19 de Junio de 2016 - St. Agatha Catholic Church
June 19, 2016 Happy Father’s Day! 19 de Junio de 2016 ¡Feliz Día del Padre! Today, as he often does, Luke portrays Jesus “praying in solitude” (Luke 9:18). The Jubilee Year of Mercy invites us to rediscover the value of silence as the prayerful setting in which to reflect on the ways in which God’s mercy transforms our lives, in order to make mercy the heart of our own lifestyle. But in a line that sounds odd, Jesus “rebuked” his disciples “and directed them not to tell anyone” (9:20–21) after they professed their faith in Jesus as “the Christ of God” (9:20). Jesus challenges us also to profess our faith not by what we say, but by what we do: take up our own cross daily (9:23) and “bear one another’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2). Our gratitude for God’s mercy toward us should make us instruments of God’s mercy toward all. Then, as Zechariah prophesies in today’s first reading, the fountain of God’s mercy will open to purify the whole world from the sin and selfishness that cause suffering and sorrow to so many (Zechariah 13:1). - Peter Scagnelli Check in at St. Agatha’s Facebook Page! -Alfio Mazzei -Alicia Jimenez Bravo -Andres Luna -Arlasha Allen -Barbara Harvey -Bonita Sanderlin -Camille Jones -Carlos Antonio Vasquez -Christina Paul -Damacio Horta -Dulce Maria E. H ow do you answer Jesus' question, "Who do you say I am?" Our answers are known more by how we live than by words alone. So ask yourself the question, "Who do people say that you are?" Are we people who live like someone who is clothed with Christ? Last year marked the fiftieth anniversary of the March on Selma. People knew what Martin Luther King believed and lived. This year Pope Francis has beatified Archbishop Oscar Romero. His life proclaimed the gospel so clearly that he was a threat to the Salvadoran leaders. It cost him his live. Neither man looked for these causes. They chose to accept them. So how do we live our faith? Make clear that you are a Christian, a Christ -bearer, clothed with Christ each and every day. Thank you to all who worked so hard to make the Festival the great success it was. We will have more facts in the next few weeks, but it was all of you who made it happen. Blessings!!!! Have a good week, Have a good week, Sr. Karen Collier Gracias a todos quienes trabajaron tanto para que nuestro festival fuera un éxito. Tendremos más detalles en las próximas semanas. Lo pudimos hacer gracias a todos ustedes. ¡Muchas bendiciones! Que tengan una semana bonita, Hermana Karen Collier Cancer Support Group We would like to form a cancer support group. If you are interested to join, Please contact the Parish office (323) 935-8127, or email: [email protected]. You may also call Donal O'Sullivan at (323) 899-0317. “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. FAMILY FORUM FORO FAMILIAR It has been about five years since we had our Family Forum (Town Hall Meeting). We looked at the needs of our Parish Family at that time and reported the results voiced and the process in what was being done. We have noticed that there are new concerns, and needs that can be addressed. We would like to hold another set of meetings in October to share our thoughts on issues that matter to you and the community. Let’s work together for a better and stronger St. Agatha. Look for more to come in future bulletins.
