10
things
to love
about the
land
We’re known for our lakes. True. And
we’re proud of that. But it just isn’t right
to ignore the fact that those lovely
blue waters are surrounded by land.
Wonderful, beautiful, unique land.
We’re the home to some of the most
special land-based sights and activities in
Minnesota. And dare we say it—America.
Where else can you ride a bike through
terrain as red as Mars alongside crystal
clear lakes that were once mining pits? Or
how a out olfin at world lass ourses
designed by legendary architects by day,
and attend an outdoor concert by night?
For all you land-lovers, we’ve got land
you’re gonna love.

Mountain Biking
Wait, what? There are no mountains in
central Minnesota. But there ARE world-class
mountain biking trails! A short 15-minute drive
from Brainerd places you in the scenic land of
crystal-clear lakes and rough, red soil. Cuyuna
ountr tate e reation rea o ers o er
miles of riding through 800 acres, with trails
ran ed from as to trememl i ult
ith
the variety in trails, everyone ages 3 to 93 can
get in on the action. Visit our friends at the
Cuyuna Lakes Chamber for more information:
CuyunaLakes.com.
We’re not done with the biking quite yet.
There’s a new player in the game here in the
Lakes, and it’s hard to ignore—mainly because
it’s so big. Literally. The fatbike movement is
here is full force. What’s great about these
bikes is that you can ride them anytime of the
year, especially in winter. Dress for the weather
and roll. The large tires and wide rims make
a smooth ride out of any terrain. Snow, sand,
mud or rock, the fatbike is your versatile friend
for getting outdoors.

State Park and ending in Lake Bemidji State Park, has numerous
trailheads with am le ar in
en flats in lines, the trail is for
everyone. Want more challenge? Our recreational service members
can recommend rides to make your legs (good) burn. Tip: Want

10 Drive
We live in a region where we experience all four seasons in all their
splendor. Pick a season. Okay, let’s try Autumn. Stunning, colorful
drives abound. Take County Road 77 around Gull Lake. (Make
sure to drive through Lakeshore.) Summer? Meander through the
emerald trees of Pillsbury State Forest near Pillager. In the Spring
drive along the shores of Mille Lacs Lake and watch the mighty
ice pile up. Winter scenery is fantastic on the Paul Bunyan Scenic
Byway through Crosslake—take the cut across through Ideal

BRAINERD INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
GET UP AND GO, GO, GO!
We’re a well-rounded region, full of
lively nightlife, arts and action. Watch
a play. Enjoy a movie. Listen to a
concert—inside or outside. Get your
adrenaline pumping at the race track.
Talk to Paul Bunyan. Get lost in a corn
maze. Revisit the past at a museum.
Take a cruise.
Did you hear that? The chest shaking sounds of the NHRA Nationals
thunder into Brainerd International Raceway every August. Many other
racing events are also held at BIR each year, including Superbike racing
and Wednesday Night Drags. The BIR Performance Driving School puts
you behind the wheel with real drive time.
2 Music
Crystal Olson | CLC Theatre
Country to classical to rock, the melodies in the air of Lake country are
always sweet. Head to the Crosslake Outdoor Music Series, June–
August, a free event for the whole family. Lakes Jam brings rock and
country together in the great outdoors, with onsite camping, held at
Brainerd International Raceway. If you prefer Brahms to Bon Jovi, Lakes
Area Music Festival brings you chamber music, symphonic orchestra
and semi-staged opera. Encore!

Not only are we home to a fantastic public education system here in
the Lakes, but we also home to Central Lakes College, which boasts
a thriving theatre department. Students and community members
perform productions year-round to the applause of over 10,000 patrons.
Applause can also be heard, along with much laughter, at Geritol Frolics.
This musical variety show is presented by performers over age 55.

Why we love our
So far you’ve heard about all of the fantastic things to do in the Lakes that involve
water, land, dining and entertainment. This truly is just a small glimpse into what
we have to offer here in our beautiful neck of the woods. Our communities not only
provide opportunities for recreation and relaxation, but we also have a thriving
business community. The Brainerd Lakes is on the map for technology, workforce
solutions and outstanding education. Meander through our communities and you’ll
see why we love the Lakes so much. We think you will, too.

Brainerd/Baxter
Brainerd/Baxter has the best of both worlds.
Old town nostalgia in downtown Brainerd
and new town buzz in lively Baxter. Retail
stores take central stage along the stretch
of Highway 371 that leads north, as well
as many hotels that boast waterparks and
meeting spaces. Conventions, reunions
and even birthday parties are made more
fun at these family-friendly
lodging properties. Downtown
Brainerd has history and charm,
recreation and business. The
mighty Mississippi runs through
town with natural spaces to
enjoy, while the business side
flourishes with law firms, retail
shops, schools and more.
