T h e w o r k has been split i n t o eight
phases w h i c h c o v e r e v e r y t h i n g f r o m
d i g g i n g the hole in the g r o u n d to
f i n i s h i n g the c l a s s r o o m s .
W . H u s e r a n d S o n s were a w a r d e d
the c o n t r a c t f o r e x c a v a t i o n , b a c k f i l l
a n d slabs w i t h a price o f $16,610.
T h e same f i r m w i l l be r e s p o n s i b l e
for framing, millwork and doors.
T h a t tender was w o r t h $56,046.
They

firefighters out at 2 a m last F r i d a y .
J o c k S t e w a r t , the o c c u p a n t o f the
a p a r t m e n t , was t r a p p e d b y flames
a n d h a d to j u m p f r o m a w i n d o w . H e
was t a k e n to L a d y M i n t o H o s p i t a l
f o r treatment of injuries.
T h e fire was c a u s e d by a cigarette
w h i c h ignited a mattress, s a i d F i r e
Chief Bob Leask.
W h i l e S t e w a r t lay o n the g r o u n d ,
his shouts w o k e the other o c c u p a n t s
of the b u i l d i n g w h o got out safely.
D a m a g e was c o n f i n e d to the t o p floor apartment and minimal smoke
a n d water d a m a g e was c a u s e d to the
two lower-floor apartments.
D a m a g e was e s t i m a t e d at close to
$30,000.

h a d been set at $186,278.

school district
will

with various contractors
looking
after
the
various
parts
of
construction.
