Come to the center this summer, there is a lot going on that is
fun and informative to help us be all we can be. Whether it is
exercise opportunities, taking a class, joining a group, talking to a
new participant, seeing a Bastyr doctor, getting your teeth cleaned,
blood pressure checked, feet “done”, or laughing and sharing a
story or experience, there is never a dull moment at the center.
Join us, participate, and volunteer. This is a fantastic center.
I have written about United Way of King County’s cuts to 30 local
agencies serving seniors and the disabled. I want to mention this
again as there have been recent articles and mentions on TV. Let
me be clear, this is their absolute right to make these cuts and
support who they want. Their priorities are important but they do
not, in my opinion, seem to understand the vital role centers and
aging programs play to lift seniors out of poverty through providing
them with health services, regular meals, strong community
connections, and social services. They do not understand how we
help vulnerable seniors to remain independent and involved. 2015
figures show about 70% of elders that our agency serves have low
to very low income. I hope United Way changes its policies as we
all move forward. I personally want to thank the Ballard, Magnolia,
and Queen Anne communities for their support and understanding,
and Group Health for their generous $400,000 contribution to
Sound Generations. This center’s share is over $16,000. Thank all
of you for your support of seniors and the center.
I also want to invite you to look ahead to all our autumn activities
new and old. Please consider joining new programs like the Drum
Circle, the Wisdom Circle, and new speakers, trips, and activities.
Join us for the Members Only Luncheon, Art, Wine & Chocolate
event, and all our wonderful classes, groups, services, and
programs returning from summer break.
“A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is
blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.”
James Dent
We are a special center and that is because of you! Thank you.

2016 MEMBERSHIP DUES
Membership is a good deal for
participants. Dues are $50 per
calendar year. Members receive
reduced fees for most of our classes,
services and trips, and members are
also invited to Member only events. We
don’t want Membership fees to be a burden so we are offering
payment options; see the 2nd Floor Receptionist for details.
Membership is not required to participate in regular Center events,
programs and services, but it is a fantastic deal for you and supports
the Center.
FRIENDLY CENTER
We are ‘The Friendly Center’. Thanks for making everyone feel

ANNOUNCEMENTS
DRUM CIRCLE - FREE
We are interested in forming a facilitated drum circle.
Research has shown that drumming promotes optimal
health and wellness. The drum is the foundation of music,
and rhythm is the glue that sticks it together. Drums are
fun! Participants at other centers say “Playing the drum
makes me feel like a kid again.” The drum is cross cultural,
expressive, and easy to play. One leader said “seniors are
always looking for something new, fun, diverse, interesting,
and playful.” Lauren is looking for a trained leader. If you
are interested in being a part of a drum circle let us know!
Sounds good to me.
