Gout: Optimizing Disease Management 2014
Advance your skills in the safe prescribing of opioid analgesics through
this important session. Learn how to comprehensively assess patients for
chronic pain, tailor therapy, manage side effects, evaluate and mitigate risk
for dependency and other aberrant behaviors, and promote adherence to
achieve best possible analgesic and functional outcomes.
New therapies that target the kidney are altering the treatment landscape
of type 2 diabetes. In this session, learn about the mechanisms of renallymediated glucose transport and how novel agents may be incorporated
into current treatment paradigms.
Clinical insights on individualizing therapy for type 2 diabetes, with a
focus on incorporating GLP-1 receptor agonists into multimodal regimens
to improve glycemic control.
A review of the latest clinical evidence and treatment strategies for mixed
dyslipidemia, very high triglycerides, and dyslipidemia in the context of
prior MI or T2DM.
Shift work disorder (SWD) is a common and underdiagnosed circadian
rhythm sleep disorder. This session covers the physiology of circadian
rhythm misalignment and its negative consequences on overall health,
screening and diagnosis of SWD, principles of good sleep hygiene, and
nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment options.
Strategies for initiating and titrating insulin, selecting insulin therapy, and
overcoming patient resistance to improve adherence and glucose control.
Gout is an often debilitating, sometimes crippling joint disorder and one
of the most common rheumatic diseases of adulthood. In this session, get
the basics on evidence-based management of gout, including diet and
lifestyle recommendations, setting serum urate targets, and guidelinedirected pharmacologic therapy to control and prevent attacks and limit
joint damage.
