Beyond Traditional Headshots
Assignment: Blair Wealth Management Group, RBC Dominion Securities
Industry: Wealth Management/Financial Services
David Blair is a Vancouver-based Portfolio Manager for RBC Dominion Securities. Yaletown
Photography was commissioned to take photos of David and his investment associates for
marketing collateral (website, quarterly newsletter, business cards).
The Challenge:
•
•
Images that look original and natural, yet completely professional
Some of the subjects were camera-shy and disliked having photos taken
The Briefing:
Sandra Leung met with David and his team in person to uncover their goals and to better
understanding of their marketing strategy. Meeting each of the associates ahead of time
also gave her the opportunity to create a friendly environment that would set them at
ease prior to the photo session.
The Objective:
Every client has slightly different goals. Here’s what was important for David and
his team:
•
•
•
Up-to-date images that would refresh the existing website and quarterly
newsletter
Professional photos, without being the typical headshots. These needed to
be creative and just a little unconventional, images that would stand out in
the financial services industry
Capture each individual, even the ones uncomfortable with the process, as
natural and dynamic as possible while also trustworthy and inviting

Beyond Traditional Headshots
The Results:
•
On location photo session, outdoors in Downtown Vancouver
In order to create images that were dynamic and unconventional, Sandra
selected an outdoor site that offered a corporate-looking backdrop while
allowing her to capture creative, natural poses and a local, Westcoast feel.
•
A select wardrobe color palette
Choosing to stick with a corporate color palette supported the professionalism
that needed to be conveyed, while wardrobe particulars ensured the look was
contemporary, and wardrobe selections would complement one another in the
group shots.
•
Collaborate with the team
Creating a lighthearted atmosphere ensured that the subjects enjoyed
themselves and didn’t feel like having photos taken was difficult or awkward.
By explaining the process and creating a sense of collaboration, the shoot
became a positive experience for everyone.
•
Fine Tuning
As always, attention to detail in post processing – retouching and file formatting
ensured top quality images in multiple formats to suit a variety of marketing
materials
