A fines
viajó a Sudáfrica.

Actualmente la cooperativa reúne a mas de cuarenta emisoras de todo el interior de nuestro país;
Constantemente llegan a radio Zorrilla cartas

panorama allí no resultaba demasiado halagüeño.

NOTA DEL EDITOR (Ruben

irradiando a interferência.

Glenn Hauser
Logs June 27-28, 2014
** ASCENSION [and non]. 7355, June 28 at 0539, JBA carrier rather than one of the best BBCWS English signals we can get here. On June 11, as in
DXLD 14-25, Ascension site was confirmed off the air due to unexplained power supply problems, so seems like it is again. The JBA could be BBC
from a substitute site poorly propagating to here. South Africa is doing well as usual on 7285 with Radio Sonder Grense. This also audiblizes some
SSB 2-way on 7352, in Chinese? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** BRAZIL. 5990, June 28 at 0109, RNA is gone again from its extra frequency, nor can I hear it under RHC on 6000.
11750 & 11810, June 28 at 0524, distorted RNA spurs from defective 11780 transmitter are quite audible, but could be, and have been much
worse. Additionally, now splattering directly above and below 11780, out to 11765 so with the 11810 spur next to 11815, QRMing the only two other
Brazilians audible on the band at this time! Way to go, Rodeador (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** BRAZIL. 11815, June 28 at 0526, R. Brasil Central must be on overnight, as here`s Brazilian music, and 0527 Brazuguese announcement; but
QRMed by spur from Brasília`s 11780 transmitter around 11810 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 11840, June 28 at 0117, open carrier/dead air from RHC here, while nominal on 11760, 11670.
13605, June 28 at 0119, DentroCuban Jamming Command against nothing, wasting precious megawatts while Cubans go hungry; R. Martí employs
this frequency only at 13-20. Jamming is quite heavy now, including 3-tones, lo-hi-lo. O, for the good old days of Soviet jamming with frequent Morse
identifiers of the secret sites; their Cuban lapdogs never caught on to that technique (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CYPRUS. 11899-11909 approx., June 28 at 0115, OTH radar pulses intruding, presumed from here, destroying the poor signal from 11905 SRI
LANKA, so no calculation of its mistimesignal tonight.
15178-15202 approx., June 28 at 0120, OTH radar pulses, very different intruders from the ones around 11905, these being lower-pitched and
slower (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU. 5980, June 28 at 0109-0115:28.5*, R. Chaski with some modulation, vs storm noise level, cutoff six seconds later than yesterday (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN [non]. 15550, June 28 at 0535, R. Dabanga, fair signal with 2-note stingers, outshone on 19m only by Australia 15300 & 15240. Can
this really be via UAE as still listed by Aoki as of June 28?
Per HFCC, the A-14 season began with the 0400-0559 transmission (along with R. Tamazuj during the first 29 minutes) as via UAE, but for some
11
weeks now, it`s been shown as MADAGASCAR. That makes more sense propagationally to here, as other ME signals are absent on 19m except for a
trace of 15170 which could be Saudi.
Current HFCC as of June 26 shows no more UAE site at all for these services, just MDC or SMG = Vatican, with a phony start date of 30 March:
0400-0557 15550 MDC, 11650 SMG
1500-1627 15150 MDC, 15550 SMG
It seems big changes are coming 1 July, with these new transmissions for MDG PNW FPU:
0400-0430 7205
0500-0527 15150
1500-1527 11805
These three are also ``Apd`` in the language column, whatever that means, Arabic-something, but the CIRAF zone has been changed to 48SW only
= South Sudan and Uganda. All the other transmissions above have been for 39SW,47E,48W = Yemen, and all of Sudan. Yemen??
It remains to be heard whether the old transmissions are being replaced by the new ones, which seems more likely, or the new ones are in addition.
Judging from the 0400 and 1500 timings, the new ones may be only R. Tamazuj, but what about 0500? If still Dabanga, it`s much reduced. Or could
be something totally new. Must check July 1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 12105, WTWW-3, June 27 at 2213 check, this is now the Arabic hour of Bible Worldwide; UT June 28 at 0108, Pastor Pete Peters (d.) in
English. June 28 at 1714, it`s PPP again (not // 9475); between 18 and 19, still English with Bible stories if not readings; after 1900, Spanish, after
2000 Brazuguese.
Random monitoring the past several days now allows us to put together a language schedule for WTWW-3 12105 service, but don`t hold us to it!
17-18 English (PPP)
18-19 English
19-20 Spanish
20-21 Portuguese
21-22 French
22-23 Arabic
23-24 Yoruba
00-01 Russian
01-02 English (PPP) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [and non]. 9955, June 28 at 0113, WRMI during PCJ show, again interviewing someone with British accent; repeat of older episode?
Strangely with a variety of beep pitches in the background, to go with the noise and pulse jamming; tnx a lot, Arnie! Not going easy on a former coworker at the RHC collective. So are the beeps on the PCJ recording, or from something else? Not like the tones we hear elsewhere/when from Cuban
jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 13906-USB, approx., June 28 at 0530, hard to copy amid hashy QRM, but some vessel is giving its position, 41 N/71 W, I think
(more precisely than I could copy), approaching Long Island from the east with patching against flooding, so presumably a marine rather than
aeronautical mobile. Almost distressed? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Problema com Tecsun PL-660
Boa Tarde Lista.

no meu notebook windows 8.1.
O SDR Sharp possui modulações AM, WFM , NFM , DSB, USB, LSB, CW-L e CW-U.
Estou fazendo algo errado ?

Logs June 28-29, 2014
** BRAZIL. 5990, June 29 at 0603, RNA extra frequency is back on tonight // much stronger 6180 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 6165 // 6100, 6060, 6000, UT Sunday June 29 at 0601, RHC is in weekly Esperanto show instead of English! Espo is supposed to be at
0700 Sundays on only one frequency, but I don`t stay up to check on that. 0615 still Espo music and announcement on all four. Presumably the
studio jumped the gun by an hour on sending the Esperanto half-hour via the same program feed circuit (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. Not much Es to be seen lately as I let the analog TV set snow away on channel A2, until, UT June 28:
2217 on 2, video from the west fades in, to go with indications on the 6m ham map; soon gone again
UT June 29:
0025 on 3, Spanish from the WSW; square bug in UR with italic bold 3 in white/light; at a fade-up I can see it`s XHBC Mexicali with call letters on the
left side, running upward on their sides. Also smaller lettering in a rectangular block on the bottom side of the square; during a ghosty movie; 0028
ads, including mention of ``en ambas Californias`` which is a dead giveaway for XHBC, and Notivisa promo, which also is.
0025 on 2, also something on this channel; 0035 Spanish, Televisa-2 star bug in LR with game(?) show, and nothing on 3 at this time. No more
monitoring this evening (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1727 monitoring: another no-show at 2330 Saturday June 28 on 9930 WTWW.
0030 UT Sunday on 9495 WRMI: confirmed with last week`s #1726
0400 UT Sunday on 5830 WTWW: carrier cuts off the air just as I tune in at 0400 sharp; back on *0401 but no modulation until 0405*, back on with
dead air at *0406-0407*; finally *0414:35 cuts back on air with WOR 1727 in progress. Mid-break comes at 0421, so must have started/restarted
playback about 5 minutes late, perhaps to compensate, unusual. But cut off incomplete at 0430 and back to regular SFAW programming. Next:
0300v UT Monday on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v-CUSB
1100 UT Tuesday on WRMI 9955
0630 UT Wednesday on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
1315 UT Wednesday on WRMI 9955
1430 UT Wednesday on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
2100 UT Wednesday on WBCQ 7490v

files are at: http://www.worldofradio.com/audiomid.html And also podcasts via:http://www.rmrc.de

** U S A. 9930, June 28 from 2313, here`s what I heard on WTWW-2, when checking for WORLD OF RADIO, which normally airs at 2330 Saturdays,
but did not appear last week:
2315, usual gospel music filler after a preacher
2330, gospel music keeps going until:
2334, two canned IDs, and 2335 QSY announcement to 5085
2336, another replay of QSO show from Dayton, still on 9930
2342, QSO is cut off and I thought transmitter went off, but
2352, 9930 is still on but with dead air
2356, QSO show heard again
2359* 9930 cuts off the air abruptly with no QSY announcement now
UT June 29:
0000, 5085 is already on by the time I retune, QSO continues, also at further chex thru 0045 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
NOTE: since approximately 0030 UT June 29, a huge continuous noise level has appeared here, apparently coming from a nearby house. Covers
entire SW spectrum, from S9+10 to S9+25 on the FRG-7, allowing thru only the very strongest signals; also audible on MW. For the duration, this will
seriously curtail my own DXing and monitoring (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
This report delayed for resending following yahoo mail problems earlier. Sorry if there were any duplications.

Logs June 30, 2014
** CHINA. 15175, Monday June 30 at 1319, CNR1 jammer, an echo apart from // 15115; still on 15195 and 15265 this hour. New for me on
15175, and off at recheck 1344. Aoki shows it`s against BBC Uzbek via OMAN scheduled 1300-1330, this frequency only on Mon/Wed/Sat.
16360, June 30 at 1321, CNR1 jammer, fair; also at 1347, good
17480, June 30 at 1322, CNR1 jammer, good // 15175; none in the 18s. Aoki shows this too is vs BBC Uzbek at 1300-1330, in this case, via
Thailand on Sun/Mon/Wed/Fri, since May 14
15970, June 30 at 1345, CNR1 jammer, fair
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGSET)
** CUBA. 9580, June 30 at 0121, CRI English relay is once again cutting the modulation off and on, more off than on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST) See also IRAN
** IRAN [and non]. 6060, June 30 at 0122, RHC Spanish with song, and surprisingly, a fast SAH, indicating co-channel interference from a station
within 15 Hz or so; normally there is a LAH from the Brazilian which has been reported as low as 6059.7. Has that adjusted frequency or is this
something else?
The latter: Aoki reminds us that Iran has just started a Ramazan special service: ``6060 VO ISLAMIC REP.IRAN 0120-0320 1234567 Azeri 500 ND
Kamalabad IRN 3546N 05127E IRIB a14 Jun.28-Jul.29`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. Sporadic E opening, UT June 30:
0044 on 2, from WSW in Spanish, novela, Televisa net-2 star bug LR
0058 on 2, now heavy CCI here
0104 on 2, Gala swirl bug in LR, i.e. Televisa net-9
0105 on 4, local? Music show; Azteca-13 bug in UR (these two typical of Hermosillo, Sonora); after a SW/FM monitoring break, back to TV:
0143 on 2, video from one, audio from another; Gala net-9 promo
0144 on 3, ad for Q resort; glimpse of Stars & Stripes, maybe aimed at Americans for July 4th (later seen definitely on XHBC Mexicali)
0145 on 4, algo, MUF up to here; soon see Televisa-2 star bug LR, and lucky!!! Just before 0146, also white super local ID upper left:
CANAL 4. LOS MOCHIS, SINALOA.
29-06-14
Of course, came and went too quickly to get a photo. Unusual for these to include the date? I have presumably seen this station a number of times
before; it`s really XHBS-TV, 100 kW.
[At this point I also get some FM DX; see USA: 88.3]
0153 on 2, Gala bug in LR
0154 on 3, XHBC bug in UR: it`s the dark blue square with a bold white italic 3 in the middle in a circle; left border, XHBC letters on their sides
reading upwards; across the bottom in tiny font, MEXICALI-CALEXICO. Something else at the top may have been cut off by overscanning. At same
time, generic Televisa squashed-oval bug in LR.
20
With news anchor? Caption reads CARLOS ARGÜELLO / STUDIO C MEDIAWORKS.
0158 on 3, large on screen: TELEVISA / BAJA CALIFORNIA; `Hola Mexicali` program promo for 2 de julio.
Photo of N logo of Notivisa on snowy XHBC picture at 0202: http://www.w4uvh.net/xhbc4.jpg
0203 on 5, briefly Azteca-13 bug LR, no doubt XHAQ also Mexicali
0204 on 3 and onwards, lengthy interview by leggy woman with Eva Longoria, all in English with open Spanish captions. Eva explains that she`s of
Mexican heritage but a ninth-generation American from Texas; parents speak Spanish to each other but not to her; is snow free much of the time, but
heavy ghosting.
0205 on 3, photos of XHBC (sorry, my monitor is ``folding over`` at the top of screen, but you can still see the ``3`` bugs in the UR)
Eva by herself: http://www.w4uvh.net/xhbc4.jpg Eva with leggy interviewer: http://www.w4uvh.net/xhbc5.jpg
Eva interview with Spanish caption: http://www.w4uvh.net/xhbc6.jpg To be added to http://www.worldofradio.com/tvdxfoto.html
0206 on 3, Eva iv interrupted for ``Somos Amigos del Aire`` XHBC-3 promo, anti-pollution? federal PSA; Copa promo
0219 on 3, after another commercial break, cut back abruptly to Eva iv in progress as if there were not any natural breaks in it; prompted by the
interviewer, she is lamenting how tough it is to be both beautiful and bright. Then fade out for a while
0224 on 2, two stations at same offset CCI from SW; one with a pasodoble, dance competition show? on Televisa-2 net
0227 on 3 & 4, algo
0228 on 3, poor signal about the Copa from Televisa Deportes
0247 on 3, XHBC fades back in, still the interview with Eva Longoria
0248 on 3, ad on XHBC for Q – Quechan Casino Report (which is not in the Andes, but Winterhaven CA, across from Yuma AZ)
0254 on 3, XHBC audio mixing with something else, football?
0320 on 3, XHBC still in poorly
0358 on 2, bit of f-bug in LR from SW, i.e. Televisa-4 net
Another Sporadic E opening, June 30 UT:
1406 on 2, f bug in LR from south, i.e. Televisa-4 net or relay
1415 on 2, TELEACTIVA bug in UR, i.e. XEFB-TV, Monterrey NL
1416 on 4, algo
1435 on 2, talk show, Azteca-13 bug in UR
1445 on 2, nothing but CCI now
1507 on 2, Azteca 13 bug in UR, very poor
1529 on 2, TU CANAL bug in UR, 9:29 AM clock during detailed horoscope nonsense by YL, from Aries onward, i.e. XEPM-TV Ciudad Juárez,
Chihuahua, still going at 1537
1540 on 2, local Ciudad Juárez ad; in `Hola, Juárez` show, with its large but lower-case j logo
Then I have to go out, but no Es noted on lower FM caradio (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 960, June 30 at 0503 UT, KGWA Enid Fox-hole is not quite dead-air; again can barely hear some music, which matches that on
103.1, its sibling station KOFM from the same tower site. The 960 signal can still be mostly nulled audiblizing jumble of other stations, but at precise
null position big hum surges, so need to rotate slighty off full null (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 88.3, June 30 at 0118 UT, as I am tuning for possible Es DX, I notice that KOSR, the recently added low-power relay for Stillwater
itself, with a marginal signal here, of KOSU 91.7 ``Stillwater`` but really closer to OKC with degraded signal in the home city, is running about 1
second ahead of 91.7; why? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU. 5980, June 30 at 0114, R. Chaski carrier barely audible thru the noise, until cutoff at 0115:40* which is 11.5 seconds later than 48 hours
ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1727 monitoring: confirmed on Area 51 webcast, starting slightly before 0300 UT Monday June 30; later barely audible
in noise level on WBCQ 5110v-CUSB. Next:
Tuesday 1100 and Wednesday 1315 on WRMI, 9955
Wednesday 0630 & 1430 on Hamburger Lokalradio, 7265-CUSB
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5050, June 30 at 0121, open carrier/dead air from WWRB, and for at least several minutes thereafter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. 0147 on 88.1, standing by for Es MUF to enter FM, here`s an operatic excerpt fading up from nothing; 0149 Porgy & Bess outro in English;
followed this for 10 minutes, including song about seafood, ``Baby, I Can Cook``; from ``On the Town``; ``Sara Lee`` sure sounded like Mandy
Potëmkin, but outro as Jim Walton; faked out by: KWOU Woodward OK, marginal public radio relaying KGOU 106.3 Norman; at 0159 closing PRX.org
`Footlight Parade` show with reference to musicaltheatreproject.org as ACI from 88.3 grows so over to it:
0148 on 88.3, Mexican music fades in strong; this is certainly Es, but is it really Mexican? Fade out and I stick to 88.1 instead until 0200 when 88.3
overcomes, as recorded: ad mentioning Tepic??? I listen to recording over and over, sure what it sounds like, yet there are some Anglo words mixed
in, and there are NO 88.3s in Tepic, Nayarit listed anywhere, nor is this in the area I am otherwise getting. In fact, 88.3 is the one FM frequency with
only one Mexican listed on it, faraway in Tapachula, Chiapas. More below.
More notes from my 88.3 recording 0202 UT onwards: promo for Reforma Migratoria --- that makes it more likely American than Mexican. Slogan as
``La Campesina 88.3``. Ad for a concert sponsored by Bud Light, with groups from Tijuana, Sinaloa (not to be taken as local ID clues!), then
``¡¡¡La estación líder en eventos, La Campesina, no más!!!`` (much quoted here should be accompanied by six exclamations, uttered by superhype voice actor [SHVA]). More ads, including a Mexican grill, Águila radio-taxis; about a remote from Talking Stick (?) Resort, at Indian Bend.
21
Arizona`` (the legal ID part for KNAI in accented English altho not required to be).
reforma, ¡¡¡sí, se puede!!!`` Into music and shortly fading out. Listen to 3:49 clip: http://www.w4uvh.net/KNAI2.mp3
See DXLD 12-18 when I last heard KNAI on July 9, 2012. My comments are still the same:
```These are fully-produced hard-sell commercials, not ``underwriting announcements`` by any stretch of the imagination! How do they get away
with operating a commercial station so blatantly on the non-commercial band? César Chávez should be ashamed; his foundation runs it.
BTW, it`s almost a vanishing breed, apparently a share-timer with KPHF of Family Radio. W9WI.com shows them both licensed with exactly same
22.500 kW power, same latitude 33-35-47.00N, but different longitudes and antenna heights: 112-5-29.00W and 304m for KNAI; 112-5-31.00W
and 297m for KPHF; so are they really not sharing the same transmitter and antenna? What a waste. Is there anything in the FCC licensing info
about how the time is shared?```
Current WTFDA database still shows both KNAI & KPHF on 88.3 in Phœnix.
What about the ``Tepic`` local reference I heard first? Re-listening to my 0:43 recording of that: http://www.w4uvh.net/KNAI1.mp3
ads for the Chef Store, also on Facebook, but when I find it there, it`s all about Santiago, Chile! Restaurant supplies, job openings. Listening again,
address for it announced is 3115 --- something --- Drive. In case this was the same Phœnix station, I google search on that and land the answer: Chef
Store, 3115 South McClintock Drive, in TEMPE! Which is pronounced tem-PEE, almost like teh-PEEK (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
NOTE: thanks to several for comments on my sudden high noise problem on SW, with advice, own horror stories, commiseration. Since then, it`s
sometimes a bit lower or intermittent; and I find monitoring from a neighbor`s porch further away, and with a longer wire, helps, tho less convenient
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
VOA – The Good Oil
Thanks to The SWLing Post, below are the details of changes to the Voice of America broadcasts. The info was provided by Letitia King, spokeswoman
for the Broadcasting Board of Governors.
Facts and Figures on Shortwave Broadcast Reductions
June 30, 2014
U.S. international media must optimize program delivery by market. We are ending some shortwave transmissions. We continue shortwave to those
countries where these transmissions are still reaching significant audiences or where there are no reasonable alternative platforms at a lower cost to
the BBG.
The shortwave reductions will save U.S. taxpayers almost $1.6 million annually.
There are no reductions in staff or programming – these are transmission platform reductions only. Programming continues to be available through
other media.
Shortwave transmissions continue in many languages including to key shortwave markets like North Korea, Nigeria, Somalia, Horn of Africa, and
elsewhere. (List enclosed below). Transmissions also continue on other platforms including AM, FM, TV and online.
VOA Azerbaijani
Cuts: 30 minutes SW
Continuing Distribution: Satellite TV (HotBird)and satellite audio (TurkSat); Multimedia web and mobile sites & social media
22
SW is used by just 2% of adults weekly in Azerbaijan, and does not yield significant audiences for the service (0.4% weekly reach on radio in BBG’s
most recent survey). By contrast, satellite dish ownership is widespread, at 56%, and 18% use the Internet weekly. The service has both satellite and
online products, which are far more likely to reach audiences in Azerbaijan.
VOA Bangla
Cuts: 1 hour SW
Continuing Distribution: 1 hour MW(AM); FM and TV affiliates; Multimedia web and mobile sites; Social media
SW is not widely used in Bangladesh (just 2% weekly), and the majority of the service’s audience comes to its programming via FM and TV affiliate
networks in the country.
VOA English (in Asia)
Cuts: 6.5 hours SW (2 hours of programming that was repeated)
Continuing Distribution: Some MW; Multimedia web and mobile sites & social media
Outside of sub-Saharan Africa, English speakers are rarely users of shortwave radio. They are more likely to be educated and affluent, and to have
access to a broad range of media. Years of BBG research questions on consumption of VOA English on shortwave have failed to find any significant
audiences outside Africa, in large part because usage of shortwave radio in other regions is mostly very low.
VOA Lao
Cuts: 30 minutes SW
Continuing Distribution: 30 minutes MW; 7 affiliates in Thailand on Lao border, with reach into Laos; Multimedia web and mobile sites; Social media
SW is very little-used in Laos – less than 1% of adults report listening to SW radio weekly. In BBG’s most recent research in Laos, no surveyed
listeners reported using the SW band to access VOA content. A strong majority (66%) hear VOA on FM, through affiliate stations on the Thai border
that carry VOA content (Laos is so small that border FM stations have decent penetration into the country).
VOA Special/Learning English
Cuts: 5.5 hours SW
Continuing Distribution: Learning English programs continue on SW on English to Africa. 30 minutes MW; Multimedia web and mobile sites, including
special interactive teaching products; Social media, including social English lessons
BBG audience research indicates strong interest in learning English, but very limited shortwave listenership to VOA Learning English, outside a few
select markets. The service is working more closely with other VOA language services to create English learning products for distribution on more
popular channels. And Learning English offers a variety of digital products that are increasingly popular, including a Skype call-in show, videos on
YouTube, and a website featuring both audio and transcripts for online audiences to follow as they listen.
RFE/RL Persian (Farda)
Cuts: 1 simultaneous SW frequency for 6 broadcast hours
Continuing Distribution: SW on multiple frequencies for all 24 broadcast hours remains on, in addition to 24 hours daily MW; “Radio on TV” on VOA
Persian stream; 24 hours daily satellite audio with slate plus 24 hour Audio on 4 other satellites including Hotbird, the most popular satellite in Iran;
Multimedia website (with circumvention tools deployed); Social media; mobile app with anti-censorship proxy server capability built-in.
This is only a reduction to the number of simultaneous frequencies during some of the broadcast day. SW radio, with 5% weekly use in 2012, is
considerably less popular than other platforms on which audiences can access Farda content, such as MW (10% weekly use), satellite television
(26% own a dish, and 33% watch satellite television weekly) or the internet (39% weekly use).
RFA Lao
Cuts: 2 hours SW
Continuing Distribution: 5 FM radio affiliates in Thailand provide cross-border coverage; Multimedia web & mobile sites; Social media
SW is very little-used in Laos – less than 1% of adults report listening to SW radio weekly. RFA Lao’s listeners come overwhelmingly via FM stations on
the Thai border – 94% of past-week listeners report hearing RFA on FM. (Laos is so small that border FM stations have decent penetration into the
country).
Logs June 30-July 1, 2014
** ALASKA. 9910, July 1 at 1301, KNLS IS, 1302 opening Chinese with website smzg.org pronounced in English (I assume those letters have some
significance in romanized Mandarin, meaning maybe New Life Station??). Fair signal, and am pleased to find my local high noise level is off at least
for now (later, on and off intermittently, and not so pervasive thruout HF). KNLS reception is unusual enough here off the back of Anchor Point to be
noteworthy (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA. 18980, July 1 at 1334, CNR1 jammer, with SAH presumably from RFA Tibetan via KUWAIT as this is its Tue & Fri frequency during this
hour. No others 12-19 MHz now with degraded propagation, except:
15195, July 1 at 1337, Firedrake jammer atop victim with SAH; 1348 a little more CCI; vs IBB Tibetan via TAJKISTAN at 12-14; and the usual big
CNR1 clash on 15115
9845, July 1 at 1403, CNR1 jammer, fair vs IBB Chinese via THAILAND a 14-15 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 6165, July 1 at 0554, RHC missing from this frequency, while overkill English is nominal on 6100, 6060, 6000, 5040. Unfortunately,
nothing else to be heard on 6165, like silent Chad.
15370, July 1 at 1400, RHC missing from here, altho it was on in the previous hour, while 15340 continues (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** KUWAIT [and non]. 21540, July 1 at 1311, R. Kuwait, poor with orchestral music, 1333 Arabic talk. Rarely listenable level any more if at all; SSOB
with much weaker one from nearby 21505 Saudi, while Spain is not audible at all on 13m, if still broadcasting (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** MEXICO. Photo linx in previous report were 1 number off; corrected:
0205 June 30 on 3, photos of XHBC Mexicali (sorry, my monitor is ``folding over`` at top of screen, but can still see ``3`` bugs in UR)
Eva with leggy interviewer: http://www.w4uvh.net/xhbc6.jpg
Eva Longoria by herself: http://www.w4uvh.net/xhbc5.jpg
Eva English interview with Spanish caption about wearing makeup: http://www.w4uvh.net/xhbc7.jpg
Now added to http://www.worldofradio.com/tvdxfoto.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU. 5980, July 1 until 0115:46*, R. Chaski carrier with some modulation, cut off six seconds later than yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN [and non]. As I mentioned before, HFCC showed some new MADAGASCAR registrations by PNW (Press Now, same organization airing R.
Tamazuj and R. Dabanga) dated to start 010714, so I am monitoring for them, but they are no-shows. Maybe they are really ``startin`` later than
that on a date cut off from the HFCC remarx. Not heard:
7205, July 1 at 0400
15150, July 1 at 0500
11805, July 1 at 1500 (but unlikely to be audible here even if on)
Thorsten Hallmann in Germany and Noel Green in England agree on nothing being heard yet on 11805.
Existing transmissions have been reconfirmed, presumably starting with R. Tamazuj:
15550, July 1 at 0400, fair via Madagascar
11650, July 1 at 0400, fair via Vatican with whine jamming
15550, July 1 at 1500, fair via Vatican
15150, July 1 at 1500, JBA signal presumably via Madagascar
Thorsten & Noel also agree on the 1500 frequencies
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9885, July 1 at 0127-0128* strong OC, probably Greenville-B tuning up for a later transmission to Africa, French at 0600, which still exist
(despite IBB Tibetan via Tajikistan listed already on 9885 at 01-03), but:
9825, July 1 at 0126, no signal nor later from the last remaining VOA English broadcast to the Americas, at 0130-0200 Tue-Sat, which had been for
Learning purposes, now deleted (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 12105, July 1 at 0130, WTWW-3 is off, while -2 on 5085 and -1 on 9475 are on. -3 normally runs 17-02 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
Beginner's Classroom For August 2014
Software for the Radio Listener
I've been spending some time trolling the Internet (I don't surf... I'm not that good at keeping my balance), and I've come across a few pieces of
software that may interest the SW and MW hobbyist. There is a myriad of software packages available for ham radio operators, but in this Classroom
I'd like to focus on those for the radio listener.
RADIO EXPLORER is a software program designed by Dmitry Nefedov. The basic configuration of the software is an extensive combination of
chart/spreadsheet/map, designed to assist the shortwave listener in his/her quest for stations, frequencies and the like. Different modes allow for
varied gathering of information.
The Stations view offers a combination chart/spreadsheet look at stations, when they are on air, and at which frequencies they are operating. The
look in this view is similar to our own World English Survey. The MiniMUF view is a curved chart showing an individual frequency and station, when
they are broadcasting, and when it is best to hear them. There is a map view that allows you to choose a location and see the MUF (Maximum Usable
Frequency) for that location, and when best to listen. There is also a print mode and an extensive help section to assist you in your use of the program
while listening to the bands.
The Radio Explorer website is located at www.radioexplorer.com.ru/en, and the current version is 2.7.7.
DXtreme RECEPTION LOG SOFTWARE is one of the two DXtreme packages offered by Bob Raymond, NE1I. I have spoken about DXtreme previously in
my Helping Hand Column. Bob also offers an amateur radio logging software package. This listener's logging software has just been
updated, and the current version is 9.0 . You can access information for the software at www.dxtreme.com.
There are many facets to this logging program. In the Schedule Checker, you can check the Aoki, EiBi and FCC MW broadcasting schedules. The DX
Atlas view allows you to check and perform azimuth plots to and from your location to a specific broadcaster. There is a Reception Log window which
allows you to keep a detailed log of stations heard. You can prepare and print SWL and Address Labels straight from the program to your printer. One
of the most interesting perks offered by this program is that you can use either the Schedule Checker or Reception Log area to directly tune your
receiver to a specific station. This and so much more is available with the newest version of DXtreme Reception Log.
The WiNRADiO Communications company offers an alternative to the traditional straight hardware receiver. WiNRADiO offers many types of receivers,
and although there is a hardware piece that looks vaguely like the inside of a traditional radio, much of the work is done by software used in
conjunction with the hardware so you can listen directly from your computer.
WiNRADiO's website is located at www.winradio.com. One of their newer receivers is the WR-G33DDC Excalibur Pro. It covers from 9 to 49 995 kHz in
various modes with selectable bandwidths. To see a complete overview of the Excalibur Pro complete with software that is available for the receiver,
go to www.winradio.com/home/g33ddc.htm. For MW radio, you can download the current version of WiNRADiO (3.0) as freeware from
www.fileguru.com/apps/medium_wave_radio.
A webpage entitled DON'S SOFTWARE PAGES includes a number of interesting, free software pieces, some of which are designed with the SWL in
mind. Software items include EasiSWL, a logging program for shortwave; BCLog, a similar logging tool for MW; EasiCQWW, a logging program for the
CQ WW contest.
Don has two requests for the downloading. If you like a particular program, please e-mail him with your comments and support. Second, please
consider sending a donation to the Blind Veterans UK Amateur Radio Society, if you are using any of his programs. To see these programs and a
complete list of what is available, go to www.easilog.co.uk.
There are also a number of other logging programs, mostly freeware, that can be found on the Internet. As well, there are programs to directly
interface with a particular receiver... contact the manufacturer of your receiver, or go to their website for more information. If you have a favourite
piece of software that you use regularly, let me know about it and I will feature it in a future Classroom.
Have a great August... enjoy the weather, the sports, and the listening!
Logs July 1-2, 2014
** BRAZIL. 4754.9, July 2 at 0118, very poor signal with music, talk on the lo side of 4755; presumed R. Imaculada Conceição, as usual off
frequency (In January, Dave Valko had it on 4754.8; Scott Barbour on 4754.92). It`s 10 kW, ZYF904 in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. Not
much else from Brasil on 60m now but a few other carriers (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** BRAZIL. 5990, July 2 at 0114, RNA extra frequency is on tonight, fair signal with music // much stronger 6180, also at 0543 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA. 17485, July 2 at 1412, CNR1 jammer, fair vs the M/W/F 14-15 frequency of IBB Tibetan via Thailand. Cursory scan of 12-19 MHz found
no others, but some probably obscured by the accursèd neighborly high noise level I have been hit with (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 6000, UT Wed July 2 at 0537, Arnie is again phoning-in `DXers Unlimited` to RHC studio, i.e. telco-quality audio compared to the canned
open & close, featuring the 6000 English frequency which he explains at 01-05 uses a curtain covering the east coast from northern FL up to the
Canadian Maritimes; at 05-07 switches to antenna toward the Pacific coast of North America, but also reaching Hawaii, Japan, Australia, New
Zealand (here in OK there is not much difference). 5040 is omnidirexional on NVIS (near vertical incidence skywave) dipole antenna, but admits it
also has several low-angle lobes. Arnie hasn`t updated his blog with DXUL scripts since September 29, 2013, where one may skim thru his extremely
repetitive topix for anything of possible interest (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. Bits of sporadic E above 54 MHz: nothing during the day on July 1, but snow-patrol on analog 2 set finally gets something July 2, UT:
0306 on 2, talkshow from TELEFUTURA bug in UR fades in weakly = XEFB-TV, Monterrey NL; also algo on 3
27
Bits of video continue to show occasionally on 2 past 0435, maybe same station. Some may be meteor bursts (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 91.7, KOSU Stillwater/OKC, current promotional slogan is ``KOSU and The Spy --- Crazy-Smart Radio``. As it`s about to enter its
third year of this Hyde-Jekyll deal: public radio talk in the daytime, indie music at night, and classical banned. Spy alludes to former format of its
commercial competitor in Stillwater, KSPI 93.9/93.7, which lived on the web until KOSU decided to broadcast it and allegedly pull in more financial
support (Glenn Hauser, Enid, July 1, 2014, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU. 5980, July 2 at 0115-0115:51.5*, R. Chaski JBA carrier until cutoff, 5.5 seconds later than yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U K [non]. 7355, July 2 at 0543, BBCWS in English, 102 degrees via Ascension to Africa is still missing from what had been its best incidental
frequency in North America. Perhaps we jinxed it by pointing that out, so it was reaching too many listeners here who are forbidden to hear BBCWS on
SW? Am I just kidding?
HFCC still shows 7355 at 05-06, but starting 110614, until 301014. It was certainly on the air long before 11 June, but maybe some parameter
change was made then. We previously suspected it was only off temporarily due to another power failure at ASC; has anyone noticed other scheduled
frequencies from there to be absent? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [non]. 11995, July 2 at 0547, VOA Kurdish is still on the air here, fair signal, and at 0548 pronouncing [email protected] address.
Kurdish was on the list of SW services to be cancelled, per a BBGWatch post of June 28, but reprieved? Not on an official Operational Memo dated
June 29 listing all the cuts. 11995 is via VATICAN at 05-06, and successfully airing today unlike my previous log of June 27 when it dumped off at
0500. Ivo Ivanov confirms Kurdish continued July 1-2 via various sites: 05-06 on 11995, 15560, 17870; 14-15 on 15370, 17870; 17-18 on 7365,
9850, 11995; and Noel Green, England also confirms the two 14-15 frequencies.
Kai Ludwig in Germany has just written July 2: ``Hi Glenn, from the work place, in case an analysis is still missing: What has *not* been taken off
shortwave, contrary to BBG Watch June 28, are VOA Kurdish, VOA Bengali, VOA Khmer and RFA Khmer plus any of the RFE/RL transmissions. Last
night I checked for RFE/RL Belarus shortly before 1800, and indeed it was still on both 5930 and 6105, with 6105 being noticeably weaker than the
Lampertheim signal the evening before, consistent with the specified change of the antenna configuration. So the operational memo, issued June 29,
obviously reflects the real situation.
One has to wonder what happened during the last few days. Is it a big bunch of internal disinformation that got reported June 28? Or have "they",
whoever "they" may be (the usual bbg.gov PR, featuring governors meeting in a TV Martí studio etc., appears to be half of the truth at best), changed
their mind again during the weekend? Either way it is beyond me what this has to do with strategic planning at all. It looks like plain management by
chaos. Or was it the result of a panic that they suddenly had to save $$$ somehow?
It is also noteworthy how BBG Watch is meanwhile just one big rage against the machine. One must conclude that this reflects the morale amongst
the staff. Good luck with such a broken organization! All the best, Kai`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1727 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday July 2 at 1315 on WRMI 9955; JBA here tnx to high noise level. Next: Wed 2100
on WBCQ 7490v. Expect to have new 1728 ready to go by 0330 UT Thursday on 9955, also at 1230 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 12105, July 1 at 2027, WTWW-3 is off, and so is 9475, WTWW-1, while 9930, WTWW-2 is on with BS.
12105, July 2 at 0123, WTWW-3 is still off, but 9475, WTWW-1 is on, as well as 5085, WTWW-2, as usual now making an earlier switch than -1 to its
night frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9370, July 2 at 0535, WWRB with BS has stayed on day frequency at night, nothing on 3185; 9370 much stronger than 9955 BS (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 17775, July 2 at 1413, KVOH Spanish is still having problems with undermodulation, distortion (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
New Island Radio Pacific Style feature
www.radioheritage.net - July 3 2014 - Media Release
New Island Radio Pacific Style feature
We've dug deep in the archives and found a fascinating feature from way back in 1961 when the Pacific island of Tonga started up its first radio
station.
The opening ceremony was done by Queen Salote of Tonga, and we have photos of her arriving and speaking at the opening. We also have a photo
inside the main studio, and the studio building, as well as details of the first staff of the Tonga Broadcasting Commission.
You'll find the full feature at www.radioheritage.net/Story358.asp and it's already been shared with people in Tonga, Fiji and Samoa who have
enjoyed listening to the station for over 50 years.
As well, we found a special item in one of our collections, what is believed to be the first letter sent confirming reception of ZCO Tonga. This was for a
test broadcast earlier in the year....and it's included in the feature.
ZCO Tonga 'The Call of the Friendly Islands' has gone on to become one of the best known radio stations in the South Pacific. It's now known as A3Z,
and still broadcasts to Tonga and other parts of the South Pacific that get its powerful signal.
We hope you'll enjoy this special feature brought to you by our worldwide team of financial supporters. They make all our features possible for
thousands to enjoy every week.
If you'd like to join our team of worldwide supporters, the Pay It Forward level starts at $5, the Regular level is $25 and there are many more options.
Full details are at our website www.radioheritage.net and we look forward to including you on our Roll of Honor very soon.
Logs July 3, 2014
** AUSTRALIA. 13630, July 3 at 0524, open carrier/dead air from what had been a VG RA frequency. Still OC/DA at several chex past 0600 until I
quit at 0618. 15300 > 15240 > 15415 were however nominal. What`s going on at Shepparton? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** BRAZIL. 5990+, July 3 at 0117, RNA active again on extra frequency, and noticeably on hi side compared to WWV, RHC, CRI, etc. (Glen Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** INDIA. 13710, July 3 at 1408, raucous music with drumming (not Firedrake) sounds like a loop repeating without any pauses every 7-8 seconds!
At this hour it`s either AIR GOS or CRI English which usually gets the better of AIR, but certainly not the programming CRI would be running near
hourtop. 1413 a bit of talk CCI. 1417 the music tempo slows and begins to vary a bit; 1420 into English talk mentioning New Delhi. So it is AIR, which
I could not // to 9690, too little signal if any vs hi noise level (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 1000, July 3 at 0542 UT, Mexican music looping WSW, and dominating vs dead air from KTOK OKC at right angle. No doubt XEFV Juárez
which I can often hear even when KTOK modulates. 0600 UT no ID but segué from non-anthem to orchestral ``Mexicanos, al Grito de Guerra``,
indicating it`s midnight in the UT -6 zone. Then at 0602 UT, full ID for ``XEFV La Rancherita`` with street address (studio/business no doubt, never
transmitter site) in Ciudad Juárez. Meanwhile also getting weaker XEOY; see separate log (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 1000, July 3 at 0600 UT, slow music from SSW, vs jaunty Mexican NA from WSW Juárez XEFV, both facilitated by dead air from KTOK
OKC, and 0601 UT ``somos Radio Mil`` ID, from XEOY, but remaining weaker than Juárez. BTW, // 6010 XEOI has been off the air again for 3 or 4
months lacking a replacement tube (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also USA 590 --- no KXSP but probably XEPH
** MEXICO. 1140, July 3 at 0607 UT, XEMR, Radio Esperanza also with slogan ``Manantial de Música``, ID with street address in Monterrey, into
show ``Jesús Pronto Volverá`` --- yeah, right; they`ve been saying that for 2 kiloyears. Is the dominant nite signal here on 1140 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. On the lookout for sporadic E, antenna south, from 1430 UT or so July 3 until it breaks out despite nothing much on G7IZU 6m map:
1512 on 2, fade in algo from south
1520 on 2, Spanish promo ``en el siete``, so Azteca-7 net, most likely XHTAU Tampico; 1525 menacing robomonster animation, net-7 bug in UR
1550 on 2, animated ID for Azteca
1551 on 4, other animation from Televisa net-5, with bug in LR
1557 on 4, novela with Televisa net-2 star bug in LR, unID bug in LL; also 20 kHz offset CCI. At 1558 one of them supers across top of screen in big
bright letters, XELN-TV4, which is 100 kW in Torreón, Coahuila, and which W9WI.com lists as with Televisa-5, and zero-offset, which if correct could
29
not produce fine 20-kHz beat bars with anything else
1558 on 2, Aztecarioca studio show handling soccer ball, pre-game?
1559 on 4, Gala swirl bug in upper left, unusual, during novela. Only one listed in W9WI.com is XHGK-TV, 100 kW in Tapachula, Chiapas, but I am not
convinced. But Bill Hepburn`s updated ch 4 map, http://www.dxinfocentre.com/TV4.pdf shows XELN-TV as Gala, rather than the number 9, and
Chiapas remains cut off the map, too far south --- one more inch would cover all of Mexico
1612 on 3, algo, studio soccer; unID bug in UR
1616 on 3, Pingüinos de Madagascar animation, net-5 LR, so starting earlier than 11:30 am today
1641 on 5, exercising, Televisa net-2 star bug LR
1642 on 6, algo, studio talk
(I have also been monitoring 87.75, 88.1 and 88.3, but no MUF into FM)
1705 on 5, Pingüinos from Televisa 5
1710 onwards, opening diminishes, just in time for lunch
1748 on 2, still weak CCI and at times also on 3
1758 on 3, old-style movie credits, gunshots, must be western, seems opening rather than closing; bug in UR I can`t make out.
1802 on 4, graphic reading BANCO CENTRAL -----; 1804 financial graph
1805 on 3, western is in again, hero in white hat but unseems El Llanero Solitario; unknown bug in UR, too close to corner
1810 on 3, Televisa-5 but LR, animalation dubbed into Spanish, surely originally speaking English
1815 on 3, better view of them, a bitch and a dog --- rather like Lady & the Tramp? Haven`t seen it in sesquidecades. No, dog is more wolfy than
woofy, and so is she. Has rodramatic music score; 1817 Canal 5 promo, CCI
1818 on 4, still financial discussion audio at least; 1821, up to color briefly, host welcomes YL to ``her`` studio
1818 on 5, MUF back up to here weakly with algo ads
1831 on 3, wolves vs bears in feature-animation, // on 2, but less CCI on 3; definitely net-5 bug in LR, but this does *not* match their national
schedule: http://www.televisa.com/canal5/horarios/ with a series of half-hour cartoon shows
Weak opening still going on ch 2 and 3 as I wrap up this report at 1845 UT July 3 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1000, July 3 at 0542 past 0600 UT, KTOK OKC is open carrier/dead air. Is no one paying attention at Clear Channel? Fine with me as
that facilitates hearing two XEs --- see MEXICO (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 91.7, July 3 at 1406 UT, KOSU news had an item about this, which I then searched out:
'Cherokee Voices, Cherokee Sounds' marks ten year anniversary in Oklahoma --- 4:33 PM, Jul 2, 2014
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) -- The only radio program in Oklahoma to air in the Cherokee language is marking its 10-year anniversary
"Cherokee Voices, Cherokee Sounds" is an hour-long program in both the Cherokee and English languages and includes Cherokee music, interviews
with elder speakers and information about tribal community news.
It debuted in 2004 and continues to expose the Cherokee language and culture to people around the world.
The radio program airs on five stations within the Cherokee Nation's tribal jurisdiction and can be heard on
Viz., along with access to a large archive of 600+ shows:
The "Cherokee Voices, Cherokee Sounds" radio show, with host Dennis Sixkiller, includes music in the Cherokee language, interviews with Cherokee
elders and information on programs that the Cherokee Nation has to offer, as well as the latest Cherokee Nation community news.
airs on Siloam Springs AR, station KUOA – 1290 AM, on Sundays from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. (via DXLD) CDT = UT -5
** PERU. 5980, July 3 at 0115-0115:57.5*, R. Chaski carrier is still detectable despite the high local noise level which is worse on the higher bands,
cutoff six seconds later than yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U K [non?]. 7355, July 3 at 0520, BBCWS in English, very poor but detectable unlike previous nights. Not the bigsig we used to get from
unfavorable for us (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 570, July 3 at 0528 UT, here`s Jim Bohannon where unheard previously, so added another station? Suspect KGRT Las Cruces NM, atop
``RR`` QRM from Cuba, and maybe KLIF Dallas. Station finder at http://www.jimbotalk.net has been updated to include KTRS 550 St Louis which
I discovered last week, but NO listing for 570s in NM, TX or SD.
http://www.kgrt570.com/ still calls itself ``Classic Country``, with no sign of Jimbo there and lacks a plain old program schedule. Break at 05290532 UT is filled with PSAs instead of ads, including one promo/ID mentioning 570 and 93.3 FM, but there is no 93.3 anywhere near Las Cruces.
(KGRT is often audible at night despite listed 155 watt power vs 5000 watts day).
Second choice is KLIF in Dallas, and by golly they do have an FM on 93.3, per WTFDA DB: ``KLIF-FM 93.3 HALTOM CITY TX 50.0 120.0 I 93 TODAY'S
HIT MUSIC CONTEMPORARY HIT RADIO`` Altho presumably not // talk on 570? Maybe an HD sub duplicates 570.
Finally brought up KLIF program Schedule http://www.klif.com/common/more.php?m=10&mode=schedule&r=2 which does now show Jim
Bohannon UT Tue-Sat 0400-0700, Sat extended to 1000 UT. That`s some balance for far-right wackos Laura Ingraham and Dennis Miller occupying
daytime 14-20 UT. Congrats to JimBo for adding another major market this week! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [non]. 590, July 3 at 0534 UT, no sign of KXSP Omaha NE, just continuous Mexican music segués, probably tropical XEPH in the DF. Hard to
believe KXSP is even on the air with its 5 kW U1 non-direxional normally dominating; and 610 KCSP is inbooming as usual. If there`s an auroral zone
cutoff, it`s between Omaha and Kansas City. But 1180 sports is in well, presumably 1 kW KZOT Omaha (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 750, July 3 at 0540 UT, quick check finds cheating KAMA El Paso still dominant with Univisión América Spanish talk; goodbye, WSB (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1060, July 3 at 0549 UT, open carrier, dead air, from WSW, no doubt usual night cheater KIJN Farwell TX, since the carrier still makes it
characteristic off-frequency fast SAH with anything else on 1060.00. That`s a start; have they got religion? Now all they need to do, In Jesus` Name,
is turn off the carrier, too. (What`s with all the dead air tonight? Also KTOK 1000, and Radio Australia 13630) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** U S A. 1130, July 3 at 0606 UT, `When Radio Was` is starting on steady signal, loopable away from KWKH Shreveport with sportstalk. Strongly
suspect my closest, KLEY Wellington KS, which is supposed to run ONE watt at night vs 250 watts daytime. Program schedule is blank:
Amigos, uma emissora que venho ouvindo por aqui, é a Radio Dardasha. Não sei exatamente de onde ela é e o seu sinal chega relativamente bem
por aqui na frequência de 9.515 kHz, das 20:30 ás 20:45 UTC, em árabe. No site da emissora diz que essa transmissão em 9.515 kHz é para o
Marrocos, Líbia e Algeria. Ontem enviei um informe de recepção a ela com um áudio em anexo. Hoje recebi uma resposta da emissora.
Eis o que diz o e-mail da emissora:
Dear Friend, Thank you for your report, it is accurate.
Best Regards, Radio Dardasha7 Team. www.dardasha7.com
Vamos ver se irei receber o respectivo cartão QSL ou uma carta QSL.
Fiz boas escutas ontem e hoje com a minha Loop Blindada e meu receptor Degen DE1103. Fiz as escutas na edícula nos fundos da minha casa.
Lá tem duas mesas que estão sem as panelas de comida. Nós almoçamos lá na edícula e dpois do almoço, minha mãe deixa as panelas lá mesmo
para guardá-las só a noite. Então acaba não tendo muito espaço para colocar as minhas coisas (receptor, antena, etc). Como eles viajaram, as
mesas estão com mais espaço (sem as panelas de comida). Estou então fazendo as minhas escutas lá na edícula, uma vez que não dá para se usar a
minha Loop Blindada dentro de casa. Ontem estava lá na edícula ouvindo a Radio New Zealand International, 11.725 kHz.
Resolvi levar a Loop Blindada e o Degen DE1103 lá no quarto para usá-los em cima da mesa bem de frente e quase encostada na janela. Lá não foi
possível ouvir a Radio New Zealand International, pois, só o que ouvia era ruídos atmosféricos. Voltando para a edícula (com o Degen DE1103 em
uma mão e a antena na outra, mas conectada ao rádio), resolvi ligar o rádio ao me aproximar da porta da cozinha.
No que fui saindo da casa e me aproximando da entrada da edícula, o sinal da Radio New Zealand International, apareceu, mas voltando um pouco
em direção da casa (na área bem perto da escada da cozinha), o sinal da emissora sumiu. Alguma coisa impede o bom funcionamento da Loop
Blindada dentro de casa. Lá na edícula deixo duas lâmpadas fluorescentes grandes ligadas e a Loop Blindada não chupa nem um ruído das
lâmpadas.
É uma ótima antena.
Ouvi uma emissora em espanhol na frequência de 15.495 kHz, às 19:22 hs UTC. Pareceu-me ser um feeder da Argentina (Radio Nacional da
Argentina). Alguém sabe algo à respeito?
