Happy Mother’s Day to all of our Annunciation moms! The faculty and staff wish you a lovely
day with your child/children and thank you for all you do for them to make them successful
students.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This Friday, May 6, there is no school. Teachers will be taking part in an in-service all day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Congratulations to the students who made their First Holy Communion on
Sunday. They did a wonderful job. Our readers, Maggie Deering and
Ella White, who shared the First Reading, and Robbey Hren, who read the
Second Reading, did a remarkable job. Our Responsorial Psalm was read
by Lucas Galindo who did an exceptional job reading and leading the
church with their responses. Our petitioners, Aiden Aristuk, Aidan Baer,
Sophia Gay, Abby
Mendez, Savana Sanchez, Alex Quattrocchi and Zachary Hultgren
worked hard to memorize their petitions and delivered them flawlessly.
Our gifts were presented by Anna Sojka, Ian McClintock and Samuel
Ramirez. I have many people to thank for preparing these students for
their special day: Father Patrick, Mary Glosson for all their help, Kathy
Tentinger, who worked very hard with the readers and petitioners, Jacquie
Jungels for making the signs for the pews, and
Jennifer Wardynski for helping during First Communion Mass. Last but
not least, thank you to all the parents who supported their children and helped prepare them
spiritually for this very special day.
- Mrs. Fitzgerald, 2nd grade teacher
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------At this time we would like to recognize our Home and School board members who have
completed their terms. Barb Tews, Carrie Barriga, Deb O’Connell, Annette McMahon, and
Nicole Lambert will be leaving the board. We thank them very much for their dedication. All of
our students and staff have benefitted from their hard work. The remaining board members,
Julie Cibulskis, Julie McCarty, and Jen Hirner will be joined by our new members: Kim Becker,
Jackie Szilage, Kelly Bergeron, Mary Digate and Michele Sojka. We also thank these women
for continuing the mission of Home and School. Annunciation is extremely fortunate to have
such creative, hard-working, and generous Home and School board members.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Walk-a-thon News:
Thanks again to everyone involved in this year's walk-a-thon! Home and School truly
appreciates your support. We would like to announce the winners of various prizes.
Congratulations to the Urbealis family! They are the winners of the raffle for
tickets and a parking pass to a 2016 Chicago White Sox game. We hope you enjoy the game!
Congratulations to the Lambert family, who brought in the highest dollar amount
of donations! Enjoy your day at the Shedd Aquarium and overnight stay in Chicago.
The winner of the Visa gift card drawing for sending in a donation is Hedy and Ed Pierce,
grandparents of Dan and Riley Cwinski. Congratulations and thanks for your generous donation!
The boy and girl in each grade/class that completed the most laps were also
awarded prizes. In most classes there were multiple winners, which shows how
hard everyone worked! A total of 36 awards were given to students who had the
most laps. Congratulations to you and your classmates!
Again, thank you to all our families for your participation and support! The walk-a-thon was a
huge success due to your generosity and help. Together we can accomplish great things!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Last week we had our last Hot Lunch Day for this year. It takes many volunteers to run hot
lunch and we appreciate everyone’s help, but there are a few people to whom we would like to
give special thanks. Thanks to Mrs. Winkel and Mrs. Brabeck for their work coordinating with
the restaurants to arrange menus, and keeping track of all the orders, and thanks to Ms. Erica
Parsons for purchasing chips, desserts, and pop every month, calling volunteer servers, and
serving lunch every month. Without these people the Hot Lunch Days that our students enjoy
would not be possible.

Vacation Bible School Volunteers!
This year, Annunciation BVM is putting on Cave Quest Totally Catholic Vacation Bible School. The
VBS will be a five day program for kids entering 4 year old preschool through entering 5th grade.
The program will run June 27 – July 1 from 9:00am – 12:00pm. Volunteers need to be there at 8:45
and stay until 12:15. This program is completely prepared for the volunteers with music, games,
skits, videos, crafts, supplies and lesson plans. It is an amazing, fun filled program that is sure to
touch the lives and the hearts of the children and volunteers. We are very excited to run this
program, but we can’t do it without your help!
We need both adult and teen volunteers, and we are prepared to provide incentives for both.
Adult volunteers will get free tuition to VBS for all of their children. Teens (students entering 6th
grade – high school) will receive service hours. Teens may choose one other teen that they would
like to work with. All volunteers will receive a Cave Quest tee shirt to wear. We will also have a
volunteer pizza party following the last day of VBS.
There are a number of volunteer positions available. Please look at the list of positions on the back
of this page and prayerfully consider taking one of them that you would be best suited for. If we
don’t have the minimum number of volunteers, we will not be able to run the program. I would
like volunteers to commit to the full week if possible, however, I will make some exceptions for
certain positions.
Adult volunteers must take “Protecting God’s Children” and submit to a background check before
the program begins. There will be one training session before VBS begins for adult volunteers on
Wednesday, June 1st at 7:00pm in the rectory patio room. There will be one training session
before VBS begins for teen volunteers on Wednesday, June 22nd from 7:00–8:00pm in the rectory
patio room. There will be a mandatory meeting for all volunteers at 8:00am on June 27th at
Annunciation School Gym before the first day of VBS.
Please email or call Jennifer Hensley as soon as possible if you are interested. We would like to
secure all volunteers as soon as possible. Please specify the positions you are interested in on the
registration form.
Thank you,
Jennifer Hensley
