We'll be having our inaugural Spring Invitational Bestball on Saturday, March 30th, and the goal is to get members, their friends, or any other golfers out on the course to kick off the season. Entry forms are available in The Golf Shop, and the event is open to amateurs or professionals, club members or invited guests - see us if you have any questions. We've also decided to change things up a bit and have our course cleanup day on Monday, April 1st, which will be the same day we've scheduled our spring greens aerification. Our March cleanup dates have been unsuccessful the past few years, so we'll try this and have a morning of staff working on GREAT TIME AT BANDON - WHERE WILL WE VISIT NEXT?! the greens and members assisting with cleanup. Ladies' Day Thank you to the gang that went with us to Bandon Dunes and Men's Day activities will kick off the first week of April, and battled fog (Saturday) and sunshine (Sunday). The crew of while the Men's Masters will take place the second weekend of Mattioda, McClain, Roach, Pistole, Nielsen (squared), Green, the month. I'm also planning my 2013 OPGA PRO-AM event and Baty had a great time together, and boy, did it feel good to dates; let me know if you're interested in playing our great drive away from Bend and actually take a fresh divot. Thanks layouts in the state. Look for signups and information on these to the crew that went and helped to make it a good time. activities soon; also, calendars for men's, ladies', and all golf That being said, I'm happy to announce our next trip: THE activities will be published in the coming weeks. CHAMPIONSHIP EXPERIENCE AT CHAMBERS BAY! A trip to play the 2015 U.S. OPEN COURSE, as well as two other Welcome to 2013, everyone. I'm excited for our club to courses that have hosted national championships. This trip will welcome new (and old!) friends to our fantastic golf course, take place the last weekend in April in Tacoma, and for less and my play at Bandon Dunes was encouraging. Time to get than $500, we'll have three rounds of golf at Chambers Bay/ my gear out, hit some knockdowns into two-club winds, and Gold Mountain/The PNGA Home Course, two nights lodging at fiddle with my new driver settings. Let's pray for some nice the Murano Hotel in downtown Tacoma, and a Seattle Mariners days and the chance to play in February, as well as a nice game against the L.A. Angels. The first 11 to sign up for this spring (for once!) Fourteen fairways to all of you trip will be part of our inaugural club visit to the site of a major Erik Nielsen, Head PGA Professional championship. Just think - how many of us ever get to play a course BEFORE it hosts a U.S. Open? See me if you have questions, and look in The Golf Shop or on the club website to sign up. BURIED IN THE LIP! Some serious changes in the weather the past few weeks. We've gone from snow and ice to downright dusty as the course emerges from our December snowfall. As of the last week of January, the course remains closed; however, check with the Frostline (541.385.1973) to see if we can open on temporary greens at any point. The driving range will be open during regular hours in The Golf Shop; you just have to hit off mats for the next several weeks. A reminder that The Golf Shop is open from 9-4 on Wednesday through Sunday, and will open on a Tuesday IF THE GOLF COURSE IS OPEN FOR PLAY. Again, check the Frostline for updates. IT'S ALL GOING TO BE NEW TO YOU! I'm waiting to hear the buzz from the 2013 PGA Merchandise Show, and it will be interesting to hear about the newest in clubs, golf shoes, apparel, golf balls, and several additional categories in the golf marketplace. Right now, I'm most intrigued by the new Nike Covert driver and fairway woods, the Taylor Made R1 and Stage 2 RBZ, and new irons from Callaway. Other ideas from Cobra, Ping, Titleist, FootJoy, adidas, and Ashworth will be also targeting your golf game. Due to our winter season, many products don't arrive in Central Oregon until March and April; however, if you would like me to get you dialed in, or even just discuss the myriad of options out there, please feel free to see me. I'm happy to ask you several questions about your game, and how new products can give you an advantage. Along those lines, remember that the player and equipment must always meet halfway to get to lower scores. It's never too early to think about scheduling a lesson with myself or any member of our PGA Professional staff. If our weather continues to be above-par, please give us a call and we'd be happy to arrange a time so that you can get a jump on your peers. Also, my staff and I will be developing some new player initiatives for the spring - keep your eyes open for information to be posted online or in The Golf Shop. We have a few areas that have a couple inches of ice on the fairways, however, the greens are pretty much clear and looking very good. We have replaced the old pressure tank at our pump station that was causing problems and we are waiting for a frozen water pipe to our maintenance shop to thaw out. My mechanic is going through all of our equipment and replacing worn parts and sharpening mower reels, while the rest of the crew is working on painting ball washers, sanding and staining benches and rake handles, snow removal, and tree trimming. We will continue to monitor the golf course daily and update Erik in The Golf Shop. We will get the golf course open as soon as possible so you can get ready for the season ahead.
