From The Publisher
Happy New Year Everyone! New
year, and we’re off to a fresh start.
We are in for some crazy political
hi-jinks with elections coming up
and the economy in the tank.
Wow, did you hear that
“Protesters” were named person of
the year by Newsweek magazine.
Well, that’s how women got the
right to vote, and soon women
(and men) all over the world
will gain more freedoms than
ever before because they had the
courage to protest. The internet
has changed the world for the
better giving many a voice they
never had.
This issue of the magazine focuses
on schools and after school
activities. Choose those activities
that best suit your youngster and
be sure to throw in some that
make them move it, move it!
We’ll be serving up lots of cool
events and happenings again
this year, so stay tuned and
keep in touch.
Cheers!!

2010 Census: By 2050 1 in 3 US
Inhabitants Will Speak Spanish
Nationally speaking, the number of Hispanics
increased more than 50% in the 1990s. This
segment grew much faster than the population
as a whole, and according to U.S. Census data
it is estimated that it will grow by more than
1.7 million per year. The historic concentrations
remain in California, Texas, Florida
and Illinois, however, there is
phenomenal growth throughout
the country and by 2020, Hispanics
are expected to make up nearly
20 percent of the total U.S.
population. Figures released by the
government after the 2010 Census
show that by the year 2050 1 in 3
US inhabitants will speak Spanish.

Spanish language study in the U.S. is
booming and so is the demand for customized
instruction. Learning to speak Spanish not only
makes sense for travelers who wish to enhance
their experiences abroad, and for students who
are fulfilling graduation or college entrance
requirements, but it has become a survival
skill, a necessity and a priority within
businesses and professions of all kinds, and
for those who are preparing to gain the
competitive edge in employment and in the
international marketplace.
Globalization, enhanced U.S. relations with
Latin America and the exploding growth of
Spanish speakers in the United States have
made it imperative for corporations, small
businesses, service providers and every level of
state and federal government to seek personnel
who are bilingual or have a working knowledge
of the Spanish
language and an
understanding of
cultural aspects.
Spanish is the
official language of
20 countries and is
spoken by nearly
450 million in a total
of 43 countries.

executives, politicians, medical and public safety
personnel, government agency employees,
service industry workers and others are studying
Spanish in local classrooms, private offices,
educational institutions and abroad.
The Tomás Rivera Policy Institute, a California
policy research organization found that 70
percent of Hispanics watch television in
both Spanish and English, underscoring the
importance of bilingual outreach. The Koslow
Research Groups found that Spanish language
commercials were more persuasive and more
effective at creating awareness than English
commercials, even among bilingual Hispanics.
Understanding Hispanics on multiple levels,
which goes beyond language, is essential to
effectively reaching and serving all segments
of this population.
Language of Business is the
Language of the Customer
How are American corporations meeting
the challenge of communicating with this
population segment whose needs and demands
for access to every type of service are growing
exponentially? Corporate America is spending
millions of dollars to advertise in Spanish
language media, recruit bilingual executives
and preparing their employees to compete
successfully in a thriving market. One example
is a major U.S. telecommunications corporation
that is transforming itself into a bilingual
company to assure the Hispanic community
is served. It views this move as vitally
important to its own long-term growth and to
empowering Latinos by providing access to all
the opportunities the economy has to offer.
Admittedly for some, learning Spanish is not
a choice, but a necessity. Others are motivated

by a desire to communicate and by feelings of
incompetence. Whatever the reasons might be, it
makes good sense to learn Spanish now, so that
you can increase business and profits, provide
access to all types of services, and foster good
community and international relations. Take
advantage of the opportunities that abound for
those who are teaching, learning and living the
Spanish language.
Spanish Language Programs
in Miami
A good percentage of the children in Miami
are able to understand a second language
to varying degrees, but a much smaller
percentage are capable of communicating in
a language other than English. Most public
and private schools offer adequate language
programs but large class sizes may limit
maximizing each child’s potential to develop
communicating and writing skills.
Step by Step Languages opened its doors
in Miami in the year 2000 and by February
2003 the children’s program was introduced.
The company has seen success since 1973 in
both Europe and Latin America with its focus
on small class sizes of 2 to 4 students and
innovative methodology. At Step by Step, kids
and teens can experience the joy of learning
a foreign language in a professional and
nurturing environment. Enroll now for the
2012 after school program. Call Roberto
Giuffredi at 305 666 6609 to register.

There’s a new community skate
court at Kendall Indian Hammocks
Park, marking the fourth skateboard
facility that Miami-Dade Parks has
opened since 2009.
“This is a great example of the good
things that can happen when governments and citizens work together to
turn a dream into a reality,” said Miami-Dade Parks Director Jack Kardys.
“As Miami-Dade Parks strives to help
kids stay active and healthy, with
community input we are developing
creative and innovative play spaces in
our parks, such as skateboard facilities,
that encourage youth to get outdoors
and exercise.”
The new 120’ x 120’ skate court
features a variety of ramps, jumps
and grinding rails for skaters of different skill levels, and also features
shaded bleachers for spectators. The project was funded with
$585,000 from Park Impact Fees.
The 116.5 acre Kendall Indian
Hammocks Park, located at 11395
SW 79 Street, Miami, also has 5 pavilions, a picnic deck, barbeque
grill pits, three softball fields, a High
School baseball field, two 18-hole
disc golf courses, two soccer fields,
three playgrounds, a vita course,
nature trails and walking paths.
Miami-Dade Parks’ other skateboard facilities include South Dade
Park, Westwind Lakes Park and
Country Village Park--the County’s
first skate park, opened in July 2009.
A fifth skateboard facility is slated
for development in 2012 for the
northwest portion of the County at
North Trail Park.
The Kendall Indian Hammocks
Park skate court will be open at
1pm, weekdays; 10am, Saturdays;
11am, Sundays/holidays; and
closes daily at sundown. The cost
to skate is $2 weekdays and $5 on
weekends/holidays. The facility offers skateboard and helmet rentals,
as well as lessons for beginners. For

La Scuola
La Scuola is a Reggio Emilia inspired school that
welcomes children from Infants – 5th grade. The
school’s unique educational approach provides
children the opportunity to be engaged and
captivated by hands-on learning experiences!
Through direct experiences, children master skills
and bring their learning to life! Children learn
how to think as opposed to how to repeat or
draw on rote facts. They learn to work individually
and as a group. This is a school where children,
even the youngest, are challenged to excel
while growing up in a supporting and nurturing
environment! 13301 SW 87 Ave (near the Falls),

By Dr. Raym
By Laurie Puhn
“There are two sides to every
argument, until you take one,” said
Milton Berle. Whether you know it or not,
smart people have dumb arguments about
unimportant things. Rather than continuing to
allow such arguments to stress us out and poke
holes in our relationship, we can become “conflictwise,” by learning to recognize and sidestep them.
For instance, a while ago my husband and I were
driving to a 99¢ store to buy some party supplies.
I mentioned, “You know, a lot of these so-called
99¢ stores charge more than 99¢ for many of the
items they sell.”
“Not possible,” he said. “All 99¢ stores sell
everything at that price. That’s why they’re called
99¢ stores.”
“That’s not true. You don’t know because you haven’t
been to one. The 99¢ thing is just a way to get more
people into the store,” I explained.
“Why would they call it a 99¢ store if it’s not one?”
he shot back, still trying to convince me.
“Wait a minute,” I blurted out. “This is a dumb
argument about a fact. Why don’t we just hold on for 10
minutes, get to the store, and we’ll have our answer?”
He agreed, so we shut our mouths and found the
answer in the store. (I was right!).
We were having a dumb factual argument, exactly
the kind of worthless, energy-draining fight I discuss
with my couples mediation clients, and write about in
my book, Fight Less, Love More. The argument topic
could be anything from the name of a restaurant to
a random statistic, but the wise response to this type
of conflict is to pause and say, “We’re having a dumb
argument, let’s stop fighting and check the fact on the
internet, or call a friend.”
Now that sounds like common sense, right? But if it’s
so easy to be sensible in the moment, then I suggest you
consider whether you’ve been involved in another type of
dumb argument: the post-argument
argument. This happens when you’ve
gotten what you want but then you
have just one more thing to say …
and so the fight starts all over again.
How come we can’t just quit while we’re
ahead? From my perspective as a mediator, the
post-argument argument happens because the one
word “okay” isn’t good enough for most people. Why?
Because, we are driven to win an even greater victory,
something more than our mate’s agreement, we want that
person to admit that we were 100% right from the start.
When we become aware that we are heading down that
destructive path, it’s time to close our mouths and leave
well enough alone. Anything else is downright, well, dumb.
If the above-described arguments (the factual and
post-argument ones) sound familiar to you, this third
one might too – the dumb premature argument. An
example of this might be fighting over whether to buy
a ranch or colonial style house, when you move out of
your apartment, in three years, when your child hits
kindergarten age.
If an argument revolves around something that can’t
be acted upon for a long time, it’s premature because
facts, preferences and circumstances will change
over time. As a result, your opinion will most likely be
altered by the time the decision becomes imminent. If
you’re arguing about something that doesn’t need an
immediate decision, short-circuit the fight by saying,
“Why don’t we wait to have this discussion until we
actually need to?”
Why do we lose our common sense from time
to time? Because we are human, and emotion will
overtake our logic, if we let it. Hereafter, to avoid dumb
arguments, take charge, engage your brain, identify the
type of dumb argument you’re having, and button your
lip. Most likely, you will have a good laugh instead of a
bad argument.

Everywhere you turn, the news about the cost of college
is grim. With higher education institutions raising tuition and
room and board at a rate of double to triple that of inflation,
for many parents the numbers are downright daunting.
However, early planning can make college a reality for your
child—and it is never too early to start saving.
Start now. The sooner you start saving, the more you will
be able to reap the rewards of compounding interest—and
even a relatively small monthly investment adds up quickly.
For example, if you invest $80 a month starting at your
child’s birth and the account earns an average of 6 percent
annually, by age 18, that account will hold over $30,000.
Take advantage of the 529. The 529 college savings
plan is offered in every state and allows account holders to
save for a student’s qualified higher education expenses:
tuition, room and board, fees, books and computers. Better
yet, withdrawals used for that purpose are free of federal
income tax. In addition, earnings are not subject to federal
tax (or state tax, either, in most cases).
Pre-pay for college. If you’re willing to bet that your
child will stay in state for college, state prepaid tuition plans
can be an excellent option. Prepaid tuition plans are run
by states’ prepaid tuition programs, but not every state
offers them. Parents can purchase tuition (at their state’s
public four-year institutions and community colleges) at
today’s prices. You can also purchase private college tuition
529 plans (www.privatecollege529.com), which allow prepurchased tuition certificates to be used for undergraduate
tuition for up to 30 years after purchase—no matter how
much tuition rises. Today, there are 270 participating private
institutions. Like the 529 savings plan, earnings are not
subject to tax and withdrawals used for higher education
are free of federal income tax.
Solicit help…from the grandparents. Do your (or
your spouse’s) parents have the wherewithal to regularly
or occasionally contribute to your child’s college savings
account? Keep in mind that to avoid negatively impacting
your child’s eligibility for student aid, the grandparent can
open a 529 account him or herself, which will not affect the
child’s need-based eligibility. If your parents are not able
to make regular contributions, you can still tell them—as
well as aunts and uncles or close family friends—that
contributions to the savings account are always appreciated
in lieu of birthday or Christmas gifts, especially when your
child is young. While an 18-year head start may not seem
sufficient to amass enough funds to pay even part of your
child’s tuition, starting early does make a difference. When
the time comes, you and your child can weigh additional
options to supplement that nest egg—part-time work while
your child is a student, financial aid, scholarships and more.
For now, put away what you can as frequently as you can.
Your diligence will pay off.

Learning Center, which has helped children

We take electricity for granted because
it’s part of our homes, businesses, public
buildings. But carelessness in our use
of it in our homes a can result in serious
injury, fires, and possible death. Most
electrical accidents come from one of
the following factors: unsafe equipment
or installation, unsafe environment or
unsafe work practices.
Electrical safety in the home:
• Use only appliances and equipment approved by
Underwriters Laboratories. (Look for the UL listing
on the label).
• Keep all radios, hair dryers and other appliances
secured or out of bathrooms. Hair dryers should never
be used near water-filled tubs or sinks. Teach your
children that electricity and water don’t mix.
• Don’t overload electrical outlets. If your TV picture
shrinks or flickers when major appliances are turned
on, or if you notice that fuses or circuit breakers blow
out frequently, then you should have your circuits and
wiring checked.
• Never unplug or carry an appliance by its cord.
Don’t run cords under carpets or furniture.
The cords can overheat and/or become frayed.
• Teach your children not to poke things into
electrical outlets, toasters, or any other appliance,
whether they’re on or off.
Outdoor safety reminders:
• Keep all ladders and tools at least ten feet away
from any power lines. Put up ladders only when you
have work to do. Make sure that if the ladder fell,
it would not contact any power lines or electrical
equipment.
• Any outdoor outlets should be on a circuit that is
protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI).
These are required in newer homes in bathrooms,
garages, outdoors and near sinks. GFCIs can be
added by an electrician.

• Teach your children not to fly kites near power lines
or around electrical substations.

• Teach your children not to climb or play in trees
if there are power lines nearby or lines touching
or growing through the branches.

Thirty-one ideas – many of them from small
cultural groups helping to weave the arts into
South Florida’s DNA – have been selected as
2011 winners of the Knight Arts Challenge.
The challenge, a program of the John S.
and James L. Knight Foundation, is a community-wide contest helping to transform So Fla
through the arts. In its 4th year, the challenge
is investing $2.9 million in projects that will:
• Bring the arts into people’s everyday lives,
through opera performances in unexpected
places, pop-up sculptures on Miami Beach,
concerts downtown and in Miami-Dade parks
and artist-lead bus tours of Miami’s lesser
known points of interest.
• Tell Miami’s unique story, by portraying
coral as a living art form in public exhibits,
expanding an artist-in-residence program
in the Everglades and creating a mentorship
program for African-American playwrights.
• Help develop a recognizable “Miami” style
of dance by launching a new dance company
and offering opportunities for local and
international choreographers.

Men of the
American
Revolution
Completing one war, still engaged in
another, and especially during the year ahead
as we contemplate the upcoming presidential
election, our country is on the cusp of major
changes. We can experience the urgency
of a similar period in our country’s history
through the pages of these amazing books.
Choose from this list to share the adventures
of these brave and talented individuals whose
persuasive skills and daring helped to shape
a nation whose freedoms we cherish.
by Meribeth C. Shank
Lafayette and the American Revolution
The Many Rides of Paul Revere
by Russell Freedman. Holiday, $24.95, Ages 10-13
by James Cross Giblin. Scholastic, $17.99, Ages 9-12
While still a teen, young Gilbert de Lafayette,
who was born into a wealthy French family, joined
his fortune and reputation to that of the American
patriots, viewing the war between England and its
colonies as a chance to demonstrate his abilities
and commitment. Such an opening was unavailable
in France, where there was no war in which to
prove oneself, and where appointments were given according to position
and wealth, not ability. Serving under General Washington, provided him
with the opportunity to learn, and ignited a friendship between the two
– “the forty-five-year-old commander who had never fathered a son, and the
nineteen-year-old French nobleman who had never seen his father.
Author Freedman, whose biographies for children regularly win
awards, writes with absorbing detail and infuses his stor ytelling with
anecdotes of Lafayette’s early life giving shape to his eagerness to
show what he can do. Paintings, por traits, engravings, and pages from
documents accompany the text on nearly ever y double page spread,
adding interest and setting Lafayette’s eventful life in the context of the
era in which he lived.
As Lafayette’s tour of duty with the American army extended and his rank
was no longer “honorary,” he was granted command, shared hardships
with his men, negotiated treaties with Indian tribes, and grew in admiration
and respect for Washington. These experiences supplied him with an
insider’s view and, uniquely positioned, Lafayette returned to France to
persuade his king and country to support the colonies.
Following the conclusion of the war and Lafayette’s arrival in France
amid great acclaim, he continued to work, during his long life, for the
same ideals in France, he had fought for in America. Includes a Time Line,
Source Notes, a Selected Bibliography, and Index.
Award-winning author, editor, lecturer and avid history buff
Giblin once again makes a revolutionary war hero accessible
to young readers with his formidable storytelling talents.
Engravings, paintings, drawings, portraits, and photos in
sepia tones illustrate the engrossing text on almost every
page, inviting readers into the life of a first-generation
immigrant American whose work for the revolution took
many different forms.
Revere was a master craftsman silversmith, learning the craft as a
youngster, apprenticed to his skilled father. When British rule pressed hard
on colonists’ incomes, Revere acquired new skills, becoming a dentist and a
copper engraver. As the owner of a horse, Revere added “messenger for the
revolution” to his many tasks, making numerous rides across the countryside
on missions that not only involved carrying messages, but put him in a
position to win support for his city of Boston in its times of need.
Revere later built a powder mill and made gunpowder for the colonists’
army! After the war Revere continued to support the newly independent United
States by setting up a foundry in Boston’s shipyards and producing a wide
variety of objects in daily use, such as iron hammers and stoves. As needs in
the new country grew, Revere developed his capacities further, repairing and
casting bells for church towers, even making metal fittings for ships. He also
built the first rolling mill in America; to produce sheet copper for the bottoms
of ships, to cover the dome of the Boston Statehouse, and to protect boilers,
on the then-new steamships, from exploding.
After his death at the age of 83, newspapers paid him tribute, calling him an
early and tireless Patriot. Additional featured material at the end; the famous
poem “Paul Revere’s Ride,” its author Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and a brief
Comparison, a Time Line, Historic Sites to Visit, with a map of Boston and
surrounds, Source Notes and Bibliography, and Index.
The Crossing: How George Washington Saved the American Revolution
by Jim Murphy. Scholastic, $21.99, Ages 9-12
An early indecisive leader, readers can observe the amateur George Washington grow into a strong confident commander as he
organizes unruly rebellious men into a disciplined army and in the process is shaped by the responsibilities he assumes and strategies he
crafts. Attentively researched, written with vigorous language, and supported by carefully chosen paintings, maps and engravings, author
Murphy, recognized for his award-winning nonfiction, shares his passion for his subject in the nimble text and play-by-play of the fighting, as
if readers were participants. Quoting from letters and journals, Murphy energizes this book with the voices of those who were there, as they
recount what happened, and the secrecy surrounding many of Washington’s orders.
Constantly coping with deserters and inexperienced troops, Washington kept up a “hit-and-run style of fighting, avoiding head-to-head”
combat and with the remaining committed, trained fighters, who grew to trust and follow him, he transformed the army and himself,
helping to birth a new nation. While not a thorough account of the many long years of war, this book shows Washington’s emerging leadership, his skill as a
strategist, and his ability to inspire loyalty and maintain a following.
With an Introduction, Timeline, Notes and Sources, Index and a list of Revolutionary War Sites to visit in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, the
backmatter also includes a reproduction of the famous painting of Washington crossing the Delaware, and a brief commentary on the painting itself.

REEL LIFEE
WITH JAN
— by Jane Louise Boursaw
Movie reviews
for you and
your family
MOVIES in January
The new year opens with an old favorite.
The classic tale of Beauty and the Beast
is returning to theaters in 3D. Also this
month: Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher,
Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton as
squabbling choir singers, and Marley as
an adorable puppy. Here’s what’s new in
theaters and on DVD/blu-ray in January.
JOYFUL NOISE
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (3D)
PG-13 for some language, including a sexual reference.
In theaters 1/13. Ok for kids 11+.
Rated G. In theaters 1/13. Ok for kids 4+.
It’s a choir competition movie!
Which means you already know
the storyline and ending! But with
Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton,
expect lots of fun, joy and music.
Latifah plays Vi Rose Hill, the
director of the Divinity Church
Choir in the economically-stressed
town of Pacashau, Georgia. She aims to lead the choir to a win at
the National Joyful Noise Competition, but fiery G.G. Sparrow
(Parton) has her own ideas. Adding to the mix is Sparrow’s
rebellious grandson, Randy (Jeremy Jordan), who has an ear for
music and an eye on Vi Rose’s talented daughter Olivia (Keke
Palmer). Courtney B. Vance and Kris Kristofferson round out the
cast of this Todd Graff-directed movie. For anyone keeping track,
he played Hippy Carnes in 1989’s The Abyss.
THE IRON LADY
I’m not sure how I feel about classic family movies
returning to theaters in 3D. The cynical side of me
says they’re just trying to ring every last dollar out
of the franchise. And 3D movies aren’t cheap, so
you wonder if parents will fork over the cash at
the theater instead of just plugging in the DVD
at home. But the it’s-all-good side of me is happy
that new generations can see wonderful films like
Beauty and the Beast as they were intended -- on
the big screen. We all know the story: Lovely Belle
(voiced by Paige O’Hara) is unhappy with life in
her small provincial French town and constantly
fends off the misplaced affections of conceited Gaston (Richard White).
When Belle’s father Maurice (Rex Everhart) is imprisoned by The Beast
(Robby Benson), she offers herself instead and discovers her captor to
be an enchanted prince. Directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise, this
film also features the voices of Angela Lansbury, David Ogden Stiers,
and Jerry Orbach.
PG-13 for some violent images and brief nudity. In theaters 1/13. Ok for kids 12+.
Is there anyone that Meryl Streep can’t play? Let’s take stock: Julia Child (Julie & Julia), Karen Silkwood
(Silkwood), Susan Orlean (Adaptation), Karen Blixon (Out of Africa) and Anna Wintour (well, if you believe
Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada was based on Wintour). Now the queen of stage and screen is
playing former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, a woman who smashed through gender and class
barriers to rise to the top in a male-dominated world. The film follows Thatcher from her early years to her
reign as prime minister to her political downfall in 1990. With Streep onboard, this film is a great history
lesson about a complex and powerful woman. Directed by Phyllida Lloyd (who also directed Streep in
Mamma Mia!), this movie also stars Jim Broadbent as Thatcher’s husband Denis and Richard E Grant and
Anthony Head as cabinet ministers Geoffrey Howe and Michael Heseltine.
DVDs in January
MARLEY & ME: THE PUPPY YEARS
THE LAST LIONS
PG for some mild rude humor. On DVD/blu-ray 1/03. Ok for kids 7+.
PG for some violent images involving animal life.
On DVD/blu-ray 1/03. Ok for kids 8+.
Sure, we all sobbed our eyes out at the end of
Marley & Me, the 2008 movie starring Owen Wilson,
Jennifer Aniston and that adorable dog who left
chaos in his wake. And sure, we know how it ended,
which means … no sequels. But that doesn’t mean
no prequels, and I’m sure we’ll see young Marley
outwitting evil real estate developers and witnessing
mob hits in upcoming stories. This straight-to-DVD
tale, directed by 80’s pop heartthrob Michael Damien (he sang
“Rock On”), pairs the pup with pal Bodie Grogan (Travis Turner)
and together, they wreak havoc at a neighborhood dog contest.
Aniston and Wilson are MIA, so Marley (voiced by Grayson Russell)
gets to narrate his own misadventures.
Seems like we should be making progress on
environmental and animal issues, doesn’t it? Then
again, maybe not. Fifty years ago, nearly half a million
lions roamed Africa, but that number has dwindled to
around 20,000, thanks to poaching and other travesties.
To make matters worse, lions, unlike elephants,
have virtually no protection under government or
international mandates. All this and more is covered
in this well-researched documentary from husband and wife team
Dereck and Beverly Joubert, award-winning filmmakers from
Botswana and National Geographic Explorers-in-Residence.
This film is beautiful and moving, with stunning cinematography.

SID THE SCIENCE KID:
SID IN MOTION
Rated G. On DVD 1/10. Ok for kids 2+.
Co-produced by the Jim
Henson Company, this
animated PBS series
celebrates exploration,
discovery and science
among preschoolers.
Personally, I think the
show is fun for adults,
too, because somewhere along the way,
we stopped asking “why?” Not so with the
energetic and inquisitive Sid, who starts
each episode with a new question and sets
about finding answers: “What happens to
stuff you throw away?”“Why do bananas
get mushy?” and “How can I measure a
whale with my ruler?” In the case of this
DVD, it’s all about motion.
TREASURE BUDDIES
Rated G. On DVD/Blu-ray 1/31. Ok for kids 7+.
I wish I was as well
traveled as the Buddies.
They sure get around,
don’t they? This all new
story finds Rosebud,
B-Dawg, Budderball,
Buddha and Mudbud
embarking on their
biggest adventure yet: to the ruins of
ancient Egypt. With the help of some exotic
new friends, teamwork and friendship,
the Buddies must avoid booby traps, solve
puzzles and explore a mysterious tomb –
all in search of the greatest treasure known
to animal-kind. Bonus features include
“Roam,” an all-new music video performed
by the cast of Disney Channel’s Shake It
Up; and DIGS: B-Dawg Edition – Take a
tour of his blinged-out crib. Yes, that’s how
the official synopsis described it.
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD:
50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION
Not rated. On DVD/blu-ray 1/31. Ok for kids 11+
It’s been 50 years since
Atticus Finch (Gregory
Peck) took on a highprofile case in a racially
divided Alabama town
in the 1930s. The single
dad and lawyer agrees to
defend a young black man
accused of raping a white
woman, and his kids Scout (Mary Badham)
and Jem (Phillip Alford) learn a few things
about prejudice in the process. Since
many middle- and high-schoolers across
the country are reading the Pulitzer Prize
winning book by Harper Lee, it’s a great
time to grab the classic movie on blu-ray.

paths with the king and queen of the fairies, resulting in a night of moonlit mirth. Love
triumphs at dawn – but not before trickster Puck has had his way with all. This brilliantly
orchestrated comedy of confusion & desire probes the very nature of love. The production may use
gunfire & smoke, & herbal tobacco is smoked on stage. May not be suitable for a younger audience.
