Happy Father’s Day!
19 de Junio de 2016
¡Feliz Día del Padre!
Today, as he often does, Luke portrays Jesus “praying
in solitude” (Luke 9:18). The Jubilee Year of Mercy
invites us to rediscover the value of silence as the
prayerful setting in which to reflect on the ways in
which God’s mercy transforms our lives, in order to
make mercy the heart of our own lifestyle. But in a line
that sounds odd, Jesus “rebuked” his disciples “and directed them not to tell anyone” (9:20–21) after they
professed their faith in Jesus as “the Christ of
God” (9:20). Jesus challenges us also to profess our
faith not by what we say, but by what we do: take up
our own cross daily (9:23) and “bear one another’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2). Our gratitude for God’s mercy
toward us should make us instruments of God’s mercy
toward all. Then, as Zechariah prophesies in today’s
first reading, the fountain of God’s mercy will open to
purify the whole world from the sin and selfishness that
cause suffering and sorrow to so many (Zechariah
13:1).
- Peter Scagnelli

nor silent onlookers nor paid servants
who run away before the wolf. Instead let
us be careful shepherds watching over
Christ’s flock. Let us preach the whole of
God’s plan to the powerful and to the
humble, to rich and to poor, to men of
every rank and age, as far as God gives
us the strength, in season and out of
season.” - St. Boniface, Bishop and Martyr

To build and foster a Christian Community that offers
the opportunity to experience God’s unconditional love
and acceptance to all who come into contact with it.
H
ow do you answer Jesus' question, "Who
do you say I am?" Our answers are known
more by how we live than by words alone.
So ask yourself the question, "Who do people say
that you are?" Are we people who live like
someone who is clothed with Christ?
Last year marked the fiftieth anniversary of
the March on Selma. People knew what
Martin Luther King believed and lived. This
year Pope Francis has beatified Archbishop
Oscar Romero. His life proclaimed the gospel
so clearly that he was a threat to the
Salvadoran leaders. It cost him his live.
Neither man looked for these causes. They
chose to accept them. So how do we live our
faith? Make clear that you are a Christian, a Christ
-bearer, clothed with Christ each and every day.
Thank you to all who worked so hard to
make the Festival the great success it was. We will
have more facts in the next few weeks, but it was
all of you who made it happen. Blessings!!!!
Have a good week,
Have a good week,
Sr. Karen Collier
¡Muchas
bendiciones!
Que tengan una semana bonita,

“As each one has received a
special gift, employ it in
serving one another as good
stewards of the manifold
grace of God. “
- 1 Peter 4:10
¿Cómo contesto la pregunta de Jesús, “¿Quién
dicen que soy Yo”? Las respuestas están en cómo
vivimos y no tanto las palabras. Entonces
fin, eligieron aceptarlo. Entonces, “cómo vivimos
nuestra fe? Enseñen claramente que son católicos,
alguien envuelto en Cristo diaramente.

New Years Retreat Day
An early reminder from the Spiritual Life Committee
Dear Family,
We repeatedly hear from parishioners that they would appreciate going off-site for retreat day experiences, so we offer the following
information. This is an early look at a New Year Retreat Day that will be held offsite. It is never too early to be prepared!
The New Years Retreat Day takes place at Holy Spirit Retreat Center in Encino on Saturday January 7; the title: Called to be Benedictions of Grace will be facilitated by parishioner Josephine Broehm. The cost is $35 without lunch and $45 with lunch. If we know in
time, we can organize carpools. We hope this gives you ample opportunity to plane and save for this retreat opportunity. To RSVP,
please notify the office so we know how many carpools we will need. If you are will to drive, let us know as well. Retreat questions can
be sent to [email protected] or call and leave a message at 310-791-1241.

FAMILY FORUM
FORO FAMILIAR
It has been about five years since we had our Family
Forum (Town Hall Meeting). We looked at the needs
of our Parish Family at that time and reported the
results voiced and the process in what was being
done. We have noticed that there are new concerns,
and needs that can be addressed. We would like to
hold another set of meetings in October to share our
thoughts on issues that matter to you and the community. Let’s work together for a better and stronger
