DIRECTOR SUMMIT 2009 was the culmi-
nation of a year of preparing, creating and
designing the best tools and programs for
your business.
This powerful event brought Directors
and Future Directors together for three
historic days of training.
The main topic: Freedom!
Independent Executive Director Tami
DiDio knew from the moment she heard
about the Freedom Plan that she and her
team could build their business as big as
their dreams. “The Freedom Plan is what
this business is all about. It’s about helping
others. There are going to be a lot more
leaders, a lot more teams forming and a lot
more lives changing. I tell my team, ‘With
the Freedom Plan, we’re going to make the
money we need and be the people we want
to be!’” Independent Senior Director Jennifer
Molinari also saw the limitless possibilities for
herself and her team with the Freedom Plan.
“When BeautiControl says they are going to

As a special guest at Director Summit,
former Independent Consultant Ali Landry—
a model, actress, Miss USA , mother and
businesswoman—described what BeautiControl has meant to her and how it has
helped to shape her life.
Ali was a BeautiControl Consultant while
in college and used the money she earned to
pay for her education. Though she had to stop
to participate in the Miss USA pageant, she
was wearing BeautiControl cosmetics when

she won the title. To this day, she continues
using BeautiControl products. “It’s all I carry
in my purse,” Ali said.
When asked what it meant to her to be at
Director Summit, Ali said, “I’m excited to be a
part of Director Summit. It’s incredible to see
all of the leaders for BeautiControl gathered
to learn how to be more effective as they
build their businesses. BeautiControl offers
such opportunity and financial freedom to
everyone. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Directors and Consultants at all levels
purchased raffle tickets benefiting the
W.H.O. (Women Helping Others®) Foundation between Oct. 15th and Dec. 10th,
2009. Tickets were entered into a drawing
to win a beautiful 18kt white gold diamond
necklace valued at $1,500. The lucky winner
was Independent Executive Director Kathy
Maples. But it wasn’t just any diamond necklace. To Kathy, it symbolized so much more.
“Independent Platinum Senior National
Executive Director Evelyn Coleman bought
122 tickets for her Directors who attended
Summit, and the ticket she bought for me
was the winning ticket! But it’s better than
that. At Celebration 2008, I lost the most
beautiful necklace I had ever earned from
BeautiControl. I once told Evelyn, jokingly,
if she wanted to replace it I would be happy
to take one of her necklaces she didn’t wear,”
Kathy said.
Evelyn not only replaced Kathy’s necklace,
she helped make a difference in the lives of
many through the W.H.O. Foundation.
“It is so meaningful being from the W.H.O.
Foundation, an organization that gives back
so generously. Both W.H.O. and Evelyn had
a part in replacing my beautiful necklace, and
I can’t thank them enough. I never want to
take it off ! Receiving the diamond necklace
at Summit was such an incredible moment
in my BeautiControl career. By sharing this

Obstacles into Opportunity
How it took a woman who never quit to conquer
the city that never sleeps.
hen it comes to starting a new
business, everybody encounters
obstacles they have to overcome.
For some, it’s a lack of start-up money. For
others it’s the lack of reliable transportation or
a computer. Others may experience a lack of
support from friends and even family.
And then there’s Independent Executive
Director Tami DiDio, who one day found
herself staring at all three problems, all at
once.
Until recently, Tami’s family had owned a
trucking company. But like many businesses
as of late, it went under—leaving her and her
family in total financial devastation. With
both she and her husband out of work and no
money coming in, the family car soon followed,
repossessed due to failure of payment. And as
they sometimes do, what started out as money
problems slowly grew into marriage problems.
It was then —with no income, no prospects
and almost no hope —that Tami was invited to
something that would change her life forever—
her first BeautiControl spa.
“When I was invited to my first spa I was
at the lowest point of my life,” Tami readily
admits. “In fact, when my friend asked me, my
first instinct was to say ‘no way’. I couldn’t even
justify the cost of buying a foot creme. I just
couldn’t afford it. I had literally no money.”
But Tami’s friend scoffed and said to come
anyway. Telling her she wouldn’t have to worry
about buying anything. She insisted that Tami
simply come, relax and enjoy it. And that Tami
could just think of it as a gift.
“It was a gift,” Tami says with obvious
emotion in her voice. “And that’s something I
believe in to this day. The spa is a gift. They are
our gifts to women.”
“So I ended up going to the spa,” Tami
continues, “mainly because I felt like I couldn’t

tell her no. I had only $30 in my pocket. And
I loved everything! I left buying nothing but
wanting it all.”
Tami may not have bought anything, but she
still walked away with something amazing—her
newfound enthusiasm for BeautiControl.
Soon Tami’s girlfriend started urging her to
hold her first spa. Again, her first instinct was
“no way.”
“It was a crazy idea,” says Tami. “I thought to
myself: I can’t sell things. I have no money. I’m

Sometimes people get so caught up in their
own lives that they never stop to see the
obstacles in front of others. That’s not true
with Jennifer.
At first glance, it seemed Jennifer had
everything she could ever want in her life. She
had two beautiful children, a loving police
captain husband and three jobs in addition
to just holding the time-consuming position
of “Mom.” In reality, Jennifer discovered that
there was a part of her life missing that she
didn’t even know existed. She realized that
sometimes it’s not about what she can do to
change her own life, but what she can do to
help change others.
“I have a Consultant on my team, Mary
Schiro, who has two autistic sons,” explains
Jennifer. “She was recently at an event with
Jose Luis and myself, and after he showed
us the path to financial freedom Mary had
an ‘ah-ha!’ moment that will stay with me for
the rest of my life. It was as if a switch went
off, and she saw that this was going to be her
answer. That she’d be able to provide for her
boys in a way that she never thought possible.
It was so powerful to witness. There’s not
a paycheck that can hold a candle to that
feeling.”

best friend, Independent Director Helene

knows there’s nothing like the feeling of

now helping to support her family by
putting food on the table, her husband
was still completely unsupportive. Even
after 11 months when Tami had earned
Directorship and was invited to attend
a national conference, her husband still
didn’t support her.
“I was so excited to attend my first
national conference!” remembers Tami.
“My husband thought someone like me
didn’t belong at national conferences,
but I knew he was wrong and I wanted to
prove it to him. I thought if I could get him
to come with me he would see. After a lot
of convincing, he agreed to come along. I
knew it was going be a very important trip
for me and my family.”
Tami was right. On the very first night,
something important did happen. As Cindy
Koleba cartwheeled across the stage while
being recognized for achieving Senior
National Executive Director, Tami had a
vision.
“I’d followed Cindy’s stories in the
Achiever and Empowering Women magazines,” explains Tami. “She was such an
inspiration! I realized what she had done

with Canada, and I’d also remembered
what Mari Santo-Domingo had done with
Puerto Rico, and I suddenly knew what I
wanted to do. And for the first time I felt
like it was possible.”
Tami wanted to put New York on the
map.
Among the lights, love and elation
that she saw on stage, Tami had finally
connected with her vision. Her life and its
possibilities literally flashed before her eyes.
She saw it. And even better, she saw how
she could, and would, make it happen. With
tears of joy in her eyes, Tami turned to her
husband to tell him everything that she’d
just realized, only to realize something
else…he wasn’t even there.
“He walked back in from the buffet or
the bathroom or wherever he was, and I
tried to explain to him what had happened,”
recalls Tami. “Instead of understanding, he
just started trying to suck the life out of me.
He had no interest. He wasn’t listening to
me at all.”
It was then that Tami found the power to
overcome yet another obstacle in her life.
Taking a deep, determined breath, Tami
did three things at that moment.
She took one final look at the stage—
the place where everything in her life finally
connected—and put every detail to memory to
keep as inspiration for the future.
She reached deep inside herself and saw that
she truly believed in what was happening around
her and where she could take her life with the
opportunity.
And then she did something that, well, is best
described in her own words.
“I looked at my husband and said ‘either you’re
leaving or I’m leaving,’” states Tami matter-offactly. “By his face I could tell that he wasn’t going
anywhere, so I turned around, said ‘see you later’
and left.”
And just like that, Tami walked out and
achieved her freedom.
She didn’t stay and attend the national
conference she had worked so hard to earn.
She didn’t enjoy the vacation she so desperately
needed. She didn’t even walk across the stage to
be recognized for her Directorship.
“I was only there for a couple hours, but that
was enough for me.” Tami says without a hint of
regret. “It was all I needed. I knew I’d be there
next year, and at a higher level. From there
everything changed. I had a vision. And with that
vision, I now had power.”
The one thing she didn’t have, however, was
a place to stay.
So, after packing her things, Tami left her
husband and her hotel room and spent the night
sleeping in a closed airport. When she finally
made it home, her mother greeted her at the door
with tears in her eyes, upset that her daughter had
worked so hard, but didn’t walk across the stage

Reach Out and
Help Those in Need
Karen Lorenzo
Independent Director
When Karen decided to take her love of
skin care and share it with the world, she
faced the same obstacle that many of us
do. The only diff erence is, for Karen that
obstacle only made her stronger.
“People who were negative only pushed
me harder,” explains Karen. “I actually want
to thank the people who were negative. ‘I
don’t like parties…I don’t do those things…No
one has money…I don’t have time.’ Everyone
with the usual excuses. Thank you! In the
beginning, they were really helping me out.”
As a registered nurse, Karen was used to
all sorts of excuses and complaints, so when
she ran into someone who wasn’t interested
in the opportunity and the help she had to
offer, she knew exactly what to do.
“I just went on to the next person,” says
Karen matter-of-factly. “You can’t take it
personally. Just keep going. People are going
to say yes.”
All Karen truly wants to do is help women
change lives. And she knows that nothing
is going to stop her from doing that. There
are millions of people out there, and even if
not all them want it, she knows a lot of them
could use the help she’s offering.
“Recently, people have been telling me
that they can see my passion,” says Karen.
“They can see I love what I do. It makes me
feel so great that I’m making people feel
good, and as a nurse, I always want to help
people.” e

“I told her this wasn’t going to be a
one time thing,” Tami says confidently. “I
knew I‘d be back.”
Then Tami took her first Director
check, packed up her three kids and left.
Now, for most people, this part of the
story would be enough. Most people
would think:
“Mission accomplished. Life changed.
Happy ending. Roll credits.”
Most people, however, don’t know
Tami DiDio. Tami had a vision, and after
overcoming such a myriad of obstacles,
Tami now had belief in herself and her
vision. There was one thing, however,
that Tami still needed. Tami needed
help. Tami needed people that shared
her vision.
Tami needed the power of three.
“My vision of Spa New York would
never be possible unless I had people
who believed what I believed,” Tami
states adamantly. “The power of three
doesn’t include me. The power of three
is more. It’s the power of the people I met
along the way. Since the beginning of
my business, I would never be where I am
if it wasn’t for them.”
So with the same determination that
a mother of three with a 104˚ fever had
to make her New Jersey training session
barely more than a year ago, Tami
took her enthusiasm and her vision and
started making it happen by convincing
her friends and Consultants that it could
be done. It honestly didn’t take much
more than Tami being herself.
One of the first people to jump on
board was Independent Senior Director
Jennifer Molinari. As an administrative
office worker, licensed hairdresser and
volunteer cheerleading coach, it’s surprising that Jennifer could add anything
to her busy, whirlwind life, but Tami and
her excitement for her BeautiControl
vision just couldn’t be missed.
“Tami is the type of person that you
just fall in love with when you meet her,”
Jennifer laughs when asked about her
friend and Executive Director. “She’s so
full of life and love and she really just radiates a genuine passion that you don’t see
all the time.”
With a police captain husband who
worked nights and weekends on a regular
basis, two children and three jobs herself,
when Jennifer decided that she wanted
to start doing spas she wondered how
on earth she would fit it all in. But after
she attended her first Unit Meeting at
Tami’s home and heard her enthusiasm

knew she had to make time in her life to
make it happen.
“I owe so much of my success to Tami!”
exclaims Jennifer. “Although I wasn’t her
personal recruit, she never treated me as
if I were anything but. She held my hand
through spas, empowered me to take a
leadership role and helped me to succeed
in every way possible. I will never forget how
easy it could have been to get “lost” if she
had decided to only focus on her personal
team. I can never repay her for what she
has done for me and my family. She’s a
shining example of what this opportunity
stands for, and I am proud to have her as
not only an Executive Director, but a good
friend.”
In fact, she was such a good friend, that
when Jennifer walked across the stage
to accept her Directorship, Tami walked
across with her—fulfilling the promise
Tami made when she walked out of her own
Director recognition. And, just to make the
moment even sweeter, there was another
lady that made that trip across the stage —
Tami’s mother.
The next person to join Tami on her
vision quest was Independent Director
Karen Lorenzo, although Karen didn’t
really realize she was going to at the time.
“I never planned to do anything with
the business. I just really liked the skin care.

My skin felt good all the time and I loved it”
says Karen.
A registered nurse, Karen thought she’d
already found her calling and career. She
loved helping people and already had a
job that let her do just that. But Tami wasn’t
going to let something like that stop her.
“Karen was a gift given to me two
Christmases ago,” says Tami excitedly. “I
knew she was a nurse. I knew she could
share her love for skin care with other
nurses, but she didn’t seem like she was
interested in having her own business. But
I believe one of my gifts is that I’m always
sharing my passion and people feel it.
Karen felt it. And one day she asked what
she needed to do.”
That’s all it really took. Now with 200
Consultants on her team, Karen has turned
her love for helping people through nursing
into a love of helping people through the
BeautiControl opportunity. She couldn’t
be happier, and she says she has Tami to
thank for it.
“Tami has the biggest heart and she
would do anything for anyone,” gushes
Karen. “Tami believed in me even when I
didn’t believe in myself. She led the way.
I felt like giving up in January. I was tired.
I didn’t have any spas. Tami told me she
would help me become a Director. And
now I am.”

In recent years a new obstacle has been
appearing more and more frequently when
it comes to starting a new business–the
economy. Recently many people have lost
jobs, been told that they’d have to find new
careers and been forced to settle for less.
Director Helene Graci thought she might
be one of them.
“I had been recently laid off from this firm
on Wall Street,” says Helene. “Even though
they were ranked as one of the 10 best places
for working moms, I got penalized for calling
in sick and taking care of my daughter.”
But now, by harnessing the freedom of the
BeautiControl opportunity, connecting with
the people around her and reaching out to
share her love for the spa experience, Helene
has achieved something amazing.
Helene didn’t just replace her Wall Street
earnings, she gained something more valuable.
“Wall Street gave me everything I ever
wanted financially, but they never gave me
my daughter,” explains Helene.
Thanks to her hard work, dedication and
a friendship with best-friend since 6th grade
Jennifer Molinari, Helene has fulfilled a lifelong dream and become something she’s
always wanted to be—a stay-at-home mom.
“My husband and I couldn’t afford to
lose my salary,” states Helene. “And I always
wanted to be at home with my daughter. I’m
now working for myself and I’m part of the
best company in the world. I’d be miserable
working for corporate America.” e
We all have the same dreams.
It’s about putting our vision of
Spa New York out there.
Tami, however, insists that it wasn’t all her. “We all
have the same dreams.” explains Tami. “It’s about
putting our vision of Spa New York out there. And that
dream worked so well with Karen’s dream that it all just
came together.”
“I’m still a nurse.” smiles Karen. “Tami just says that
now I’m nursing people’s skin back to health.”
The final piece of the fantastic four, Independent
Director Helene Graci, wasn’t even in Tami’s downline.
A friend of Jennifer Molinari since the 6th grade,
Helene worked on Wall Street and financially had everything she needed, but she was still missing one thing.
“The firm gave me everything I wanted, but they
never gave me my daughter” states Helene. “Tami’s
passion for her children and being a single parent is
what made me realize I can leave my job and be home
with my kids. It’s her passion that keeps me going.
When you have passion for something and you give it
to someone, I believe it will come back to you twofold.”
But it wasn’t just Helene receiving inspiration and
support from Tami. Tami received the
same inspiration and support back
from Helene. And once again that
helped her overcome another obstacle
that she’d struggled with in her life.
“I leaned on Helene from the onset,”
admits Tami. “Like I said before, I had
such an issue of speaking to people,
but both Helene and Jennifer believed
I could do it. It was so bad that at my
first BeautiU, I was asked to speak in
front of the class, and I was so nervous
I had to take a chair and sit down rather
than stand up and do it. That was my
comfort zone. But Helene gave me
encouragement. She always referred
to me as ‘my fearless leader’ and thanks
to her support I can now do something
that I never thought I would be able
to do. Both Helene and Jennifer
taught me that with the right support
anything’s possible.”
And Tami’s not done learning. Even
now as an up-and-coming New York
BeautiControl queen, Tami still remembers that she can learn something from
everyone she meets on her journey—
from other Executive Directors to even
the newest Consultant.
“Just recently I met Lynda Gambardella, a new Consultant on Helene’s
team,” points out Tami. “Lynda was
a top seller for two months in a row. I
thought just that fact was impressive,
but then I learned that at one of her
spas recently, Lynda ended up turning
everyone who attended bright blue.
Literally! And despite that, she still
had a $750 spa! When I heard that I
told myself, ‘I need to know what she’s
doing! If she can turn everyone blue at
her spas and still be successful, then
I have to know.’ We connected and
Lynda taught me how to really bring
relaxation into my spa. It’s just proof
that even the newest person in your
group can make a huge difference.”
And Tami has made a huge difference. Her life has turned a complete
180˚ degrees. Now she has her
Mustang, has earned her financial
freedom and she’s literally seeing her
vision come to life right before her eyes.
Through hard work, determination
and a true belief in the BeautiControl

overcome more obstacles than anyone

This month I’m here to address a trio of often overlooked problems—stretch marks, scars and spider veins…
oh my! These may not be pleasant to consider but, as
a majority of women are or will be troubled by at least
one of these, it’s important we pay attention.
Stretch marks take just a few months to develop but
without intervention, they can remain with you for life.
Stretch marks look like streaks on the surface of the skin,

Spa from the Heart
I’ve been doing spas for 7 years and one thing
that really works for me is I prepare the guests for
the amazing life experience they are going to have
by speaking from the heart. Once my Hostess
determines the names and numbers of her guests,
she gives them to me to start calling them. I insist
that this will be a gift they will give to themselves
and, therefore, since it will be a time to get rid of
stress, they should come without makeup, dress
comfortably and bring a pair of socks, because it’ll
be a total girls’ night! One day before the Spa, I
confirm our date with each one of them.
I make sure that the place we will be using for the
relaxation portion is a quiet and fresh place with no
street noise in order to create the ideal experience
we are pursuing—total relaxation! When people
relax, they loosen their pockets!
The day of the Spa, once the guests start
arriving, I talk to them to find out their needs and I
start taking notes. That way I can start determining
where to identify my prospective recruits, my next
booking and, of course, my sales. As the Spa is
wrapping up, I sit with each guest individually, while
I continue showing my Hostess as the star as she
tries on the wet/dry foundation. I make sure to
offer facial treatments, since they are the easiest to
reorder. This way I secure customers for life!
I always express my gratitude for having the
privilege to know new people in each Spa, and touch
their lives the way they touch mine. We end up
establishing a friendly relationship that is priceless.
As a recruiter, I make them see the convenience
of becoming a Consultant instead of staying as a
customer. I let them see the alternatives and the
freedom BC offers—their own store, their own
business if that’s what they wish. I let them know
there is an answer for every person and every
circumstance here.
My biggest wish in each Spa is to share my
heart in order to create an atmosphere of respect,
kindness, peace and sisterhood. Most importantly,
to each Spa I bring happiness. This really affects
people and they identify with it.
The most important thing for me is to serve and
to help others to look and feel better. That’s my daily
fuel—I love for people to feel important. There are so
many people around us that do not feel like that.
