The day will start at 10am and conclude at lunchtime. Parents are invited to stay and have lunch with their children. New Music Room The Music room is up and running. We are waiting on a balustrade to be made and installed which shouldn’t be much longer. Education Week Open night was very successful with many current families and new families visiting the school. The work the students have done was fabulous and I am sure you would have all enjoyed the opportunity to see their progress. As usual the grandparent’s morning tea was well attended. A special thank you to Mrs Martin and Miss King as the playing of the Blue Danube and the dancing with grandparents was a huge highlight of the morning. Bike Rack Many students have been riding their bikes to school and it is really pleasing to see that they are dismounting from their bikes before they come into the school grounds. Remember forms are at the office if you wish to ride to school. Past Students Several of our past students have achieved some outstanding results. Jonah and Jack have been selected to represent Victoria at the World Mathematical Olympiad to be held in Korea in August. The boys will be travelling to Korea for 5 days. Jordan has been selected to represent the EFL in the U13 Interleague team. He will be playing in a tournament on the Queen’s Birthday weekend. We are very proud of them all and we wish them every success! Enrolments If you have a child eligible to start school in 2017 please pick up some enrolment papers at the office. We are taking enrolments and would like to have our numbers confirmed as soon as possible. There has been great excitement from all the girls as a bear is finished. I am really proud of the way they have worked together, shared equipment and been patient with each other. All students produced a fantastic effort in finishing their race, which resulted in our school placing 4th out of the 8 competing schools. Students that placed in the top 10 in the race and have progressed to the Yarra Division Cross Country Championships were Cameron. W (10th 12/13 boys), Alisha. L (9th 12/13 girls), Holly. D (8th 11 girls), Daniel. G (10th 9/10 boys) and Jemima. M (7th 9/10 girls). A great effort from these students! Also, an enormous effort from the following place getters, Dakoda. M (3rd 11 girls), Briar. K (2nd 9/10 girls) and our champion gold medal winner Zac. C (1st 12/13 boys). Thank-you to the Clarke family for assisting the CPPS team with their pre-race warm-ups! Well done team, teachers and helpers!!! To those students who have progressed to Division Cross Country, the permission form and payment must be handed back to the office by next Wednesday 1st June. The race is on Tuesday 7th June. House Sports This Friday 27th May is the CPPS House Sports Olympics Day. As the notice mentioned students are to come to school in their House colours. Students will take part in 7 athletics events from 10am - 1:30pm. Please ensure they have appropriate sports shoes and cold weather clothing. This term we have been learning about different types of transport and the forces of push and pull that help them move. To conclude our unit on transport and to make our learning concrete, the students will be making their own car at school that uses force to move. If you have any of the following materials that could be sent to school for the students to use, that would be greatly appreciated! Plastic milk bottle lids (washed) Small yoghurt lids (washed) Foam trays Plastic trays Small boxes Thank you Matthew Stephen, Kate Russell, Sharnie Wake & Honnie Atkins From the Art Room It was so lovely to catch up with all the friends of the Art room at Open Night and Grandparent’s day. The children worked hard on their wonderful art pieces. They looked great! During the last holidays, Holly and Caitlyn Waite were lucky enough to visit the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) with their Dad. Having studied Picasso and Monet in Art, they went looking for some of their artwork. And to their credit, they found a painting by each on the second level. As you can see in the photo the girls are standing next to the original paintings. How exciting! The gallery is Australia’s oldest public art museum. We’re very lucky it’s in Melbourne! The actual collection is so big that it is spread over two buildings—NGV on St Kilda Road and the Ian Potter Centre at Federation Square. There is always a lot to see and explore. General entry is free and the galleries are open 10am-5pm daily. This could be a great holiday activity… Mrs Attwood Picasso’s Weeping Woman Monet’s Rough weather at Étretat (1883) Monet’s Vétheuil (1879) Picasso’s Weeping woman 66 Kimberley Drive, Chirnside Park 3116 [email protected] - www.chirnsideparkps.vic.edu.au 6
