Click on Summer 2015 to begin registration. Register for an account: If you have not yet registered for an account in previous seasons, click the “Register” button beneath the “Member Sign In” section on the right side of the screen. After filling out the registration form, you can continue to register for classes as listed below. If you have an account with the registration system, please log in and continue. Finding Activities: On the home page, you will see most activities listed beneath each category head, such as Youth Team Sports, Individual Sports, Classes, etc.. If not all of the activities are listed, click “More” at the bottom of each category. Click on the activity that you are interested in. After navigating through pages to find the specific age category and time you would like to register for, a screen will show you the class dates, time, and availability. Registering: If you want to register for a class, click on the “Register” button on the bottom right hand corner of the Class Details screen. After clicking Register on the bottom of this page, you will see your shopping cart. You can search for and add more activities to your cart, or you can choose to checkout using any of these major credit cards. If you are unable to pay by credit, you can come in to City Hall with check or cash to register for activities. REGISTRATION POLICY 13 June 2015 www.dammarathon.com 1.Parent or guardian must register all participants under the age of 18. 2. All fees must be paid at time of registration. 3.Registration is only available online at www.rexburg.org. (There is a computer at City Hall available for those who do not have access to the Internet.) LATE REGISTRATION A $5 fee will be assessed for all late registrations. Late registration for non-team activities will be vary by activity start date (but no more than 7 days before the start date). Late registration for team sports will also be accepted when teams are established, individuals who register late will be placed on a waiting list and added to rosters based on availability. PROGRAM REFUND POLICY Volunteer coaches are needed! Volunteer coaches will be refunded one (1) child’s registration fee in the sport in which he/she coached. Refunds will be given at the end of the season. Activity refunds will be granted if the request is received five (5) working days prior to the scheduled start of the activity. A $5 fee will be assessed. For classes taught by instructors, refund requests received within the five (5) days before the start of the class will NOT receive a refund. If the Recreation Department cancels or reschedules an activity (i.e. low class registration or facility conflicts), a full refund will be granted. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Need-based scholarships are available for Rexburg Residents. Applications can be filled out at City Hall. Please contact the Recreation Department for details. NON-RESIDENT FEE The Rexburg Parks and Recreation Department is funded by city tax dollars. A $5 fee is assessed to non-resident participants to offset the cost to city tax payers. PHOTOS & VIDEO The Recreation Department reserves the right to take photos and videos of individuals participating in team sports and programs. The department may use the photos in upcoming recreation guides or promotional advertising without paying compensation to any individual or entity for the likeness, image, name, and/or signature of any adult or their child in photographic or other works appearing in any and all media (presently known). This league is meant to teach the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and positive manner. Watch your child’s skill and self-esteem improve over the course of the season. Soccer is our largest team sport program. Learn new or improve existing soccer skills and fundamentals. Enjoy the benefits of physical fitness while learning the value of team work. Cost includes team shirt. Players must wear shorts and have shin guards (not provided). Offered for Grades K-1 and Grades 2-3. The City of Rexburg has created a community garden facility for our city residents. This garden is located at Riverside Park, on the open lot east of the entrance drive into Rexburg Rapids. Approximately 30, plots will be available at a cost of $10 - $20 per plot, with water for irrigating included in the cost. Gardener’s will be responsible for fertilizing, planting and maintaining their plots. The gardeners will be responsible for loss of crops due to weather, birds and animals, theft. If you are interested please contact DeeDee Tucker or Bob Yeatman at City Hall (359-3020) for additional information or to rent or reserve your plot(s). Individual Sports Tennis Lessons Grades 4-9: Beginning Tennis Skills Tennis Lessons Grades 4-9: Intermediate Tennis Skills Beginning Tennis Skills. Participants learn to hit ground strokes, to play the net, and the serve. They will also work on rallying skills and be introduced to competition. Classes are limited to 12 participants. Your child will improve coordination and build self-confidence. The class will move at the pace of the students. By the end of the course, not only will students have a good understanding of how to rock climb, but they will understand how to climb safely. Each class is based upon age and/or swimming ability, with each participant receiving four hours of instruction. This is a great opportunity for your kids to improve upon the skills that they already have and test those skills with a little friendly competition. Through the direction of a Swim Coach each swimmer will receive instruction to help their strokes to become more refined and efficient. This will be a fun experience for all involved. Sign up early to guarantee a spot in the fun – these classes tend to fill up quickly. There will be six two-week, swimming lesson sessions available. The class at Rexburg Rapids is a 25 hour course offering certifications in Lifeguarding First aid, CPR, and AED. As a participant you will receive a Red Cross Lifeguard Manual and a CPR mask. Certifications are based upon successful completion of the written exams and skills assessments. Be a lifeguard, keep people safe and save lives! Junior lifeguarding Camp for ages 11-14 years old learn the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard. While this class will not certify anyone as a lifeguard, the skills and knowledge gained will prepare one for successful completion of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course. 12 hours total training time. Each Friday from 8-11am 2 hours of instruction 1 hour guard shadowing. Each participant will receive a Junior Guard t-shirt. Teach people how to swim and give them a gift that might save their life someday. The class at Rexburg Rapids is approximately 31.5 hours in length. Participants will receive a WSI certification after successful completion of the written exam and skills assessments. Must be able to swim front crawl 25 yards breathing to the side or front, breast stroke 25 yards, tread water 1 minute, float on back for 30 seconds and submerge and swim 10 feet under water. While participating in this class, your child will be introduced to basic tumbling skills and other gross motor activities as well as explore motion through actions and song. This class curriculum for ages 2 &3 is designed with the involvement of a parent helper. Let’s sing, twirl, and jump for joy! This class is focused on having fun while using rhymes, songs, and games to explore the many ways our bodies can move. Moms welcome! Looking for something fun to do this summer? Join us for a fun class that includes both dance and tumbling! This class will focus on dance for half of the class, and tumbling skills for the other half. Your child’s gross motor skills will be explored as we stretch and move our bodies to upbeat children’s music. The dance class will be structured around basic ballet and jazz skills and students will learn a fun dance. The tumbling portion will teach many tumbling basics such as: forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels, back walk overs, hand stands and more. Please wear a leotard or tight fitting shirt with shorts or leggings. Hip Hop is a fun-filled high-energy classes. Rhythm, musicality and age appropriate hiphop moves will be taught to clean Hip Hop music. Jazz is a high-energy class that will incorporate flexibility and adding personality to the movements. Please wear clothing that you can move easily in such as a leotard or tight fitting shirt with shorts or leggings. Shoes are not required for jazz. Please bring tennis shoes for hip hop. Music and Theater Crafts Group Guitar Lessons (Ages 11-Adult) SUMMER SEWING CLASSES Students with little or no prior knowledge of the guitar will benefit from the program. Attention is focused on proper hand position, first position note reading, tablature reading, natural first position chords, and strum patterns. Popular songs are incorporated into the lessons. Class size is limited and peer/ mentor playing is supported and encouraged. Students will need to purchase a method book and supply their own instrument. This class is designed for those that have never used a machine before. Techniques covered will be: threading a machine, winding a bobbin, replacing a needle, different stitches and lengths, different presser feet and why you need them. It is recommended that students bring their own sewing machine; however, if you don’t own one yet, one can be provided to you with advance notice to the instructor. Fabric as well as thread will also be needed. Scrap fabric or an old sheet or pillowcase would work wonderfully. No projects will be completed in this class, just a basic knowledge of how to operate a sewing machine. Choose one session. Bring your daughter aged 10 and older and learn how to sew the basics together! In this class, we will learn how to make a new project each week. Week 1: bookmarks, Week 2: pillowcase, Week 3: simple tote bag, Week 4: simple elastic waist skirt. The second night you will learn how to make a simple elastic waist skirt. Supplies needed are: sewing machine, thread, pillowcase: ½ yard fabric, 6x44 inches coordinating fabric, fabric for skirt (formula for measuring fabric needed for skirt will be given at first class), and ½ inch wide elastic the length of waist. Choose one session. In this class you will learn how to make an envelope style pillow cover (buttons optional) the first night. The second night you will learn how to make curtain panels with a pocket for the curtain rod. Supplies needed are: sewing machine, thread, pillow form, ½ yard fabric for pillow cover, and fabric for curtains (formula for measuring fabric needed for curtains will be given at first class). Choose one session. Come learn what all the words and marks mean on that funny colored tissue paper! The first two classes we will be making a lined tote bag with a tie closure. Once completed, we will make a simple toddler dress with an elastic neck and ties in the back. Supplies needed: sewing machine, thread, bag: 5/8 yard main fabric and 5/8 yard coordinating fabric for lining, dress: 1 ¼ yard fabric. Choose one session. You will learn how to draw a basic quilt pattern using squares. You will cut the fabric and piece together a baby quilt top. Once finished we will learn how to baste a quilt sandwich and do straight-line machine quilting. We will learn how to roll the edges to make a binding. You will cut the fabric and piece together a baby quilt top. Once finished you will learn how to baste a quilt sandwich and do straight-line machine quilting. You will learn how to cut and piece together a separate binding for a great finished look. Supplies needed: sewing machine, thread, 7 fat quarter pieces for quilt top, baby sized quilt batting, 1 ½ yard backing fabric, 1/3 yard binding fabric. Supplies not required, but helpful: rotary cutter and mat, 6.5 inch square quilting ruler, ¼ inch seam presser foot, and walking presser foot. I will demonstrate how to do a simple free motion meandering quilting pattern. If you would like to gain hands on experience, you will need a sewing machine equipped with a darning presser foot. Bring scraps of fabric and batting to practice on. This technique requires a lot of practice and patience, but looks so amazing when finished. Choose one session.
