A Place to Learn, Share & Be Creative
Summer Finished Projects Drawing…
This summer (June - August) we want to see your finished projects. Turn those UFOs into
FOs and have a chance to win a gift certificate. To enter the
drawing, bring in your finished project; let us take a picture, and
fill out a project card with the name of the pattern and yarn
used. At the end of August we will
randomly draw 1 project
card from the box and that person will win a $25 gift certificate!!
After all, we love to see your finished projects! Yarn must have
been purchased at The Yarn Haven in the last 6 months. No
limit to the number of times you can enter. Get those knitting needles and hooks in gear
this summer and you could be our summer winner!!
Summer Challenge 2016...
It’s hard to believe, but the Summer Olympics will
be happening again this summer August 5—21.
Challenge yourself by starting and finishing one or
more projects during the days of the Olympics.
What will be a challenge for you? It could be
learning a new technique, doing something massive, or knitting lace for the first time. Our goal for the Summer Challenge is to support you
as you challenge yourself during those 16 days. When do we start? Friday night, August
5, during the opening ceremonies of the
Summer Olympics. When the Olympic games
kick off in Rio, Brazil, that’ll be your starting point. Every participant that finishes their
Challenge will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift certificate!! We’ll be having a kickoff dinner at Melissa’s house from 6:30—10 pm that night so we can all cast on together.
Cost: $10 and includes a BBQ supper and a chance to win a door prize. Sign up for the
party by Wednesday, August 3. Be thinking about what Summer Challenge you want to take
this year and come sign up to join the fun! Yarn used must be purchased at The Yarn Haven.
Scoreboard KAL/CAL..
It’s getting close to football time in Tennessee!
This year we’re going in a totally new direction.
We have a new pattern, a new yarn to
use, and new rules to go by. If you are
interested in following the University of TN
Volunteers on the football field while making a
lovely accessory to support your team, then let
us know that you want to participate so that we can order enough yarn. Crocheters, this
year we’re also doing a pattern for you! Call or stop by the shop and let us know that you
want to participate. Details will be revealed before the first game on September 1.
Fiber Friends…
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. So our Charity project through September
will be making breast prosthesis for breast cancer patients. There is a great pattern on
the charity project page of our website. Please use the softest, non-wool, machinewashable DK yarn that you can afford. We need ALL sizes (A, B, C, D & DD). Make
one or a pair and help us give back to the women in our community who have dealt
with breast cancer.
Need a Bag Lining?
We all love to knit or crochet bags. But many times the bags would be nicer with a lining. Kelora is an
excellent tailor and would love to put a lining in your bags. Just bring by your bag for her and she will
contact you with the cost of adding a lining to your creation.
Blocking and Felting?
Many times we have heard folks say that they can’t felt their project because they have a front-loading
washer. Or they know their garment should be blocked, but they are scared to do it. Blocking will smooth
out any wrinkles, stretch garment out to the correct size, relax the stitches so they are all more uniform
and make the garment look and fit better. We can provide these services for you. Just bring your
projects to us for felting or blocking. Cost is $10 per item. (If there are several items for the same
project that need blocking, cost will be a total of $15.)
Need Knitting/Crocheting Help on a Project?
Just call the shop and see when we'll have room in one of our Weekly classes. It's just $12.50 for 2 hours
and our teachers can help get you back on track with your project.
Weekly Classes...
We have Weekly Classes mornings, afternoons, and on the evenings we are open. Mimi’s classes are for

or H crochet hook & locking stitch marker.
Learn to Spin - 3 hours (Cost: $40)
Instructor: Kelora Goethe
Call and arrange a time with Kelora for your class.
Come learn how to spin on a wheel. If you don’t have a wheel, we’ll let you borrow one of ours. If you
want to use your own wheel, it must be complete and in good working order (no antique wheels please).
We will cover all the parts of the wheel, how to treadle, how to draft, and how to ply. By the end of the
class you should have a small ball of yarn you have spun up yourself and plied. Supplies: included

Come learn how to weave on a rigid heddle loom. If you have your own table top loom, you are welcome
to bring it. Otherwise, we will let you use one of our looms. You will learn about yarns to use, weaving
terms, how to warp and weft the loom, how to end your project, and how to set up your loom with
different patterns. You will make a scarf in this class. Supplies: 2 different colors of Cascade 220

Continental Knitting - 2 hours (Cost: $25)
Instructor: Kelora Goethe
Monday, August 1 (6-8 pm)
Friday, September 23 (10 am—Noon)
Have you ever watched a continental knitter and pondered what it would be like to
knit with such a smooth motion? Never letting go of your needle? Using much less
motion in your arm and shoulder? Maybe it’s time to add continental knitting to your
knitting toolbox! In this class you will learn to tension your yarn in your left hand for
knitting and purling. This method will make knitting & unknitting smoother and easier to discern errors,
and therefore correct those errors.
Supplies: worsted or DK weight yarn & needles to match.
Toe Up Socks - 4 hours (Cost: $40 )
Instructor: Kelora Goethe
Fridays, August 5 & 19 (10 am—Noon)
Toe-up socks are a great way to use up smaller balls of sock yarn and still complete the
socks before running out of yarn, especially if they are knit two at a time. In this class
you will learn to cast on using Judy’s Magic cast-on and a heel-flap heel worked from
the toes up. Socks will be knit on a 40” circular needle. Supples: 400 yards of sock
weight yarn, size 1-40” circular needle.
Next Steps in Knitting - 4 hours (Cost: $45)

essential skills for knitters from how to knit a gauge swatch and read a pattern to how
to fix a dropped stitch, as well as learning basic increases and decreases and picking up
stitches. Supplies: 1 skein Cascade 220 superwash yarn, size 7-24” circular needles &
