school building. Until now, however, the
Lower School has been meeting in provisional classrooms. For more information, please contact: Kelly
Norrell, Communications Director, The Episcopal
School of Knoxville, 950 Episcopal School Way,
Knoxville, TN 37932. Desk: 218-4476, Cell: 8060132.

Great news … effective July 1, 2007, the Occupational and Physical Practice Act in Tennessee was amended to provide for direct access to physical therapy without a prior referral from a licensed doctor of medicine, chiropractic, dentistry, podiatry or osteopathy. What this means in layman’s terms is that you can
visit Results Physiotherapy without being referred from your regular doctor first. Their physical therapists will provide hands-on treatments to help improve activity and reduce pain. Pictured at the networking held on February 11 are Tammy Smith, Debbie Loughrey, Marianne Morse and Pam Lambert

P
Quotes ‘n Notes
by Bettye Sisco
"Learn from every single being,
experience, and moment. What joy it is to
search for lessons and goodness and
enthusiasm in others."
~Eve Marie Carson
I really enjoy learning
daily! “Knowledge comes
from inspiration – one bit
at a time.” That doesn’t
mean that we only learn
things that inspire us. Of
course, this is probably
the most gratifying learning experience that we get, when we dive into
and study something that interests and captivates us.
However, sometimes we do learn out of necessity. Then the question is can we enjoy learning
things that we are forced to learn as much as
the other more inspirational ones?
Occasionally, we do take pleasure in learning
something we never thought would interest us,
when we find certain obligations to be quite
delightful.
For instance, I was very skeptical about texting for many years, failing to recognize its full
potential. Don’t get me wrong, I still struggle
with it but now know it’s a very different story.
It’s one of those things that I was wrong about
and very glad to have my thinking box widened.
I constantly find myself learning new things –
at work, in life, from books, from blogs/sites.
Sometimes I get tired of learning, pondering
why do I always have to learn, will it ever end,
would it be possible to one day just use the
knowledge that I’ve already acquired in this life
without having to learn anything else for at least
awhile?
But more often than not, I can’t wait to find
time for learning all those numerous things that
I want to know more about.
I wonder why do we learn? Do we learn
because it comes with our survival instinct or do
we learn because we simply must feed our
brains with a daily knowledge of something
new? We have to learn to survive in this world
driven by insane competition in almost every
aspect of our lives otherwise our brains will die
of idle starvation.
I learn out of curiosity. Many times, it’s done
only for the sake of the learning process, I’m not
seeking to apply the knowledge. When the
appropriate opportunity comes, the knowledge
is there, in my head, so I can use it. Don’t ever
say, “I can never use that information.” If you
think back you can probably remember a time
you may have said that and are now using the
very knowledge you thought you would never
need.
Why do you learn? I don’t know. But share
your thoughts with others so that they can learn
from you!

variety of occasions. Today's parents, especially moms, are more connected than ever and
they're turning to technology to keep up with the various aspects of their lives," said Paul
Dickison of The Little Gym International. For more information about The Little Gym

Take Care of Your
Pet at All Styles!
Every
owner
strives for their pet
to look his or her
best. However, finding the right place
to bring them to be
groomed can sometimes be a tricky
task. All Styles
Grooming
and
Courtney Such
Daycare is here to
help. With many different services, it is guaranteed that your
dog or cat will walk out the door looking
its best!
As soon as you walk through the door,
the passion for animals is seen right away.
With the whole place decorated in everything dog and cat, you are sure to feel at
ease about leaving your pet there for the
day. There was not a doubt in owner
Shannon Smith’s mind when she decided
to open in October of 2005. She went
through grooming school and said “the
rest is just history! I love animals. This
[job] is a labor of love! It just came naturally to me!”
All Styles is not your typical grooming
shop. They take care of the animals, and
try their hardest to not let them sit in a
cage the whole day. On the rare occasion
that they are in the cage, there are always
cushions to help keep the dogs calm and
comfortable. Before the bathing even
begins, the dogs will be taken on a walk to
get some of their energy out. Smith also
believes in using some of the best equipment, and refuses to use cage dryers. As
for nail clipping, she will only use clippers
or drummel files. Safety and care of the
animals is a must at All Styles.
Dogs and cats of every size and type are
welcome. Dogs as big as Masstifs come in
to be groomed! Typically the shop will
have around nine dogs per day, but more
during the holiday season. Among some of
the services offered are bathing, clipping
nails, fixing the pads of the feet, ear care,
and hair care.
It is not often that All Styles advertises,
but it is most certainly not because they
are not able to. Smith said, “Most of my
business is repeat [customers], and a lot
of customer referrals.” Smith loves to
meet new customers and their furry
friends.
All Styles is located on Kingston Pike
across from the Summit View Nursing
Home. For more information or to book
and appointment, call 966-5676.

Do you own or are thinking about starting your own small business? Maybe you
have already decided that you have what
it takes to start a business on your own
and you are looking for information to
begin. Many books have been written
about starting a business and succeeding

books would be a good source of information about small businesses. I have
reviewed many of these resources and
have compiled a list of those I think are
worth reading:
