We are happy to advise on venues, routes and places of interest, both within the UK and Europe, also ferry reservations, theatre tickets, hotel accommodation... the choice is yours! The house dates from the 1750’s with fine interior decoration, family collections of furniture & portraits, and a renowned art gallery with local artists’ work. The daffodil society show will display hundreds of varieties of this much-loved spring flower, with expert advice on hand from Cornwall’s leading daffodil breeder. BLACK COUNTRY LIVING MUSEUM The Black Country was the world’s first industrial landscape and most intensely industrialised region of the UK. The West Midlands is home to one of the finest and largest open-air museums with over 26 acres to explore & discover our industrial past, including a village, charismatic residents to chat with, trams, mine shafts, limekilns and canal. Each house, shop and workshop is filled with collections that would have been in situ from the 1800s to 1940s. SLIMBRIDGE WETLAND CENTRE – DOWNY DUCKLINGS TOUR A must for all wildlife and nature lovers. The wetland area encompasses grasslands to shorelands of the Severn Estuary, where you can experience more than 200 species of wild birds, including 25 species of wildfowl, and also rare varieties such as kingfishers. Join us for a “downy duckling” tour accompanied by a resident duck expert to learn about all aspects of breeding, candling technique, & rearing of new-borns, where you will see the fluffy ducklings in the hatchling area. Sensible footwear is essential, & there is a short walk down to the hatchling area (5–10 min walk). Other walks & talks will be available to join on the day, and the restaurant serves a delicious menu. COOMBE TRENCHARD HOME & GARDEN SHOW Coombe Trenchard is a beautiful Edwardian House built in the arts & crafts style of the belle époque era, situated in rural West Devon. The Home & Garden show is held in the estate’s stunning gardens and showcases the best of southwest artisan crafts and produce, with plant stalls, handmade crafts and vintage home wares, together with local food produce and an art exhibition. SS GREAT BRITAIN & BRISTOL HARBOUR CRUISE Discover Brunel’s SS Great Britain - “the ship that changed the world”. Launched in 1843 and built with the latest in maritime technology of its day, SS Great Britain was a passenger steamship for Trans-Atlantic crossings from Bristol to New York, and also transported migrants to Australia. Explore the ship in the dry dock where she was originally built, stroll along her decks experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of a by-gone era. Take a peek into the luxurious cabins, the cramped kitchen galley & view the massive engine, discovering the stories of past passengers told over the ages. We later take an hour boat cruise around Bristol’s harbour with an on-board commentary. BBC COUNTRYFILE LIVE SHOW, BLENHEIM PALACE Join us for a major new event, as BBC’s Countryfile hosts a live event from the spectacular grounds of Oxfordshire’s Blenheim Palace, showcasing the very best of our countryside. Explore all aspects of the British countryside with over 600 exhibitors, live arena shows, talks, hands-on activities, wildlife zones, animal displays, food/craft produces and farming in action as Adam Henson brings his farm to Blenheim. Entry to Blenheim Palace is available at an additional cost payable on the day, with a discount on production of your BBC Countryfile ticket. BUCKHAM FAIR, BEAMINSTER Land owned by TV personality Martin Clunes, Buckham Fair is opened to the local community to enjoy a traditional English fair on his land to raise money for local charities. The day includes pony and dog displays, heavy horse show, vintage cars and the traditional fair rides such as helter skelter, big wheel and carousels. Stalls include local produce and hand-made crafts, and there is a “deli” tent to enjoy delicious treats from local producers. It will chart significant events in The Queen’s life and the nation’s history through a collection of dress, jewellery and accessories designed for many occasions, from childhood to the present day. The exhibition will present the fashions of ten decades, from the 1920s to the 2010s and will show the unique requirements of royal couture, from ceremonial and military attire to ensembles worn at family celebrations, such as weddings and christenings. FALMOUTH OYSTER FESTIVAL Celebrating the start of the oyster season, Falmouth is the location for the last European traditional oyster fishery which still uses the by-gone age technique of dredging by sail and hand punt. The festival on the quayside, now in its 20th year, also provides an opportunity to highlight the very best of Cornish seafood, with cookery demonstrations, tastings, live entertainment and craft stalls. There are many local restaurants, cafes & stalls offering food throughout the day, and Falmouth’s town centre is only a short walk away, as is the National Maritime Museum WESTONBIRT ARBORETUM IN AUTUMN The Westonbirt National Arboretum is located near Tetbury in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside, and is a special place to visit all year round. With over 15,000 trees, and over 2500 species including rare, native and champion trees there is so much to explore and discover in this spectacular setting. The leaves burst into colour as Autumn sets in, with flashes of orange, red and yellow exploding in the canopies above. Why not view the arboretum from the fantastic treetop walkway, securely suspended 13 metres above the ground, providing a step-free walkway suitable for all ages and mobility, winding its way through the tree top canopy into Silk Wood. TRURO CITY OF LIGHTS Truro plays host to the mid-winter lantern festival each year with a dazzling procession of tissue lanterns which float through the streets, handmade by local children and by professional craftsmen.
