Belonged to Robert Peel, fath er of Sir Robert Peel, from print works of Church and Bury. 1 Pattern Book of printed and woven textile designs from 1841-46 James Hardcastle & Co. ^Bradshaw Works. Samples of printed and dyed cloth stuck in the book. 1 Book recording instructions and reports on various 1809 dyeing processes for cotton, using different substances and how to obtain specific colours. Samples of printed and dyed textiles stuck in the book. Book inscribed *John Mellor Jnr. 1809". A.2.1967 1 Sample Book containing 19 small pieces of muslins made 1837 by John Bradshaw, Manufacturer, about 1837- John Bradshaw had previously been employed as manager of hand-loom weavers and in 1840 was appointed Relieving Officer for the Western District of Great Bolton. He commenced business as a manufacturer in 1837, in Green Street, Little Boltons plus fragment of cotton vesting and design for spotted muslin. Enlarged details of patterns for muslins: Plans for loom healds etc. for the production of various patterns, spots etc. in muslins: Note regarding number of dents per inch in grey cloth. 48-29 1/14 Collection of Fabric Pattern Books plus 1 record book and original fabric design paintings on paper - a l l of fabrics woven in Bolton area early 20th century. Purchased from Joseph Johnson (Bolton) Ltd., Deane Shed, Kirbrok Road, Hulton Lane, Deane, Bolton. (This collection consists of estimated 200 sample books in which are swatched an estimated 10,000 samples, mostly of woven cottons). (Refs- "Textile Collections of the World" by Cecil Lubell. T.1.1972 White patent s a t i n woven q u i l t (Commemorative), Centre panel bears the i n s c r i p t i o n - ' H a l l i w e l l Rd., Wesleyan Church, Bolton, opened 18th August 1869' - together with a p i c t u r e of the church. The centre panel i s surrounded by a conventionalised f l o r a l design. The q u i l t i s Jacquard woven and has been dyed pink at a l a t e r date. 90" x 95".
