PTA Newsletter November 2013 The PTA newsletter is a monthly update of social activities happening in and around the ISGR community. If you have comments, corrections or ideas for the newsletter, please email : [email protected] Content Social page What´s up in Gothenburg this event. The PTA are very grateful for your help and support so we would like to say a big thank you for all the hard work you have done and the work still to come! There is more information about this exciting event in the newsletter. 3-6 7-10 Calendar12 Many parents have been asking about the discos. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough volunteers to help with the organisation and the existing PTA committee were too busy with all the other tasks. We do need people to help with the discos, so please let Rachel [email protected] know if you are able to help. Welcome back Welcome back to school after what felt like a much needed holiday! I hope everyone had a great break and you are all ready for the busy weeks ahead as Christmas approaches! As usual the newsletter reports on some of the fantastic social events that have been organised over the last few weeks, and there are lots of ideas of things to do in the coming weeks. The plans and preparations for the Winter Bazaar are well underway. I know many of you are helping with This will be the last newsletter before the winter break so I would like to wish you all a very happy holiday and safe travels. Enjoy the newsletter! Sarah Loddick, Chair of PTA. THE ISGR FACEBOOK GROUP A lot of really useful information is posted on the ISGR Facebook page, from things like a reminder of the what and when the next event will be to a question posted by a new parent asking where to go to find the best value waterproofs for kids! We will of course advertise events using the newsletter and email, but as we (the PTA) can’t email all parents in the school directly, Facebook is a great way of communicating something immediately. Even if you don’t want to use it for anything else you are more than welcome to join our group. How to join the ISGR Facebook Group : 1.Log into your Facebook account or join Facebook. 2.Search for ISGR PTA Group 3.Request to be a member. In the message box please include your children’s name and grade this information will be used for verification only 4.You will be notified when the group administration approves your request Joining the group is completely voluntary and does not replace any other means of communication. -1- Winter Bazaar November 17 th 11.00-14.00 The ISGR Winter Bazaar is nearly here with lots of fun for all the family! And that is what some of us experienced this morning. Despite the Autumn rainfall, 23 ladies had the courage to join me on an artistic journey through the exciting Klippan and Röda Sten area. Once the core of Älvsborg Fortress, the home of East Indiaman and industry workers and now the place where pretty meets ugly, industry meets art and old meets new. To survive the weather our fantastic guide arranged the keys to some unique shelters enabling us to discover the insides of St. Birgitta Chapel, the ruins of the fortress, to meet the choreographer Gun Lund in the Sockerbruket and to sneak into the 100 year old porter vat. We started at the entrance of the famous Michelin rated Sjömagasinet and ended for lunch in the arty and little scruffy Röda Sten Restaurant, popular for their Meatfree Sunday brunches. Always book in advance! Thank you all for not letting us down. As if we were back in time ....watching Foxfire (about a girl gang in the 50’s) in the historical Aftonstjärnan Teater (1893)... walking up the historical cobble streets in Lindholmen, candles outside the theater ….the beginning of a great night out with our own expatgirls gang .... Thanks to all for making this evening a success! As you can read in the new social outings …the movie night will be a recurring monthly event. Upcoming Social outings in November November 26th : After or during the SPA we will have a RAW food lunch which is 130,00 pp. If you are interested we can arrange a class, maybe zumba or power in the gym, which will be 212,00 pp. If this is something for you, please send me and email [email protected]. Awards season is declared officially open as Cate Blanchett becomes an early frontrunner for best actress with this magnificent portrayal of a woman on the edge. A former New York socialite whose life has imploded in the wake of her husband’s imprisonment (Bernie Madoff), Jasmine has been forced to park her Louis Vuitton luggage in the incongruous surroundings of her adoptive sister’s San Francisco apartment, with corrosive results. Attempting to “move on” and make a new start (she is a past master of reinvention), Jasmine is finally out of her depth as she careers between ill-fitting employment, ill-judged social climbing and abysmal interpersonal relations. Meanwhile, writer-director Woody Allen darts back and forth between past and present, interlacing scenes of extravagant privilege with the dawning realities of a midlife meltdown beyond the protective bubble of the Upper East Side. You can park the car at Parking (Plejadgatan, Ceresgatan) or take the bus 16 towards Eketrägatan, (hållplats Sannegårdshamnen) Film starts at 19.30 (103 min) Costs 60 SEK (only cash) Sign up with [email protected] Pre-Christmas Fika in Da Mateo When: Monday 9th December from 8.45 (after school drop off) What: Fika and coffee at Da Mateo Where: Da Mateoda Torrefazione (Rosteriet) Magasinsgatan 17A 031-130516(15) Everyone welcome!!! Please sign up by mail or message before the 6th December with [email protected] -5- SOCIAL PAGE Since the start of term, Gothenburg Lunch Queens have enjoyed great lunch experiences together. So far, we have met 3 times with numbers of approx 15 ladies participating. Come and join us for the next event! River Cafe Wasa Allé This place has fabulous views of the river in both directions and the food (mostly fish) is great. Its lunch menu is a bit more expensive than some and the big difference for me was the range of desserts available - fruit, panna cotta, chocolate fondant, peanut crunch, crumble - not just little biscuits… you can help yourself from the buffet. I like the fact that you can arrive direct on the ferry from the south side of the river. In town, Wasa Allé has a beautiful dining room with gorgeous curtains, flower arrangements and lamps, it is calm and elegant. Lunch here is a bit more pricey than some however the food is all organic and much locally grown. All is presented on the buffet so you can serve yourself to the amount you feel like eating - I particularly like the vegetables and salads here there was a great range. Hos Pelle You can find all of these places on the internet beware that they cost a lot more if you eat there in the evening, but should not disappoint! There will be a broader choice on the menu than at lunch. We shall meet again for lunch on the following dates: Monday 18 November, Friday 6th December, Monday 16th December. Everyone is welcome to join in and you must book a place when I advertise each lunch by emailing me at [email protected]. Restaurants will be announced one by one. If you would like to suggest a place to go then I am pleased to hear from you! Hos Pelle is part of the slow food movement and serves much local produce, we were given a lovely private dining space and ate delicious lamb or fish stew. The welcome is very pleasant and unrushed like the snail on the slow food logo! Catherine Guillou for Gothenburg Lunch Queens. Santa Lucia was a Saint from Sicily and she was supposed to have been blond and blue eyed and very kind. The answers on why the Swedes so fondly maintain this tradition and where we have adapted the tradition from are many but we know for sure that she comes back every year at December 13 to warm up our homes, work, schools, hospitals and hearts with songs, coffee and yellow Lussebullar. Also on Swedish TV from 06:00 in the morning. The Ciné Français film season is well under way at Hagabion; films from French speaking countries are shown every Wednesday, at 6.30pm. The program is available on the Hagabion website, http://www. hagabion.se/evenemang/evenemang/cine-francaishoest-2013. It is very popular so it is a good idea to pre-book tickets via the website http:// www.hagabion.se/ biljetter (collection can be made up until 6pm on the day of the showing). Tickets can also be bought on the day; I have missed out on a couple of occasions due to the film being sold-out though! There is a cafe where many visitors enjoy pre-film food &/or drink; it serves very yummy vegetarian food, wine, beer, soft drinks, coffees and teas. Before each showing, the evening host introduces the film (actor, director, etc short biographie) in both French and Swedish - a welcome apetizer and a rich experience in Swedish vocabulary. Friday December 6th. The 2013 Santa Lucia of Gothenburg will be crowned in a special ceremony at Götaplatsen in December. Look for info in the Newspaper (GP). The season ends December 11th.
