Dear Race Participant,
We want to thank you for participating in this year's Chico Stage Race. We are Northern California's
largest bike race featuring the Steve Harrison Memorial Criterium and the Downtown Mile. We are
happy to announce the addition of a fourth stage to our event; the Thunderhill Circuit Race (Pro/1/2 and
Masters 35+ 1/2/3 fields only)! Our sponsorship and venue have allowed us to provide a great prize list
for this year's event with over $6,000 in cash and prizes.
With the continued support of a great cycling club, sponsors and local city officials we continue to fine
tune and put together a quality event that gives back to our community and cycling. This race attracts
many spectators, especially at the Downtown Criterium. We would like to leave a LASTING POSITIVE
impression on everyone attending this event. Please be on your best behavior since you are
representing our event, your team and cycling in general.
Also, this race is supported exclusively by volunteers so please be polite with our volunteers and don't
hesitate to thank them for their assistance in making this race.
In addition to the USA Cycling Rulebook you are responsible for reading and following the rules set
forth in this technical guide.
The following items are of particular importance:



Parking: Park only where indicated.
Portable Toilets/Bathrooms: Nothing will get us kicked out of a venue faster than using private
property as a toilet.
Helmets: Must be worn and secured at all times while on a bicycle

GENERAL INFORMATION
This is a multiple day stage race based on cumulative time for all categories. The winner will have the
lowest elapsed time over the course of the race. You are required to finish each stage within the time
cut in order to start the next stage.
REGISTRATION
PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY. Online registration is at www.BikeReg.com We have limited space per
category.





NO REFUNDS ALLOWED ONCE REGISTRATION CLOSES
NO rider substitutions or replacements are allowed
Riders must register for the category listed on their USA Cycling license
Riders will not be allowed to change their category at the race
Riders must have a current USA Cycling license.
INFORMATION/NUMBER PICKUP

Pro/1/2 & 35+ 1/2/3: Opens at 3:00pm at the Thunderhill Raceway Club House 1st floor. This

is the first stage of the Stage Race for the Pro/1/2 & Masters 35+ 1/2/3. Packet pickup will close
15 minutes prior to the start of each category.
All other categories: Sign-in and number pickup will be located at the Paskenta Community
Hall (13140 Toomes Camp Rd, Paskenta, CA 96074). Packet pickup will be available 1 hour prior
to the start of the first event and will close 15 minutes prior to the start of each category.

RESULTS
Official results will be posted following each stage at the sign in/information area. Results will also be
available prior to the following day’s stage at the Sign in/registration area. All efforts will be made to

FINAL RESULTS will be posted online at www.chicostagerace.com and reported to USA Cycling
www.usacycling.org within 1 week of event completion. THESE RESULTS ARE FINAL

RACE TECHNICAL DETAILS
SIGN-IN

Riders are REQUIRED to Sign in before each stage except the TT at the designated Sign in
location (Registration). Failure to sign-in will result in a fine of $20.00, per USAC rules. Check
individual stage details for sign-in locations and additional instructions. Sign-in will close 10
minutes prior to start of each stage.
TIME CUTS




Thunderhill Circuit Race: Due to the nature of the Thunderhill Circuit Race, the time cut will be
15% of the Stage Winner's time. Any rider pulled by the officials will be given a pro-rated time
for the stage(USAC rule 4E7B). A rider will be pulled if the Chief Ref determines that rider is at
immediate risk of being lapped.
Paskenta Hills Road Race: 20% of Stage Winners time.
River Rd Time Trial: 30% of Stage winner’s time. Riders who suffer a puncture or mechanical
verified by an official during the TT will be given the time of the last place finishing rider
Downtown Criterium: The time cut will be the halfway point of the race. Any rider that does not
make the halfway point of the race before being pulled by the officials will be considered
outside the time cut. Pulled riders will be given adjusted times for their finish per USAC rule
4E7B.
PROTESTS
DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL YOU HAVE REVIEWED THE FINAL POSTED RESULTS
Rule 4F7a: Protests must be made no later than the close of sign-in for the next stage. Protests
must be made before the start of the following day’s stage, or within 15 minutes following the
posting of the results of Stage 4 and final General Classification. All protests regarding placing and
times must be given to the Chief Judge.
TIME BONUSES



Thunderhill Circuit Race: Will have time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
finishers.
Road Race Finish: Will have time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd finishers.
Criterium Finish: Will have time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds for 1st, 2nd and 3rd finishers.
CENTERLINE
The Paskenta Hills RR and TT roads are open to traffic. Obey and respect all police officer, official,
and staff requests. Please keep the race safe and remain to the right of the centerline. If no painted
centerline marking exists, riders must keep to the right side of the road at all times.
RACE NUMBERS
Each rider will be given two (2) bib number.
DO NOT CUT, FOLD, WRINKLE or ALTER NUMBERS!
JERSEY NUMBER POSITIONS


All riders MUST WEAR BOTH bib number for all stages. If you do not
wear both bib numbers you will be assessed a $20.00 fine per USAC
rules.
Numbers must be worn on the lower part of the jersey just above the
jersey pocket and along the side seam.
CHAMPION SYSTEMS LEADER’S JERSEYS
The overall race leader as well as the U25 leader, Sprint leader, and 45+ leader
are required to wear the official Leader’s jersey for that competition (unless
Jersey in correct size is unavailable) except during the TT. In Order to be declared
the winner of any competition/category the rider must finish all four stages. If a
rider holds multiple jerseys simultaneously, the order of precedence is as follows
– General Classification – Sprint Points – U25 Pro 1/2 men, 45 and over 35+ 1/2/3.
YELLOW LEADER’S JERSEY
The GC leader for Pro/1/2 and 35+ 1/2/3 must wear the Champion System Yellow
Leader’s Jersey for every stage except during the TT. All other categories will be
presented with their jerseys at the conclusion of the event.
G.C. is covered in USAC 3H4(c) - tie breaking in order of priority is:
1. Fractions of a second from TT
2. Sum of the stages
3. Place in the final stage.
GREEN SPRINTER JERSEY (Pro/1/2 only)
The Sprint Points Competition leader for Pro/1/2 only must wear the Champion
System Green Sprinter Jersey for every stage except during the TT.
Points classification tie breaks are covered by rule 3H4(d)(iii):
In the event of a tie in the general individual classification by points, the following
criteria shall be applied in order until the riders are separated:
1. Number of stage wins;
2. Number of wins in intermediate sprints counting for the general classification on
points
3. General individual classification by time.
WHITE YOUNG RIDER JERSEY (Pro/1/2 only)
The best placed U25 GC rider for the Pro/1/2 only must wear the Champion
System White Young Rider Jersey for every stage except during the TT. U25 is
defined as any rider who’s current USAC racing age is 24 and under.
GRAY SILVERBACK JERSEY (35+ 1/2/3 only)
The best placed 45+ GC rider for the 35+ 1/2/3 only must wear the Champion
System Gray Silverback Jersey for every stage except during the TT. 45+ is
defined as any rider who’s current USAC racing age is 45 and over.
TEAM COMPETITION
There will be a team competition included in the Pro/1/2 and 35+ 1/2/3 events only. This is a general
classification for teams by time, based on the sum of the three best individual times for each stage. The
team classification for the day shall be calculated on the basis of the sum of the three best individual
times from each team. In the event of a tie, the teams are separated by the sum of the places acquired
by their three best-placed riders on the stage. In the event that the position is still tied, the placing of
their best-placed rider for the stage separates the teams.
The team general classification shall be calculated on the basis of the sum of the three best individual
times from each team in each stage ridden. In the event of a tie, the following criteria shall be applied in
order until the teams are separated:
1. Number of first places in the daily team classifications.
2. Number of second places in the daily team
classifications, etc.
3. In the event that the position is still tied, the teams are
separated by the placing of the best-placed rider in the
individual general classification.
4. Any team reduced to fewer than three riders shall be
eliminated from the team general classification.

POINTS COMPETITION
Points will be awarded at the finish and "Hot Spots" of each stage based on
the table below. For the Thunderhill Circuit Race, Hot Spot points will be
awarded on laps 2, 5, and 8 at the Start/Finish. For the Paskenta Hills RR,
points will be awarded at the finish line during the first lap. We will also be
including three separate hot spot sprints in the Downtown Criterium. Sprints
will be with 30, 20, and 10 laps to go. There will be no points for the Sprinter
Jersey competition during the TT.
PRIZES/PODIUM PRESENTATIONS
All Prize money will be mailed to the winners the week following the race. Please fill out the form
located at the Downtown Criterium Information tent if you anticipate that you will be receiving
prize money. Jersey’s and Trophies will be handed out at the podium presentations for each stage.
You must be present at your podium ceremony to be eligible to receive prize money!




Friday’s Thunderhill Circuit Race Podium Ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the
event at the Thunderhill Champion’s Podium located outside of the Clubhouse.
Saturday’s Paskenta Hills Road Race Podium Ceremony will follow each race at the
Registration/Information area at the Paskenta Community Hall.
Sunday’s River Rd TT Podium Ceremonies will take place at the Steve Harrison Memorial
Downtown Criterium on the Downtown Plaza Stage prior to the start of each category’s crit.
For fields whose TT takes place after the crit, TT Podium Ceremonies will take place at the
conclusion of the event prior to the GC leader’s Podium Ceremony.
Sunday’s Steve Harrison Memorial Downtown Criterium Podium Ceremonies will take place
at the conclusion of the event on the Downtown Plaza Stage. GC Leader’s presentations will
follow.

DIRECTIONS
From I-5 Willows, CA take Hwy 162 West 6 miles towards Thunderhill Raceway Park.
PARKING
Parking for the Thunderhill Circuit Race will be located immediately to the right upon entry to
the paddock area. Please follow parking attendant directions and respect the 10mph speed
limit.
INFORMATION/NUMBER PICKUP
Opens at 3:00pm at the Thunderhill Raceway Club House 1st floor. This is the first stage of the
Stage Race for the Pro/1/2 & Masters 35+ 1/2/3.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
A 3-mile, 15 turn, closed circuit, auto racing track with elevation changes. Beautiful pavement!
Located at Thunderhill Raceway Park. www.thunderhill.com 3K will be clearly marked.
FREE LAP rule is not in effect.
WHEEL SUPPORT
There will be no wheel pit at the Thunderhill Circuit Race. We will do our best to provide neutral
wheel support to everyone. All follow vehicles will be wheels in/wheels out. This means if you flat,
you only get a wheel if you put one in. Vehicles may become neutral (meaning anyone can have a
wheel) if there are surplus of wheels. It is your responsibility to check with your follow vehicle
before your event. If you received a spare during the race, please be considerate and return it
immediately following the race. Campy or other special requirements - bring your own wheels!
Wheel drop off - Take spare wheels to the follow vehicles located South of the Club House
at least 30 minutes before your race. Vehicles will be marked.
Post race wheel pickup - Wheels will be returned to the registration area. Please pick up
your wheels immediately following your race. Do not expect them to be transported to the
RR. The Chico Corsa Cycling Club, sponsors, officials and volunteers are not responsible for
any equipment left at race.
WARMING UP
Paddock Speed Limit = 10mph. No fast riding in driveway, parking lot, or paddock. Absolutely
no warming up on the track! Warm-ups on Hwy 162 not encouraged. The skid pad located on
the East side of the paddock is available for warming up. Trainers highly recommended!

DIRECTIONS
From I-5 take Corning Rd 20 miles West towards Paskenta. Signs for Parking/Registration will be
clearly marked.
PARKING
Riders in the first wave will park their vehicles at Simpson Finell Park just South over the bridge
from Paskenta Community Hall. Riders in the second wave will park their vehicles at the Paskenta
Community Hall (13140 Toomes Camp Rd). Overflow parking, if needed, will be on Toomes Camp Rd
(see map on following pages for details). Please follow the parking directions of volunteers.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The road race course is a 45 mile course consisting of long flats, rolling terrain, and a 5-mile section
of the famous Paskenta gravel which comes ~7 miles before the Finish outside of Paskenta, CA.
2,700ft of climbing per lap. The course is open to traffic. Centerline rule is in effect. Be cautious at
the corners and on the gravel. Finish line is located just outside of the town of Paskenta. 3K to go
will be clearly marked at the top of the hill after the gravel section. There will be a Hot Spot sprint
for Pro/1/2 men only at the finish line during the first lap of the RR.
WHEEL SUPPORT
We will do our best to provide neutral wheel support to everyone. The 2-lap fields will be given
priority. Be prepared to bring your own flat repair kit. All follow vehicles will be wheels in/wheels
out. This means if you flat, you only get a wheel if you put one in. Vehicles may become neutral
(meaning anyone can have a wheel) if there are surplus of wheels. It is your responsibility to check
with your follow vehicle before your event. If you received a spare during the race, please be
considerate and return it immediately following the race. Campy or other special requirements bring your own wheels!

Feeding is only allowed in designated feed zones. Feeders must stay on the shoulder and feed only
from the right side of the road. We will do our best to provide neutral water support but be
prepared to bring extra water. Please make sure you leave nothing behind.
FEED ZONE #1: Team feeders are allowed but encouraged to help other fields. We are a cycling
COMMUNITY. We will do our best to provide neutral water support here. We have limited
bottles/volunteers and racers are encouraged to throw empty bottles here for refilling and donate
bottles prior to race start. Please help the other fields. Please don't throw your bottles down into
the canyon. Please bring CLEAN bottles as dirty ones will be set aside for sterilization/destruction.
Feed zone #1 is located on the North side of Newville Rd just past the Buckhorn Recreation Area on
a roller. (See map for details)
FEED ZONE #2: PARKING IS BY PERMIT ONLY AND LIMITED TO 2-LAP FIELDS. Permits will be
available when you check in. If you do not have a feed zone parking permit, plan on carpooling.
Feed zone #2 is located on the South side of Round Valley Rd 3 miles from the finish on a climb. (See
map for details)
COURSE HAZARDS
For those fields doing two laps, please exercise caution when traveling through the town of
Paskenta. The course is open to traffic. Watch for slow moving vehicles. The gravel can be deep in
some sections and corners.

The start will be neutral rollout from the Community Hall on the first lap until group exits the town
of Paskenta on Paskenta Rd.

PARKING
Stage 3 - River Road Time Trial

DIRECTIONS: The time trial is located just outside of Chico at the intersection of Chico River Rd
and Rose Ave one mile away from the parking area. Please drive carefully and watch for cyclists on
the roadway. Roads are open to traffic. Obey all traffic laws. (See map for details)
PARKING: DO NOT park on private property or in front of homes! Racers are encouraged to
warm up on trainers at the downtown criterium area where there are ample parking
locations/bathrooms. The start is only 1.5 miles from the criterium. There will also be parking and
trainer warm-up locations available at the Rosedale Elementary School parking lot and along Oak
Park Ave. If you do park and warm up at the school, please pack up and leave after your TT finish so
other racers can use the parking.(See map for details)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course is open to traffic. For your safety, please stay to the far
right side of the road. The start line is located right at the intersection of Chico River Rd and Rose
Ave. The course is approximately 10 miles point to point and consists of two 90-degree right hand
turns. Chico River Rd, River Rd, W Sacramento Ave with finish line just before Glenwood Ave. The
roadway has a good shoulder. The terrain is flat and fast with two minor bridge crossings and a
good road surface. The course will be well marked with arrows, marshals at the start, both turns
and finish line. (See map for details)
TT Finish/Return: Turn right on Bidwell Ave immediately after the finish. Ride 1.3 miles to
Rose Ave and turn right. This will take you back to the start.
WHEEL SUPPORT
Is not provided during the TT and team cars are NOT permitted to follow racers.

The course is closed to warm-up session after 8:00am. We recommend warming up on a trainer
downtown. There are also several roads south of Chico River Rd

Stage 4 - Steve Harrison Memorial Chico Downtown Criterium

LOCATION: Downtown Chico on W 5th and Broadway by the Chico City Plaza.
PARKING is located on various locations around the course on the city street in valid parking
spaces.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The criterium course is a flat L-shaped 1Km course. It is traversed in a
counter-clockwise direction. Mostly good smooth/smooth pavement with wide roads. The finish
line is approximately 125 meters after the last corner.
WHEEL PIT is wheels in/wheels out and will be located near the start/finish line.
The Chico Corsa Cycling Club, sponsors, officials and volunteers are not responsible for any
equipment left at the race.
SIGN IN will be located at the Officials table near the start line
FREE LAP rule is in effect. Riders with a mishap may not re-enter the race in the final 8 laps, but
will be given the time of the group that they were with.
LAPPED RIDERS Riders in danger of being lapped may be pulled and given a pro-rated time. This
is at the discretion of the race officials.
