On Sept. 9, 400 attendees came together at Riverbanks Zoo for the third annual Baby Reunion, sponsored by Advanced Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology Institute of West Columbia. All of the babies in attendance were conceived through in vitro fertilization or another fertility therapy at Advanced Fertility. All of the parents involved have emotional stories of the lengths they went through to have children of their own. But this was a day to just have fun at the zoo, join in fellowship with other parents and 10 C O L U M B I A M E T R O P O L I T A N visit with the physician that helped them achieve their dreams of families. Dr. Gail Whitman-Elia, founder and medical director of Advanced Fertility, invited all of her former patients to this special event. “It’s an opportunity to catch up and celebrate the miracle of life surrounded by these beautiful children and their loving parents,” she says. “I’m not sure who enjoys the event more … me or the parents!” One out of seven American couples will experience some level of challenge in conceiving a child.
