SATURDAY, APRIL 29: DEPARTURE
Depart on an overnight flight bound for Madrid, Spain.
THURSDAY, MAY 4: MONTSERRAT/BARCELONA
After breakfast, we’ll have an early check
out of our Burgos hotel, load our luggage
and begin our journey across the beautiful
countryside of Spain towards Barcelona.
We’ll have a stop for lunch en route. Before
we get to Barcelona, we’ll drive via
Montserrat, a spectacularly beautiful
Benedictine monk mountain retreat about one hour northwest of Barcelona.
Not only is Montserrat Monastery of significant religious importance but also
the natural beauty surrounding the monastery is simply breathtaking.
Afterwards, continue on to Barcelona and check into our hotel. Dinner included
at the hotel.
SUNDAY, APRIL 30: MADRID/BURGOS
Morning arrival into Madrid, Spain. After
passport/customs, greet our local tour
manager and board our motor coach for a
panoramic tour of Madrid, the capital and
largest city in Spain. A cosmopolitan city,
business center, headquarters for the Public
Administration, Government, Spanish
Parliament and home of the Spanish Royal Family, Madrid plays a major role
in both the banking and industrial sectors. Free time for lunch on your own in
Madrid at the famed Plaza Mayor. Afterwards, we travel north to the city of
Burgos where we’ll check into our hotel. Welcome dinner included in the hotel. FRIDAY, MAY 5: BARCELONA
After breakfast at the hotel, board our motor coach for a panoramic orientation

After breakfast in the hotel, we’ll begin our tour of Burgos (meaning Land of
Catalonia, a region with its own language,
Castles). Burgos, founded in 884AD, is a monumental town, charming for its
character and history. Barcelona has been
typical medieval northern Castilian ambience. Our
breaking ground in art, architecture and
tour includes the 13th century gothic Catedral de
style since the late 19th century with
Burgos, which is among the most admired of its
Barcelona Cathedral (also known as La
kind worldwide. Especially remarkable is its
Seau), a celebrated example of Catalan
“Puerta del Sarmental,” considered to be the best
Gothic architecture dating from the 14th century whose graceful spires can be

rehearse for tonight’s concert performance. Concert performance this
evening at Teatre la Massa in Vilassar de Dalt. Dinner
TUESDAY, MAY 2: SEGOVIA/EL ESPINAR
included in Vilassar de Dalt. Return to Barcelona hotel for overnight.
Breakfast at our hotel. Board coach and transfer to Segovia for a city tour.
Segovia is Spain and Castile at its best - twisting alleyways, the highest
concentration of Romanesque churches in all
of Europe, pedestrian streets where no cars
are allowed, the aroma of roast suckling pig
around every corner - all surrounded by the
city's medieval wall which itself is bordered by
two rivers and an extensive green-belt park
with miles of shaded walks. On the northwest
extreme of the wall is the famous Alcázar castle, source of inspiration to Walt
Disney, and where Queen Isabel promised Columbus the financial backing he
needed to discover America. On the southeast extreme is the world renowned
Roman Aqueduct, the largest and best preserved of its kind anywhere, which
served as the mintmark on all coins struck in the city from 1455 to 1864. Next
we’ll transfer to El Espinar, known as the “Puerta de Castilla y Leon,” where
we will perform a concert this evening. Dinner included.
SATURDAY, MAY 6: BARCELONA
After breakfast at the hotel, and the famed Palau de la Musica, which we will
tour. The Palau is an architectural jewel of Catalan
Art Nouveau. The building is designed around a
central metal structure covered in glass, which
exploits natural light to make Domènech i
Montaner's masterpiece into a magical music box
bringing together all the decorative arts: sculpture,
mosaic, stained glass and ironwork. The Concert
Auditorium, one of the most distinctive in the world, is for more than a hundred
years the setting for the musical life of the city of Barcelona. Dominated by the
organ over the stage and a central skylight portraying the sun, the auditorium
is filled with natural light. A mystical, paradoxical hall, packed with figures like
muses which surround the stage, a bust of Anselm Clavé on one side and
Beethoven on the other, and hundreds of natural motifs, including flowers,
palms, fruit, jars and cases filled with

SUNDAY, MAY 7: TRANSFER TO LISBON
Check out of our Barcelona hotel and transfer to
the airport for our flight to Lisbon. Upon arrival
into Lisbon, we will be met by our local guide and
coach. Spread across steep hillsides that overlook
the Rio Tejo, Lisbon has captivated visitors for
centuries. Windswept vistas reveal the city in all
its beauty: Roman and Moorish ruins, white-domed cathedrals, grand plazas lined
with sun-drenched cafes. Orientation tour of Lisbon on the way to our hotel.
Welcome dinner at the hotel tonight.
MONDAY, MAY 8: LISBON
After breakfast at the hotel, we board our coach for a half-day tour of Lisbon.
Lisbon has been occupied by several civilizations along the centuries: Phoenicians,
Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Moors and finally the Portuguese after 1147. You
will see St. George Castle (Castelo de Sao Jorge), including its surrounding quarter
as well as Alfama, Lisbon's oldest quarter. Lisbon is linked to the heroic deeds of
Portuguese maritime exploration in the 15th and 16th centuries. This was the age
of discoveries and the golden era of Portugal, transforming Lisbon into the opulent
center of a vast empire. Lisbon is more than just monuments. You will also visit the
traditional commerce and financial areas of the city, with their 18th-century
buildings including downtown and the "Chiado," a choice shopping area. This
afternoon you will have free time for lunch and more sightseeing and dinner on
your own.
TUESDAY, MAY 9: Sintra | Cascais | Estoril
After breakfast at the hotel, we will embark
on our full day tour to enjoy a day away from
the hustle and bustle of Lisbon on a visit to
nearby sites of natural and architectural
beauty. Marvel at the views of the
surrounding landscape and Atlantic Ocean.
Your guide will tell you about the fascinating
history associated with this romantic area.
Next on the tour is a visit to the historical center of Sintra. Enjoy free time for lunch
or visit the National Palace. We will continue on with a drive through the Natural
Park, passing the palaces of Quinta da Regaleira, Seteais, and Monserrate with a
stop at the end of the world, the great cliffs at Roca Cape, which are the
westernmost point of continental Europe. You will also visit the stylish town of
Cascais and enjoy the drive along the coast to Lisbon, passing the town of Estoril
along the way. This evening we will enjoy a farewell dinner together.
